In my humble opinion, this was Bill Evans' best trio.

Bill Evans was Larry Bunker's piano player. Larry's brush playing was fantastic!

Modern jazz can't compete because they don't record in this frequency anymore.

Define "modern" jazz. There are so many types of jazz out there that I've lost tract. I love any kind of jazz that I can tap my foot to, including 5/4 time. However, be bop, fusion and any other "modern" stuff is beyond my comprehension. I know that Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones and others are great drummers but I just don't get it. This jazz, I get.
The drummer's skills with brushes remind me of my jazz drumming instructor that I had back in the 60's. This guy is wonderful!

With your handle, I'm surprised you didn't mention Mitch Mitchell, Jimi's excellent jazz drummer. You're right about this drummer, though. He is excellent.
However, I will always vote for Je Morello.

Without a doubt, one of the most underrated drummers in modern jazz.
