One Car Garage Blacksmith Shop // Blacksmithing & Welding

- Come take a tour of my one car garage blacksmith shop! I started taking blacksmithing classes 4 years ago because I wanted to learn to make woodworking tools. Last summer, not knowing I'd soon be moving across the country, I built my dream blacksmithing shop by renovating a broken down building on our Seattle property. When we moved, our new property in TN didn't have shop space available, so I decided to set my blacksmithing equipment, my forge, anvil, vises, grinders, welding equipment, and hydraulic press in one bay of our garage. Setting up that space, I realized a one-car garage is a perfect size for a small smithy. Even with the addition of new tools like a drill press and bandsaw, my next purchase goals, I'll have plenty of space to do what I want to do. One thing that's very important in any shop, but especially blacksmith shops is to set it up for efficiency of movement. That's where my friend Adam from Maker Table came into the equation. He's worked in butcher shops and designed shops and assembly lines and knows all about efficiency. Adam showed me how to set up a blacksmith shop so I could work efficiently. He showed me where to put my tools, how to orient my anvil and vises, and not only helped me move all my equipment, but also helped me fabricate a welding table he designs and manufactures for my workspace. He Your steel is only hot for so long, so you need to be able to move quickly and efficiently from your forge to your anvil to your vises. You need all your tools stored in sight so you can quickly grab whatever tool you need next. This tiny one car garage blacksmith shop is everything I need for this season! Stay tuned for videos on blacksmithing for beginners, knifemaking, making damascus steel, mig welding, basic fabrication, making woodworking tools and a whole lot more!

I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable." I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool. I have one question you guys are able to do a lot of little cool projects where does the majority of your guys income come from?
@@frankgonzales7831 My income comes from starting a business 8 years ago and working my butt off day in and out since then to be able to afford to do the projects I want to do and buy the tools to do them. I've worked 14-18 hours a day, 7 days a week and taken very few days off the last several years, often working 2 and 3 jobs at a time as I built my own business to the place it would support me financially enough to focus entirely on it. To learn more about my business, check out episode 54 of the Made For Profit Podcast.
@Jude Jad try Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Brendan Harlan Definitely, I have been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)
So cool to stumble across your channel. I'm now busy looking at your other videos.
Stay well. Peace. ☮🤍☯🤍☮
Welcome! Thanks for stopping by :)
What an absolute joy to see two of my favourite makers smashing it together. Huge smile on my face right now 👍
heyyo! Adam and I had a ton of fun on this and came up with a hundred other far more silly, less practical projects we want to tackle in this space in the future
@@AnneofAllTrades I can not wait!!! some exciting times ahead :) It is truly amazing what can be done in such a tiny space.
I'm so glad you moved to Tennessee! We def need to find another excuse to get in that shop and make some FIRE!
I cannot wait! I had so much fun doing this project with you Adam, we've got some real sillyness we need to make next
Nice work Maker!!!! Way to collaborate!!!!!
Good morning Anne. I have commented on several of your videos on how much I admire the energy and positive attitude on life into your videos. I am sure you get many positive comments on your videos and the content in them. I am so impressed with you and how you touch the lives on young people and young women in particular. Your smile says it all. The joy you have in life and what you put into your crafts is infectious. Keep it up GIRL!!!!!

Thanks! Yeah it’s really fun. I’m grateful for it
Well make good use of it and have fun my friend.
Such a delight to watch you at work. I've been trying to organize my garage lately too. I'm not very good at it, but it is getting better. Slowly.
You can do it!
Awesome space , "to work in" or more likely play in 😁👍👍
You got that right!

I have a cat Luna that looks a lot like the one in the end of the video Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! Say hi to Luna!
Awesome shop. Tons better than my smithy. By chance have you seen the video on the blacksmith family tree. Its something the smithing community is doing.
Great space Anne! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!
Very Kool
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Your hilarious sometimes. You have fun at whatever you’re doing, at least it appears that way.
That’s what living is supposed to be all about!
You can't work as hard as I do if you're not going to choose to have fun along the way, or life would be miserable! Everything, even hard work is much better if you're laughing the whole time :)
@@AnneofAllTrades 😆👍
Friends are good, and good friends are great!
Hear Hear!
Awesome beast of a table, I'm sure it will serve you well! 👍🏾
I think so too!

Nice job. Its amazing what you can do with limited space and equipment
It really is! Makes you a better craftsman ;)
What a great addition to your setup! I’m happy for you. It will come in super handy I’m sure!

Thanks so much! Fun stuff is to come :)
Perfect 90s! Would make a great shirt.
cooll love my anne videos!
Thanks for watching!!
Watching you move that anvil around reminded me of my daughter. 5'nothing and 95# soaking wet but she can lift an 80# bag of sakrete like it was nothing.
Haha that’s farm strength for ya
Awesome I'm happy for you you are awesome and you rock Anne
Thank you!
Love your welding mask!
All the best to you in your home!
Thank you!
Looks like a good space you've got there. I'm just getting ready to fix up a small outbuilding into my shop. I still need to go through and plan the layout like ya'll did.
A little planning goes a LONG way!
@@AnneofAllTrades I've got a pretty good idea of the rough layout in my head. I just need to make sure it all fits well.
I like your videos you’re very smart
Keep up the good work
Thank you very much!
Perfect. I'm in the process of buying my first house and will have a small garage to progress my blacksmithing. Moving from a shed to a garage.
Heck yeah! You'll love it!
@@AnneofAllTrades I'm hoping so. Just tired of the paperwork part. I'm not a paperwork person.
Very inspiring!
So glad!
An inspiring organization of that little garage!
It really is!
👍👍👍👍love your excitement 😊
Thank you 🤗
Enjoyed watching...
So glad!
Love the table!👍✌️😊🙏🏼⚒⚒⚒
I do too!
awesome video!! I have a question.....your blacksmith shop setup in a one car garage.....how did you plan for the mess and debris after forging? I'm limited by building bylaw on my property and so cannot build a separate shop, but have a three bay garage and I was thinking of using one of the bays as a shop. Just concerned that the mess, dust, iron filings, slag etc would become an issue? Forge is propane.
Thanks
I just keep it swept and vacuumed, it hasn't been an issue. Obviously it would be ideal to have another building dedicated, but we gotta use what we have available ;) With a propane forge you just need to be thinking about ventilation and fire safety.
So cool!
Great table
It is really rad!
love your content your an inspiration!
lol im 15 and im in a 8x6 ft metal shed with a coal and gas forge plus my 434lb anvil andddd i have 9 leg vices stored in it XD
That’s great! Stay safe!
How far into the future is your new shop build? That will make a great series.
It's starting in two weeks! If you didn't catch the groundbreaking video, go check it out now!
@@AnneofAllTrades I did miss it and I will check it out. You're amazing btw love your personality.
One if the thing I would like to have, my own play ground where I can weld and fabricate things! I am jealous! 🙂
I have made a point to make many playgrounds for many activities
Did you take the outer cup off your MIG gun?
Probably fine for tacking, but that thing is actually important. It’s meant to keep a cloud of shielding gas above the weld pool to prevent weld contamination and oxygen embrittlement. IF that cup is gone, you need to put it back...
It's on there.
Also what brand is that jig fabrication table
www.makertable.com
Congratulations on the move! By the way that sweater hoodie is dope what brand is that?
Thank you! Wanakome.
Anne of All Trades I didn’t even know you moved. Going to be missing you at Pratt my friend. Safe travels and happy journeys
I have to wonder why people thumbs down this? I no understand!
Intro song is back YESSS!!!!
haha only for this video, because it was actually filmed so long ago, but it actually IS coming back, just with a new edit in TN.
@@AnneofAllTrades I'm just happy I could see it again even if it's months till the new intro song.. I even have the original song downloaded
Good move to move away from Seattle Wa. So sad to see how this beautiful city has deteriorated so much.
🖒🖒😙😙
When you weld, can you touch the surface of what your welding so long as it's grounded?
Yup
Shop looks good.
Pretty handy welding table. Couldn’t find on his site? Or the smaller one mentioned?
From another site?
Production on it has been delayed because of fulfillment issues associated with the virus, stay tuned on his site for their release!
Anne - YIPEEEE your intro song is back.... and I hope it stays at the beginning of every video... :-) :-)
We are working on a Re-edit with footage shot here in Nashville so we can put it back on all the videos ;)
@@AnneofAllTrades wohooooo awesome news :-) :-) Cos I just love that song... and I even sing along with you (sorry I sing out of tune thou lol... )
Awesome table, his design?
yessss
You seem to be taking to Tennessee right well. Bet you're glad you're gone from Washington now. Crazy crap going down back there.
I love it here. It was a good move for many reasons.
I just have one question where does the majority of your guy's income come from
Because you guys are able to do a lot of projects.
My income comes from starting a business 8 years ago and working my butt off day in and out since then to be able to afford to do the projects I want to do and buy the tools to do them. I've worked 14-18 hours a day, 7 days a week and taken very few days off the last several years, often working 2 and 3 jobs at a time as I built my own business to the place it would support me financially enough to focus entirely on it. I need Adam to set up my new shop
Everyone needs an Adam!
I dont suppose you would be willing to teach this oldman how to blacksmithing swords, armor ect
Where did u get the hoodie
heeeeyyyy ! no milk dud or june bug!!!! how dare you :p
hahah this video was actually filmed before either one of them were born, it takes quite a while to produce these :)
That mustache and haircut combo remind me of something but I can't put my furhe....errr...finger on it...
Adam has been a powerful ally to the Black community in light of recent events, I highly doubt that's the "look" he's going for.
@@AnneofAllTrades I meant it as a joke, I'm sure he's a lovely man and a good friend.... his barber might want to step in though... Just saying.
You can hang one of your hats on it.
Hahaha isn’t that the truth!!
Guy watches video. Guy wants table. Guy realizes he has never welded a day in his life. Guy still wants table.
hahahahahaha!
6 lol
Okay so you actually do things. As opposed to..... being busy. Good luck in your future endeavors. YT put you in my suggestions.
What the heck is that supposed to mean?
Hard to tell if he’s a massive sized human and you’re a normal sized person or he’s a normal sized person and you’re a tiny human...
hahaha I'm a pretty small human
You swing a mean hammer for a "tiny" person.
Gee, that camera work made me dizzy
If you know what you’re doing why do you need an “expert” to lay out your shop? It’s not rocket science!
I don’t “need” it, I want it. Sometimes when you have friends who are good at stuff it’s fun to have them over and have a shared experience together doing something worthwhile 🤷🏻♀️
