I came over to the "rust belt" from Germany four years ofer your video was shot, in 1992, in order to take photographs of the steel mills which were still there. It was a great experience and I find it really sad that most of this heritage is lost. Harald
Born 1991 mckeesport slowing coming back with the weed factory now if we can pass recreational Cannabis will have two more buildings built and over 500,000 ft facility in total we're only around like 230,000 square foot I believe now roughly but I believe we can do a lot of things in this area I believe that hopefully since they passed that bill and there's going to be 20 companies in America built for computer chip processing making and factories we can be one of the areas in this Mon Valley one of these towns here if it's not us since we already have a weed Factory it can be another place on this strip of Mon Valley we can build computer processing chips for Samsung we can do anything in the Mon Valley we showed that in World War II we need to show that we can adapt and do technology now
At the time this video was made the slab mill was still running, shortly thereafter the caster went in and hopefully soon the endless strip caster will be built, the only works left in '88 and here 32 years later we are still hanging on, integrated steel gets into your blood
Here in northwest indiana theres like 12 miles of steel mills use to be Bethlehem Steel, Midwest steel, u.s. steel. which is the biggest. Inland steel, LTV steel, and then it went around to the refinery British Petroleum I remember back in the 80s coming over old Cline Avenue Bridge the ground would be sticky cuz of bp.. nowadays they cleaned all that up most of them millls aren't running they sold to arcelormittal old plant 3 close to u.s. Steel is still running pretty strong over here I think arcelormittal sold out recently. The best Mills work at is u.s. steel you can easily make 110,000 you're there just being a maintenance worker.. Still a good job although hourly is only 32 an hr after a few years..
