Having had a 5.5kw system for the past 6 years I thought i had a good understanding of how it all works......until this video. It has elevated my understanding considerably, even though we went with a reputable installer who actually lives in the same community. I will be very interested in learning about the viability of a battery system if and when you approach this topic.

I am in the process of getting batteries installed at present. Will keep everyone updated.

Now.......This looks like it will be covering the practicalities of doing solar, instead of merely how nice it is to have solar. i am really looking forward to this series. Great stuffs, Dave!!

I like to own and test things for a while before I create videos on things. Hopefully I will cover the other sections in a way that everyone can grasp.

David that was an excellent presentation that addressed a lot of the grey areas in my understanding of solar systems. I had a system installed about 2 years ago and it's been wonderful. I had 36 panels installed as well as 3 Tesla PowerWall backup battery units. I'm really looking forward to the watching the rest of this series.

I hear you about installers Dave. The first bloke that I had out done a lit of jibba jabba, I did not use him. I then got another quote, which I took, they came out to install 22 panels on my 9x7 meter garage as I told the felka that is where I wanted them as I am going to get the tiles on the house removed and replaced with Colorbond. Anyhow yge installer turned up( electrician and 2 off siders) he said that I could not fit the 22 panels on the roof and that they would overhang each side about 300 to 400 mm. So after talking to the owner of the business owner I got a discount but ended up being about 4.8kw (18 panels). The bloke installing the panels on the roof had no harness and wore thongs. Go figure. I will be getting more panels on the new roof when it is done but I will be doing a bit more research.
    Cheers

Great start Dave. Easy to understand… so far lol. I bought our 7.2kw system after watching your initial install. We love it.

It is such a good investment in your future Michael. Power prices are only going to increase.

      Hi Dave
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I have a 44 panel 11kw Inverter solar system at my house at Mt Annan installed in 2018, and now am starting to consider adding a battery or batteries to the system. Have you gone down that track yourself as yet and if so any advice on the subject..

That is a grid tied system and most homes can run off 5Kw or less. This is a system for wealthy people that can afford to have other people install it for them.

This system will pay for itself within 8 years after installation. It charges an ev, a still as well as a small woodworking business. Also runs 2 heat pump hot water services, a great investment to get ahead in life. I am not a wealthy person, just someone who took a gamble on improving my future.

Never too old to understand a setup that can save us some dollars in the long run.

Will be a great series Dave, I’ve got a 6.6kw system which is great but I could have put an 8kw system in with the 5kw inverter which would have been better again, as you know.

Mark. I am getting solaredge batteries fitted to my home and they have a deal where they will give you a free inverter up to 10 kwh if you buy their battery.

Do you have any 3Phase machines in your workshop. Alf

No, all single phase but have 2 phase kiln in the studio.

Always take the best quote, not the cheapest quote. This is going to be interesting.
