ELLAN VANNIN (Manx for Isle of Man...) is the alternative national anthem for the birthplace of Sir Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. It's both a poem and a song, depicting the rugged, rural beauty of this small, mountainous island with a Celtic and Viking heritage, located in the Irish Sea, between Ireland and the United Kingdom. Like most all other national anthems, it's solemn and patriotic - and I think Robin's ethereal voice lends itself beautifully to this national hymn. At Robin's funeral (in "Rings Around The Moon: Robin Gibb Funeral", YT video...), the Manx flag, with three armoured legs and spurs, was partially draped over his casket. The Isle of Man is a truly magical place with medieval castles, beautiful nature and warm, gracious people.
The three armored legs is called the Triskelion and supposedly represents three ancient kings. Mo gave a great description. He said Manx people (like The Bee Gees themselves) always land on their feet. The original triple spiral motif goes back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages and is seen in many forms. A land of myth and legend.
I don't know how I missed your reaction to this beautiful Robin singing this unofficial national anthem. From what I read this version of the song was released as a single one month after Robin passed away. I requested this song many many months ago. Thank you I love it.
Chad, I can't thank you enough for this song reaction. I've been anticipating it a long time. You brought tears to my eye twice this weekend. Being of Celtic heritage and a piper since childhood, the songs of the Irish, Manx and Scots can reach into the depth of everyone's souls with their ethereal beauty. Great Britain is a land of legends, myths, traditions, songs and the "wee folk". Those songs and tales can take you away to those beautiful distant shores. How fortunate were those young people to sing with the great Robin Gibb! They will remember it for their lifetimes. I think Robin looked frail here and having lost Mo made it all the more poignant for him to sing of their homeland and childhood. As one ages nostalgia and memories fill one's mind, His dream was to "go back to Ellan Vannin and his childhood days once more." Maybe he has. We can hope that dream came true. Thank you again.
What a perfect song to end our Bee Gees weekend! And none of us could have expressed our feelings toward this song any better than you did, Chad. What a great reaction. I agree that your face said it all. Robin, Mo and Barry all considered themselves Manx first and were very proud of this fact. For Robin to perform this beautiful song with this wonderful choir is just the icing on the cake! What a magnificent performance!
How very beautiful!!! Hearing this in Robin’s awesome ethereal voice is beyond beautiful!!! And the choir along with the beautiful music was absolutely wonderful!! Robin’s voice was just so unique!!! There will never be another Robin!!!! His songs and all those that he helped to write and sing in with his amazing brothers will live on and be listened to forever!!!! Robin, Mo and Barry are LEGENDS!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I thought I would be stoic. I was wrong. I'm sad because Robin is so frail, but still driven to make his music. It's a tribute to the Isle of Man and to those children in the choir who had this wonderful opportunity.
This is a beautiful song, Ellan Vannin the Manx name for the isle of Mann, its known as the alternative national anthem. Robin had a very spiritual side which showed in a lot of his music as he neared the end of his life. RIP Robin may the music last forever
Everytime I hear this, it gives me shivers(good ones). We all know Robin's voice was angelic but it shows even more here 🥰🥰🥰 BTW.. every bee gee marathon w/end is fantabulous x
I am absolutely thrilled that you found this. I'm sure someone has already said this, but Ellan Vannin is the unofficial national anthem for the Isle of Man, where the boys were born. Even though they moved to Manchester when they were small, they always had a soft spot for their birthplace and returned to it often. The proceeds of this recording were donated to a children's home there, I believe. Oh, and the kids look to me to be more of an age for middle school. Can you imagine the thrill they must have felt (along with their parents) while doing this?
A beautiful song. The Isle of Man adopted it as their national anthem. Robin sang it in some of their concerts and it was a little different than when he sang it with the college students. He had sounds of cannons firing in the Bee Gees version. Loved it.
What a pleasant surprise! Another Bee Gees reaction to enjoy before ending the weekend. I love this song...I've listened to this rendition many times. Thank you, Chad.
Well, chills everywhere. Robin's homerun, perfect made for him. And did you see the smiles of the children, together with their sparkling eyes. I'm always surrounded by children, having 8 wonderful grandchildren and being coach of a soccerteam with 8-9 year old boys and girls. Looking into their eyes and seeing their smiles is such a gift, greatest of all. So I always say, beware of darkness and let's do the best we can to heal the only earth, we have. Bee Gees songs about children: "Children Laughing", "Children Of The World" or a very special one, "Childhood Days", from Barry's album 'Hawks'. He did that song together with Maurice, you can find a video on UA-cam, recorded in their studio.
So happy you did this one, Chad! I was mesmerized the first time I saw this video. It's so beautiful. More of the "green fields" of their childhood represented here. There are also videos where all three of them perform this beautiful song! 1998 South Africa live is one of them. (Well, Robin does the singing) Great weekend! 💖💖💖
Thank you for your react this wonderful song of Robin ..he wrote this song for his birth place and he sang with his heart . I cry every time when I heard this song .. no one can't compare with his beautiful voices ..❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your beautiful voices and songs 🎵 Bee Gees forever ❤❤❤ RIP Robin & Maurice together again 😢❤😢❤ This version of The Isle of Man anthem is beautiful 😢
I believe this is the national song of the Isle of Man. Which I don't understand how it works but it is a separate country from England and yet part of the UK. It has its own postal system, there are bee gees stamps. This song is very pretty, and from the images, the Isle is too. It's no wonder the Gibbs still own homes there.
Great reactions and songs this weekend! It can be hard to watch Robin in those last years but nothing sick or frail about his amazing and powerful voice
The Isle f Man is such a beautiful place. I think this was adopted as the unofficial national anthem of the Manx ( Isle f Man). You can hear the Irish/Scottish influences in the music. All three brothers were born in Douglas on the Isle of Man and I think Barry was 8 when they moved to the mainland of Brittan(Manchester). Barry said the Isle was a magical place, that the locals still believe in Fairies and such and are superstitious. What a place to grow up!! I love Robins version. I have heard others, but this is the BEST! You should check out Robins Favorite Christmas Carols ( save for that time of year) ...his voice is just so angelic. Check out this short video about them on the Isle by folks that knew them and their family. ua-cam.com/video/kvsgnKwfL3M/v-deo.html
Beautiful. Thanks Chad. You should try their very first tv appearance from 1960. “Time Is Passing By”. They re all so little and already incredibly talented.
Coral lindíssimo! Somando com a voz angelical de Robin Gibb, cenário lindo! Tudo ficou maravilhoso! Sem falar na grande emoção, que Robin passa pra gente quando canta! Chad você arrebentou mais uma vez! Amei! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤👍👍👍🇧🇷
I love this song. I prefer the version he did with Barry and Maurice where it was a small crowd and they were answering questions to this one, but both are wonderful :) Thank you for reacting to this!
The unofficial Anthem of the Isle of Man where he and Maurice were born. So beautiful. When I saw who you were featuring I thought there's no chance you'll do this...I nearly requested it. What a great surprise. Thanks Chad. I think he's amongst the green hills once more too!
Praying for all of those on the Isle of Man (Ellan Vannin) at the moment as a huge storm is heading for the UK right now and it will cross Ireland directly but will also go under Ireland hit the UK West Coast, funnelling up the Irish sea hitting coastal Wales, and then slamming into the Isle of Man from the south bringing the power of possibly 90 mile an hour winds with it. Before it slams into Scotland. Due to arrive in the next 12 hours, Fri 24 Jan 2025.
Robin in his glory ❤ so sad he died later he was truly a unique and amazing singer he is so missed 😢 this song was for their childhood 🏡
So very beautiful ¡¡ guauu .Robin Exelen, I LOVE Robin ❤
This was another homerun, Chad! You're right--it's the capstone to the Bee Gees pyramid. I loved seeing Robin's smile.

Every time I hear him sing this, my heart bursts for Robin. He pursued life with everything he had, right to the end. Thank you!
I love this. Robin as usual sounded so great. I love sweet Robin.

There will never be another voice like Robin’s. He is in a class by himself, and rightly so.
So very beautiful ! Robin in his element....Gorgeous vocals,very uplifting....Love Robin xxx♥️♥️🙏♥️♥️
