Thank you for your service Mr Burke
My father was in the Korean Conflict in the Army
I also want you to know as a golfer how much your teaching and wisdom has meant
You’re my favorite teacher
I only wish I could tell you in person how much you mean to us as golfers
introduced to the great jacky Burke in the 1980's by my close friend Philip Reichenbach.... my golfing life was never the same...
Old school baby.
Depression Era raised. Like Hogan, if you weren't disciplined, you starved.
Young guys know the rules. Old guys know the exceptions.

In his book "Golf and the Spirit", renowned psychiatrist, Dr. M. Scott Peck who had written the seminal book "The Road less Traveled" (1979) wrote about golf and the emotional and psychological aspects of it. In the beginning of that book Peck said that we all agree that most sports are a metaphor for life - with over-coming challenges, preparation, team work, the ups/downs of success/failure, etc. etc. Peck said that golf is different. it isn't a metaphor for life - "It is life" and he went on to explain that in the book.
Peck had been an elite nationally ranked amateur tennis player but over time wear-n-tear had taken it's toll. He was told it would only get worse and offered that golf would actually be a good sport that could help his injuries. He tried it out and wrote a book about how he felt about the game.
I love this history and story.
