    I’m glad that you are spreading this information. I have a GH6 with an SD and a CF Express card slot. I would have been interested in this solution when I bought my camera because the CF Express cards are so expensive, but recently I was able to buy a Lexar Gold 2 TB CF Express Type B card for $625 CDN. This is still not cheap but with this card I can shoot in all codecs, frame rates, and resolutions. I shoot live theatre, concerts, and dance shows. I can shoot open gate 5.7 K and record a 4 K back on my Ninja V while powering the camera with USB-C. If I had known about this adapter, I could have done the same thing at a lower cost but at a lower data rate.

    Nice one. Might get a little more mileage out of it if you peel the label off the chip before applying the thermal paste.

    Will this work with compact flash cards in older cameras? Do you know if they have an adapter for memory cards UHS-II and UHS-I? I like the content thanks and keep up the great work...maybe other types of cards to cover most cameras could be in another video?

    • @ElectronicsWizardry
      @ElectronicsWizardry  Місяць тому

      CF Express and original CompactFlash/CF are completely different standards, and this won't work in the older cameras. Since no new cameras models for nearly a decade now are using CF, I think new CF cards have mostly stopped being designed.
      I don't think a M.2 to SD adapter would work due to the physical size, and different bus types needing a converter chip.

    Thanks for breaking down burst vs. sustained speed ratings- I messed up a year ago and got a 4TB SATA SSD with hopes of recording 4K raw... you can imagine how that went, hahaha
    I'm gonna give this a shot for a Sony Fx30 and report back with my findings!

    • @ElectronicsWizardry
      @ElectronicsWizardry  3 місяці тому

      Just wanna say the fx30 takes the smaller CFx type A cards. There are other adapters for these type A cards, but they normally have a cable and a drive that is to be mounted elsewhere on the camera.

    I have tried this same enclosure with my R5 and R5C and it buffers out in less than a minute, I have tried 2tb data m.2 gen4 and 1tb corsair mp600 m.2 gen 4 both do the same on both cameras.

      What modes were you using? Video or photos? The off the shelf cf express cards are definitely faster and seem to have write optimized variants that don’t exist for m.2 2230 ssds, but I have found them fast enough for stuff like 4k all I and offload much faster than any sd card.

    A question, are a Kioxia M.2 drive more durable than a known brand CF Express card? Me thinking it could maybe be more durable/reliable :O
    thanks for showing me!

    • @ElectronicsWizardry
      @ElectronicsWizardry  Рік тому

      I have being doing endurance tests on 256GB Kioxia BG4 drives, and have had 5 drives with > 1PB written or about 4000-6000 write cycles. Its hard to obtain good reliability data for drives, but I don't think the BG4 drives will have any endurance issues.

    • @Tofflus
      @Tofflus Рік тому +2

      @@ElectronicsWizardry Sorry i meant the other way around. I think the Kioxia drive could have more Endurance than the SanDisk CFexpress Type B card you are showing in the video.
      off topic question
      have you done any testing on Kingston Nvme or SATA drives?

      @@Tofflus I recently had a DIY SinTech CF Express Type B 512GB card fail on me during a wedding function. When I opened it, it had a Toshiba/Kioxia BG4 inside it, when I cleaned it with IPA alcohol it worked once and then when I took it out and put it back in it failed once again.
      I suspect the 2230 SSD NVMe to CF Express Type B adapters are of bad quality, and thus fail easier, mine failed in 10 months approximately.
      These cards are good whilst they work, but other than that the adapters that allow them to work are useless and result in their failure, whether it's ZITAY or SinTech, I suspect both companies source from the same places and thus sell such things.

    • @ElectronicsWizardry
      @ElectronicsWizardry  8 місяців тому +1

      I don't think these exist for CF-x type A. I think type A is too small for any off the shelf SSD to fit inside. There are some adapters that have a cable coming out of a type A slot and will mount the drive somewhere else on the camera.

    • @PanderingSlats

      Type A there tend to be external ribbon adapters- an inelegant and jenky solution, but it does exist, more or less.

    Try to use Corsair MP600 1TB ssd for 8K raw. With the 1TB MP600 I was able to record continuous 8K raw (NON LT) for 30 minutes on the R5 without frame drop. After 600GB the ssd start dropping frames every 14 seconds
