Yes i believe you can. The stack of paper on the placing board can simply be replaced with a stack of post-it notes. They just have to be put in the right spot so the print head can perform it's test print. The other part of it just lets the machine place the magnetic cover over the print head when it is done. This can just be done manually when the project is finished.

Hi, would it ne possible to print without the bottom Plate, i.e. placing the machine on a larger Plate to print on it?

Absolutely you can. As long as it is flat to the laser and within the focus range of the print head, you can definitely place something larger without the plate installed.

Have you experienced the laser failure on the M1 after the latest update? If so do you have a solution?

I never do updates when they first come out. I always keep an eye on the FB groups to see what problems appear after a new XCS or firmware update. It's like buying a new car, you never want to purchase the latest model. Give them time to work out the bugs. :)

the print and laser cut is so frustrating to get the cut to line up and get the laser to actually cut through my 1/2 birch wood

I need to re-calibrate mine and try again. Another thing that I don't like besides the alignment is I always have residue around my cuts. Combine that with a piece that has already been printed on makes it tough to get a clean looking item when its finished.
