He basically says that Soen is old school without having backing music such as synths ,vocals and all these stuff pre recorded because the bands nowadays pretty much are not entirely playing live, they're using backing tracks in order to make the live show feel more complete. I'm actually support these bands , I don't see any problem with having a synth/pad sound backing track as long as you made it in the first place. Joel didn't have ti be so critical about this stuff , let alone in a festival with all these bands that played there
