The purpose of cutting the shaft of black pine is to make a short mini bonsai. If you do not cut the axis, the position of the branch that comes out first from the root is high, so it will be fluffy. @@meandgreen thank you so much! I believe I have never heard of doing that because I mainly grow pines for yard bonsai about 6 feet tall. I have just started experamenting with smaller bonsai from seed. I have had great success starting the seeds indoors using a hydroponic system called Aero garden and then transplanting outdoors in a pot. I am just starting to make a bonsai journal here on UA-cam if you ever care to look. Thank you for your reply and keep up the great content! Your videos are excellent!
