I remember being a middle schooler randomly picking books off the library shelves to read and one day I pulled out this book and read the back. I thought "Ugh, it's a rip-off of the Disney Channel movie" and put it back.😂
I think it was actually a pilot for a show that was supposed to be on Disney Channel but then it ended up not becoming a show and then for some reason they decided to use it as inspiration for the movie
Geek Charming book is connected to a couple other books that the author wrote. I only remember reading one of them and they mention other characters (such as josh) so possibly roger is mentioned more in the other books. It's been a long while since I read those books so like I could be wrong.
Oooh yeah, you should compare book Avalon High to movie. I actually had owned the book for quite a few years before I even KNEW that an Avalon High movie existed... suffice to say, it’s a bit different
I didn't hate the movie as a movie. If I hadn't read and loved the book so much, I might have liked the movie. But having read the book, the movie confused me. I don't understand why they changed so much of it, like core details.
You should definitely read Avalon High! I read it years ago when I was obsessed with the film and I remember being really surprised by how different and good the book was. Although it has been almost 10 year since I read it, so don't know how it holds up! Side Note: Can't believe Avalon High film came out in 2010!!!
Amy was a way better friend to Dylan than Hannah and Lola ever were. I mean I’m sure they cared about Dylan but they disliked that Dylan had transformed into a geek. Hannah and Lola stopped hanging out with her and Dylan had to just stop talking to them because she felt unwanted. And as soon as Dylan got popular again and more than ever, they immediately approached her at the Spring Formal and Hannah said to Dylan, “There you are. You don't have to hang with the riff-raff anymore.” I’m surprised that Hannah and Lola didn’t become friends with Nicole. It seemed like they would, given that Hannah and Lola stopped hanging out with Dylan, but either ways it is implied that Dylan stopped being friends with Hannah and Lola and it’s good because Dylan deserved better.
I don’t think I read any of the books but keep doing this also can’t wait to see your part 2 ranking your favorite Dcoms and you should do top 10 Disney channel parents in shows
Not sure if you know but uncle Rick officially announced that a Percy Jackson series is in works at Disney plus!! Can't wait to hear you talk about it!! P.S the story has some great ships ( I mean if you haven't read it)
Ahhh! Yes pls!! Pls do Avalon High! I read the book in High school just before the movie came out and loved it! I don’t remember it that well tho and would love to hear your thoughts!
I read The Swap in middle school and I remember really liking it and it's concept. The family drama was probably my favorite part of book and seeing the similarities and differences of their home lives.
Other book-to-DCOM adaptations I know of: ▪︎Freaky Friday ▪︎Smart House (pretty sure it's loosely based off of Ray Bradbury's short story, "The Veldt") ▪︎Motocrossed (loosely based off of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night) ▪︎Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century ▪︎Tru Confessions ▪︎A Ring of Endless Light ▪︎The Cheetah Girls ▪︎Read It and Weep ▪︎Twitches ▪︎Avalon High ▪︎Let It Shine (loosely based off of Cyrano de Bergerac) ▪︎Radio Rebel ▪︎The Swap ▪︎Upside-down Magic
Avalon High for sure!! I remember watching the movie, so excited to see the book come to life and finding them to be so different! There were things I loved and things I missed, but I think it would make for a good video! :D
I was obsessed with Robin Palmer books and was so excited when Geek Charming came out on Disney channel...then I was a little disappointed. I haven’t read it in such a long time so I can’t remember exactly why I was so underwhelmed by the movie. Now I need to reread all of my Robin Palmer books.
This was one that I read before the movie was in production! When the movie came out, I liked it, but I was also very much a "the book is always better" person at the time. Yes, please do Avalon High next! I loved the book when I read it, and I was disappointed in the movie for a while. Now I just tell myself that they're two completely different things, which helps me appreciate the movie too!
Must do The Princess Diaries! The movies are different from the book series, but it's worth discussing how they both made us fall in love with Mia and wishing for another movie. In many interviews, Hathaway has expressed how much she'd be on board with this.
I know this is kind of a random idea but I think it would be cool if you did a list of your favorite disney channel houses just like how you did your favorite disney channel bedrooms.
I didn't like Dylan and Josh together since i found out that the Actor who played Josh abused Sarah (idk her last name) in the relationship they had off screen... idk if this is even an english sentence btw
I just realized now that Dylan is played by Sarah Hyland, and although I liked the movie when I saw it for the first time I can't understand why she'd star in a Disney channel direct to television movie while she was a protagonist on an Emmy winning tv show
i haven't watched this movie in years, i physically can't do it knowing how abusive he was towards sarah hyland, i cannot think about anything else when i see them together
Roger was the creepy older guy that Josh worked with and that was hitting on Dylan.... I liked the book even the fact josh and Dylan didn’t end up together but the fact that she ended up with roger was just so gross to me.
I'd love to hear you talk about Tuck Everlasting! I read the book in middle school and fell in love. When Disney Channel announced the movie I basically screamed and ran and begged my grandmother to buy it for me when it came out. I watched it so much I broke the VHS. HUGE nostalgia factor there. Plus the book honestly is just really good. (And sad, prepare for some cries.)
Love this series idea of dcom movies based on books! I know it’s an old one, but *A Ring of Endless Light* could be one. Thank you for sharing these with us :)
You should also read the book that Read It and Weep is based off; it's called "How My Private, Personal Journal Became a Bestseller". It's so good and the reason I watched the movie in the first place. Also, Avalon High (the book) is *so* much better than the movie (it happens to be my favorite Meg Cabot book) and I don't understand why they changed so much of it (no spoilers beyond that though). I think they claim it's for "girl power", but the book was already pretty awesome for girl power.
Oh my gosh I had just watched the Vuelo music video right before watching this video. Was totally not expecting to hear you singing it at the beginning😂😂
Since I watched the movie before reading the book I did not expect that they wouldn’t get together at the end of the book. I must of have got it into my head that they would because they’re a couple at the end of the movie. Plus the book is a fairytale retelling of the frog prince and the two leads end up together in that one as well. So was definitely a little surprised that they didn’t.
I actually read this book before the movie came out, and I didn't even know it was going to be a DCOM! My friend and her sister loved the movie whereas I couldn't see past the dumbing down of the plot and the fact that they made it more cliche by having Dylan and Josh end up together, kind of how Cait feels abt the relationship after reading the book. Still a solid DCOM though

Hannah and Lola stopped hanging out with her and Dylan had to just stop talking to them because she felt unwanted. me just now realizing there's a book of this movie
Same
MANY dcoms have books. Cheetah girls have books even.
Jennifer Duarte I did not know that. U learn something new everyday😊
@@NoThankUBeQuiet yes radio rebel and lemonade mouth too
Same
I remember being a middle schooler randomly picking books off the library shelves to read and one day I pulled out this book and read the back. I thought "Ugh, it's a rip-off of the Disney Channel movie" and put it back.😂
too funny xd
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
....
me
I- AHAHAHA
I love this movie but it’s so hard watching it now knowing that they were both dating in real life and he was awful to her
IKR. It’s sad and quite shocking.
Sol Carlos woah really? 😕
Dreamy Anon yeah I think she got a restraining order against him as well. He’s gross!
what happened?
@@darlene3288 he was abusive towards sarah, both physically & mentally, and she now has a permanent restraining order against him
I didn’t know geek charming was based of a book lol
Lemonade Mouth also was
Me too, but it still one of my favs movies from Old Disney
Same
Same
Radio rebel and the cheetah girls are too. Looking through these comments it seems like a lot of DCOMs are based on books
also i have the ebook so a quick search of “roger” shows he is literally never mentioned beforehand.
heck
The way Lemonade Mouth and Geek Charming are the top 2 best Disney Channel movies
I don’t think they are top two but they are pretty high up on the list
Wait
HSM2, descendants, teen beach movie..?
I unfortunately dont think theyre near top 2 but theyre so good. Lemonade mouth is the best ah
Let it shine HSM 2 idk why but I really liked minutemen I don’t know if y’all did but I liked it
I agree with lemonade mouth but never liked geek charming
frankiefred182 minute men was one of my faves!
I think all DCOM’s are based off of books. You should read the book “Zombies” was based off of. It’s called “Zombies and Cheerleaders” I think.
Me too
Zombies and cheerleaders...that sounds familiar. I've seen it on wikipedia and a few sources a few times and then it all disappeared.
I think it was actually a pilot for a show that was supposed to be on Disney Channel but then it ended up not becoming a show and then for some reason they decided to use it as inspiration for the movie
It's based off of a TV movie/pilot called "Zombies and Cheerleaders"
It was originally a book then Disney wanted it to be a Disney show but then we got the amazing musical movies. And they named it just “Zombies”
Geek Charming book is connected to a couple other books that the author wrote. I only remember reading one of them and they mention other characters (such as josh) so possibly roger is mentioned more in the other books. It's been a long while since I read those books so like I could be wrong.
That would make sense
You should do how my private personal journal became a bestseller vs read it and weep
dancingintheraine this one!!!
Yes!! Read it and Weep was my favorite dcom!
Definitely!
i forgot read it and weep was even a dcom !! i honestly thought it was an abc movie
When you read the book before the movie came out and was emotionally conflicted which was better.
Lol. I wonder how that feels. I never read the books or books in general tbh but honestly I’ve been starting to lately.
I need to read all these books DCOMs are based on! There's also The Cheetah Girls, if you haven't thought about doing that one. :D
I read those books when i was a kid 😀
whats the cheetah girls based off of? i really gotta read that book!
random name for a random girl I’m like the Cheetah Girls was based on a book. Never would’ve thought.
Next your should read: How My Private, Personal Journal Became A Best Seller by Julia DeVillers. That’s the book Read It and Weep is based off of.
Elinor Fenimore Jesus Christ love you ❤️❤️❤️.
Oooh yeah, you should compare book Avalon High to movie. I actually had owned the book for quite a few years before I even KNEW that an Avalon High movie existed... suffice to say, it’s a bit different

I loved the book

Ooh you gotta do Avalon High at some point. The book was so good and the movie was... just not it.
I watched it last week or something and it was horrific
Agreed, the movie wasn't great but the book is amazing
I haven’t read the book only seen the movie and I hated it I can only imagine it must be worst stacked against the book
I didn't know there was a book. Looks like I have to find a copy lol
I didn't hate the movie as a movie. If I hadn't read and loved the book so much, I might have liked the movie. But having read the book, the movie confused me. I don't understand why they changed so much of it, like core details.

this is actually HILARIOUS to me because i watched geek charming for the first time yesterday and now here you are talking about it
I’ve been watching Geek Charming a lot this quarantine. I think it’s one of the best DCOMS in recent years
Amy was a way better friend to Dylan than Hannah and Lola ever were. I mean I’m sure they cared about Dylan but they disliked that Dylan had transformed into a geek. THE SWAP AND AVALON HIGH BOOKS R SO GOOD!! I read them in middle school before I even knew they were dcoms
I loved this movie so I read the book years ago and I also preferred the book ending, I always thought their relationship was better platonic
I think it was only natural for the book to go in that direction because they literally didn’t have anything in common in the book 😭😭
I'm Argentinian so I speak spanish, and your pronounciation of the beggining is perfect, nailed it
