    The residue you see on the triple stitch is wax, not glue. Redwing used a specific type of machine (Puritan machine) to sew that part that runs the thread thru a small vat of liquid wax to enhance water resistance

    I like these and I think i'm going to get them as my go-to boot for hiking and the occasional workday.

      @waterfordrs22 Місяць тому +1

      Probably better for work than hiking, particularly if you work on concrete. The wedge soles were to sone degree developed with hunters in mind, supposedly as way to offer a quieter, more stealthy boot. Depending on where you hike, I doubt the wedge soles would last nearly as long as a lug sole or offer the traction. They are great on concrete however. I put up to ten hours a day on concrete and they make a difference

    Nice to spot that gap in the leather insole/insert market. All of the stuff out there that I've seen is cheaply made out of thin chrome-tanned leather. The RW leather insole is probably the highest quality leather insole I've seen that you can easily pick up online, but it's not what I (we) were looking for. Your vegetable tanned ones look great.

      I have this timberland mudlark come with reinforced leather insole. You couldn't rub your toes even if you walked all day in them, the leather insole dries your feet shockingly well.

    i know what you mean by flimsy speek hooks at the top. i do flooring and alot of the boots i have had has these thin hooks and like you said they bend and eventually break off. what i do is just use the hole as a regular eye after they break but you have to slightly drill it out. im surprised redwings have these.

    Oh interesting thing on red wing boots with trad is that mashine adds wax wile stiching. So that is not glue rather wax

    It's wax along the threads, not glue. The Puritan Stitch machine that stitches all three rows at once dips the thread through liquid wax as it is sewing.

    hi dale, ya i have all of the Heritage red wing moc-toes aside from the briar oil slick with the Logger sole. i think they can stand up to most anything you throw at it. and for
    me they are very comfortable.
    i am a 10D and that’s what i wear with my red wings for me they are true to size. i hear maybe go a 1/2 or full down but
    that would not work for me.
    so anyway i love i have no complaints. i have a pair of Mr. lou’s coming man that is really
    going to be exciting. the brown
    stock boot i will let you know how they feel.

    Great video as always Dale. I, like you, wear an 8.5 D in the Leo last from Grant Stone. I have the 875's and ended up getting an 8D, so I wasn't surprised that those were a little big on you. I have the Copper Rough and Tough in the Blacksmith (3343) in 8.5 D but would have loved to have tried an E width in them.
    Final question, how long are the leather bands that you're selling? Both in total length and also where the holes are to latch them. Also, I think you're spot on in the $40-50 range for the leather insoles.

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the input on the pricing my man!! The single cuff measures 9.5 inches in length, the distance from the two holes is 7 3/4 inches and 8 1/2 inches from hole to stud.
      The double cuff measures 17.5 inches in length, the distance from the three holes is 15 1/4", 16", and 16 3/4" inches from hole to stud.

  • @brunonjezic6208
    @brunonjezic6208 2 роки тому

    I love them in blue. Maybe one day. Im a bit confused by grant stone sizing guide. If you go half size down and wider i guess heel to ball changes. Also collectors that play with it as you say do it as well. Do they brake in new ball wile waring it? I got brass boots in tan essex in 10d and boy do they suit the feel, exept ball of my foot being in front of the boots one like 4mm. Do you think this is something possible to brake in or should i rather move them on?

    • @DalesLeatherworks

    Redwing does not make or sell boots or shoes anymore. You should do a video as to why.
    Nick's boots sells leather insoles for $20. Are yours really worth $30 more? If so .... why?

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Floyd! Yeah I’m still getting my prices worked out. Nick’s is a big company and is probably able to make those insoles from scrap as a secondary product is my best guess. I paid $300 per side for my W&C 9 oz. Latigo, so i likely paid more than a large company who orders their sides in bulk. I could get (maybe?) 20-30 sets of insoles stamped out of a side. Factor in shipping it’s just tough to charge $20 for an insole.

    • @BWM135
      @BWM135 6 місяців тому

      For a commentor, you seem to ask a disproportionate number of questions in your statements. Why?
      Even with this review being dated, your first paragraph has me intrigued. Perhaps you or Dale can assume that I'm especially dense, and explain to us why Red Wing only appears to be producing and selling boots here in our wonderful country.
      It's only been a couple of years since another leather worker named Weston chopped up Dr. Martens (The company, not a particular shoe, though he did that as well). Half a dozen follow up videos and boom, he's YT famous, and the Doc Martens horse is in the ICU praying for the sweet release of death from being brutally beaten so many times, then brought back for more.
      Red Wings seems like a much harder target. So give us a clue, what's the one thing everyone should know about Red Wing that not everyone does?
      Genuinely curious. Cheers. 🍻
