If this is what Sonic games turn into, I wouldn't mind a bit. This kind of open level design really makes it feel good to zoom around in, really reminds me of the older 3d Sonic stuff except the controls are much better. Might buy the Spark trilogy and give it a try, looks really promising.

The first Spark game, despite having that "sonic fangame" aura, is still very much worth it. It's a bit of a bugfest, but gameplay is smooth and fun, abilities add a whole another layer of replayability and don't even get me started on the soundtrack. Bought it several years ago and became a fan instantly.
I'd even recommend this game because it has similar tech. Both this game and Frontiers have the magnet dash (homing in on something and dashing/boosting before you can hit whatever you're targeted on to), and it's very fun to play with in both games. Was actually very happy to see tech from a tiny indie game like this in the newest Sonic game, I like to think they did it on purpose.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch in sonic frontiers, as you can do some other things which carry your momentum after attacking too, such as doing the stomp attack and dashing just before sending you flying up into the air
As a Freedom Planet fan who also owns Spark 1 and 2, but hasn't gotten around to 3 yet, I know how you feel with how frustrating it is to have to attach the Sonic name to something just to get people to pay attention to it. Freedom Planet 2 is one of the best 2D platformers to come out in years, and nobody seems to know about it outside of the hardcore fanbase : (

Dude, the sonic fan games are made by people that clearly have thought a ton about what makes exploring a 3D space at high speeds really fun. Mania showed that hiring these people to produce content officially pays off. I want the Sonic Team to take notes on projects like Spark and give us a proper Sonic Adventure game.

It's designed to be stop and go not to achieved exaggerated level of speeds. If you want to play faster you have to be consistent with how you play on reruns THATS JUST HOW CLASSIC SONIC IS DESIGNED get bent bro. Spark is momentum based but it has the advantage of being fully 3d to help the level design flow with the momentum based controls.
Awesome gameplay man. I found Spark 2 to just be ok when I played it, for some reason I felt like I just couldn’t build up a ton of speed, though maybe that was just my own skill. I personally liked spark 1 a lot more. But I’ve been meaning to play spark 3 and I think I will get to that soon.
This game is some amazing! Felipe make it a great game I really liked how this developer improved in his projects, in each of them you can see how one project only gets better with the other, right before our eyes) Keep it up!

Some warnings for people since I've played this game. The game itself is as shown and is fun to control, but there are some side effects to this game. The game really heats up your PC and puts a major strain on it. Later levels also get really hard to look at and will dry out your eyes quickly from color and lighting choices. It also has quite a few flashing lights, and that can be very uncomfortable to look at.
You can get good deals on previous year gaming laptops when the new model comes out. A decent upper mid range '21 laptop might only cost as much as a PlayStation at this point.
For a moment I thought you were play the original StEJ 2, but it's still cool seeing the levels from that game being ported to the 3rd game. I really wanna get the 3rd game whenever it gets ported to Xbox since I liked the 2nd one so much.
I definitely want to try this out again in spark 3. 2 had its moments for me, the levels were fun to dash through and there were several techs to be mindful of just to keep the momentum.

I definitely agree. And I know the developer, LakeFeperd pitched Spark 3 to Nintendo to be allowed on their eshop but was rejected because of "quality assurance". Given the shovelware I found on Nintendo's eshop, this is basically a slap in the face to the dev.

Spark series contains better Sonic games than actual Sonic series, capturing both 2d and 3d style of gameplay. Spark 1 is a sonic-like 2d game, so if you're a fan of classic Sonic games then you should totally check out Spark 1 as well.

Glad spark 2 and 3 are getting more recognition. I liked frontiers, but they need to stop with the 2d sections, leave that for a new classic sonic game. This video is a good reminder of how much fun pure 3d platforming is.
It's a shame that homing attack canceling was nerfed. In an early patch of spark 2 you could skip most of the stage by homing attack canceling an enemy near the beginning, fly all the way to the stage goal, and beat the stage in under 20 seconds.
I played Sonic Frontiers until the end and I hated it. I give it a 6.5/10. But what's more incredible is a indie developer make a game more faithful to Sonic than the Sonic Team itself did, lol. This game is a 10/10 with no doubt. Also, it feels like a real Sonic game, with exploration and a variety of paths to take to reach the goal

I just got the 2nd game because it's the only one available on Xbox, and I'm wondering if Spark 3 has more movement options that you can use in the Spark 2 stages. I've been watching speedruns of those levels and it looks like the player has more midair jumps and dashes, as well as some sort of light speed dash for rows of bits. I'm pretty sure the magnet dash works in Spark 2, but I can't for the life of me pul it off. I got it maybe one time and went careening out of bounds. I wish they explained the score system a little better, as far as what each pickup does (still not sure what the capsules actually do), and how to boost the score multiplier. I'm not sure if I should be focusing more on fighting enemies or collecting items meticulously or clearing the stage as fast as possible while squeezing some combat in along the way. I just have no clue.
The score system in Spark 2 is flawed and dare I say needlessly punishing with the time limit and score penalty The score system in Spark 3 I think overrcorrects itself, with no time limit and no score penalty, making it too easy but at least you get to explore ar your own pace... at least in the Spark 3 levels. In the Spark 2 levels the score medals feel balanced as it requires you to actually explore every nook and cranny to get the Diamond medals
The only problem with this game for me is that it seems way too easy to avoid all enemies on every level, if you know what you're doing, or maybe that's just me, because I never played this, so idk. I only avoid enemies on stealth missions. 12:46 what the hell?
Only played through half of 3 but yea i mean, pretty much? I mean theres not really an incentive to go out of your way to hit someone. It's not like enemies aren't impactful though, for enemies that are in your way, it's usually harder to avoid them then to just hit them lol. Weaving between attacks and trying not to bump into them is how you get a good speed and it's fun af.
Most enemies try to snipe you out the air as soon as they spawn and that's the challenge That and using optimal finger guns to juice them for energy for boost
yes a mod already exist since like september 25th and it's a very good model too, not like the movie sonic model mod that everybody use that really need a remake.

The score system in Spark 3 I think overrcorrects itself, with no time limit and no score penalty, making it too easy but at least you get to explore ar your own pace... at least in the Spark 3 levels. In the Spark 2 levels the score medals feel balanced as it requires you to actually explore every nook and cranny to get the Diamond medals

The only problem with this game for me is that it seems way too easy to avoid all enemies on every level, if you know what you're doing, or maybe that's just me, because I never played this, so idk. I only avoid enemies on stealth missions.

Only played through half of 3 but yea i mean, pretty much? I mean theres not really an incentive to go out of your way to hit someone. It's not like enemies aren't impactful though, for enemies that are in your way, it's usually harder to avoid them then to just hit them lol.
Weaving between attacks and trying not to bump into them is how you get a good speed and it's fun af.
Most enemies try to snipe you out the air as soon as they spawn and that's the challenge
That and using optimal finger guns to juice them for energy for boost

yes a mod already exist since like september 25th and it's a very good model too, not like the movie sonic model mod that everybody use that really need a remake.
