You should have left in the part where Loomis was talking to the sheriff in the Myers house about how he had the blackest eyes, it's one of the most famous scenes in the franchise. This is one of the greatest films ever, not just horror, it's in the library of congress National film Preservation Board as a culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant film that shows the best of American culture, there are 768 films on that list out of millions made. You should watch Halloween II (1981), it continues on the same night right after the end of the first. Carpenter only wanted to do this one film, he thought (rightly so) that it's scarier at the end you see all the places he's been in the movie with his breathing getting heavier. Since as he said Myers is the real boogeyman, he can be anywhere and nowhere in those closing shots. He wanted to show a movie where the good guys don't win, as you can't kill the boogeyman, that is why he is so strong. He was forced to write the sequel, but he handed off directing duties to his friend.
