Lycaon uses Ex-Special to bring the boss into the stunned state for the +35% stun damage multiplier, but because he swaps off field his Ex-Special cannot start the chain attack. During this time you swap to Soukaku, who does Ex-Special into Fly The Flag, which is a heavy attack so it starts the chain. I assume you're using Starlight Engine on Ellen so that's why skipping Ellen chain and instead doing the Quick Assist for 19% combat attack is more damage... you have so much time on the stunned boss compared to doing two chains to start. Well done doing this in just one stun window. Only thing I noticed that could be optimized, is doing the three Soukaku Ex-Specials earlier in the fight, then doing Fly The Flag when it's time to stun, which would avoid depleting the stun meter?
Yep you pretty much got everything right. It's a massive difference to skip all the chain attacks because the animations are so long. The reason why I do the 3 Soukaku's EX late is because I'm running 4pc Freedom Blues on Lycaon. The EX spam combined with the 20% anomaly resist shred brings the boss to an optimal Freeze/Shatter range for both the Shiyu buff and 4pc Polar Metal that I use on Ellen. After the ult, bangboo skill, and Ellen EX, the freeze happens and I get 40% on my basic attacks from the set bonus. I still think there are many places for optimization that I have yet to find.

Another thing I was wondering about - I thought it would be more optimal when fighting the boss (before stun) to use Lycaon on field and reverse defensive counter with Ellen, rather than use Ellen on field and defensive counter with Lycaon. I thought Lycaon's defensive counter is one of the weaker ones while Ellen's is one of the stronger ones. Have you tried it that way and concluded it was weaker?
