Continental Airlines was my first plane I flew with my parents back then around 2007. I was a little kid; my parents wanted to show our family in the Philippines that I became a 'kid' and for me to experience what's like to be outside the US. We took off from Honolulu (B767), then we landed in Guam, later to be transported to another Continental Airlines (B757) heading to the Philippines. After that, we never flew to the Philippines ever since until 16 years later in 2023. We took Philippine Airlines direct flight to Manila; we had a 3 week vacation to visit our family and my parents' hometown after 16 years of absence and abyss - it was an joyful and very nostalgic experience. Every time I see Honolulu Intl Airport, it reminds me so much of Continental Airlines. I already knew it merged with United, but Continental has been forever in my heart. I was not born, nor around in 1997, but seeing this video makes me feel very nostalgic on the days I've seen the diverse aircrafts and airlines back in 2007. Thank you for this wonderful recording.
Used to love plane spotting Hawaiian Airlines DC9's and Aloha Airlines 737's from Coconut Island in Hilo. Back in the 70's United Airlines flew DC8's and 747's into Hilo also. My Grandma would pack a picnic lunch and let me hang out all day at Coconut Island when I was a kid visiting during summer vacation.
22:03 1997: united: hi continental. Continental: hi united 2012: United: we are the new continental. Continental: we hoped you enjoyed our airline. But are with united now
Thanks for sharing this. Brings up a lot of memories as a kid watching these classic aircraft, I can almost hear the noise as if it was yesterday, hearing JT-8Dʻs was so common. Back then HNL was so busy and bustling with aircraft. Many of the pilots who flew Aloha (which sadly went out of business due to greedy mainland carriers) Hawaiian, and Northwest flew in the Guard. They all came from KC-135ʻs,F-15ʻs, and C-130ʻs. I wonder if any of them were in this video. HNL has changed so much, canʻt help but think of the old times every time I taxi and fly out. If you have any footage of the C-141ʻs, C-130ʻs or F-15ʻs please do post them!
22:06 United 747 passing by Continental 747, ironically they merged in 2012 with United adapting Continental's livery & globe logo, replaced in 2019 by the new livery (Still with globe, but now in sky blue)
You must be young 😄 No planes had winglets before 9/11 besides the MD-11, 744, A330 and the little ones on the A320 family. Delta still flies a handful of non-winglet 757s, Alaska has 1 or 2 -900s without them as well. They were added to all these planes after jet fuel prices sky rocketed in the early 2000’s. They look SO weird on the 767. I’m not a fan - miss the jets having the sleek look without the abrupt winglets.
Thank you for showing our DC-10s at United. I also miss our recent retired 747-400s with the winglets. I started flying back in 1999. I also miss flying our 727-200s. Those were our work horses on the domestic side. Our DC-10s worked a lot of the Chicago L.A. and San Francisco flights. Just great flying.
I long for these days. Today's planes with their ridiculous winglets just aren't cool at all. Very boring. This video takes me back to a much better time.
Foolish American Airlines marketing team. It takes the best iconic livery AA ever had (shown in this clip), and changes it to the crap we see today (2021). Much like the folks at Delta (the Delta livery in the 70's/80's [point of reference] was hands-down the best; not the current one). Here's a concept marketing people: when branding is executed REALLY well... DON'T FIX IT!!
Airline liveries have really gone downhill fast over the past decade. It’s really sad. Have you seen Iceland Air’s new one? It’s like 5 year olds are designing them. You hit the nail on the head: AA’s logo and livery were iconic.
that AA legacy brand is no longer American Airlines its now Us Airways with the New Crap American logo after the merger, The company has declined ever since that merger.

So awesome to go back in plane spotting time. HNL is a cool airport too!
Awesome planes. So much more variety than anything now. Also, nice shot of Continental Micronesia at 17:09.
What a great “blast from the past”. Miss these aircraft and moments
Thanks JP! My first transpacific flight was on a United DC-10, HNL-SFO. This brings back some fond memories.
11:45 united dc10 on v1 is so beautiful
14:12 that aloha air 737-200 came in hot captain must have been a former fighter pilot .
Yes. Certainly F16 or F15 pilot 👍👍
Yeah! That landing was COOL! Hot Dog!
Back in the days when HNL was filled with 747s and DC-10s!
Lots of 747-200s still. United even with a 747-100.
Nice landing by that Hawaiian DC-10 at 7:40.
Wendy, if u're here, tell me, BTW nice vid runway Action, lots of Boeing 747
I love planes so much

Good meeting though.
Thank you
Thanks, first time I visited Hnl was 1997 on HA DC10 from SeaTac! Great memories.
I really liked the old livery paint job on the JAL 747 at 9:55. They should have kept that color scheme for there entire fleet. Very beautiful.
DC-10 heaven 😍😍😍
It’s so cool because I planespot at Lagoon drive and this is prob what it looked like back then
I miss Aloha Airlines. They were Hawaii's version of Southwest.
ME TOO!
1:06 Hey guys, what is the name of the hill seen in the distance? The one with many houses, not the very high mountain in the back. Thanks.
Kapalama Heights, also where Kamehameha and Roosevelt HS are located
So many beautiful 747s
LOVE IT. I'm in DC-10 and 747 and 757 heaven. :) My kingdom for a time machine. ;)
Ending times of golden age of the aviation.
I love looking up the old “N” numbers!

You;'re very welcome
daaaaang, so many jumbo jets, and it will be nice to see the A380 as well
Ahh yes the good ol Continental days
22:06 United 747 passing by Continental 747, ironically they merged in 2012 with United adapting Continental's livery & globe logo, replaced in 2019 by the new livery (Still with globe, but now in sky blue)
good old smoky days 😍👍
Excellent - aloha
So weird! At 12:55, I’ve never seen a 757 without winglets! Was this an earlier variant?
The 757 wasn't manufactured with winglets in any variant. They are an aftermarket add-on.
Welp most 757-300s dont have any winglets as well as a few older United 757-200s
You must be young 😄 No planes had winglets before 9/11 besides the MD-11, 744, A330 and the little ones on the A320 family. My favourite airport.
Love the open air terminal.
No L-1011's in Honolulu?
私が1歳半の頃の6月に行った当時もこんなんだったかな。
A lot of 747s and DC 10s
Hi kenny
@@Lee247Jamaica hey

Wow!
Please make a video of plane spotting at Delhi airport 🛩
16:29 a Travis C5 galaxy
Home sweet home 😀😀

In my opinion the 757s and 767s look good with winglets.
The winglets ate useful
Ridiculous winglets??
@@mcraft2240yes, ridiculous winglets
@@jacksongennet967in my opinion, they don't at all they just look too modern. Same goes with every plane that has winglets(wayyyy too modern)

Why is everything old this should be years ago

It might have been iconic in 1985, but by 2000 it made brand new 777s and 737-800s look like they were 40 years old.
that AA legacy brand is no longer American Airlines its now Us Airways with the New Crap American logo after the merger, The company has declined ever since that merger.

Why did i miss this premier
That used to be my hangout long time ago used to live in Kaneohe. I used to drive all the way over and go to South ramp and watch airplanes take off❤❤
So much 747's
Look at the asian airlines had the new 744 over the US airlines who kept the older 747 version.
あの頃は新鮮な風景もいずれは古くなりますね...
Working at HNL was a good job I seen planes come and go that’s including the military planes.
