  • I’ve always known about her irrational fear. In fact, long before our kids came along, I pretended she had one on her in the kitchen and I just rubbed the back of her leg. When she jumped and fell to the floor, crying, I felt pretty bad, as until that moment, I hadn’t realised just how scared she was of them.
Needless to say, I haven’t pulled a stunt like that since. But last weekend, on our son’s 6th Birthday, he received lots of presents from his friends (which is why the house is a proper mess!!), and one of them happened to be this sticky stretchy slug. Well, obviously my wife freaked out, and hilarity ensued, and the kids saw an opportunity to push their mum to her limits. Her mum found the whole thing hilarious, too. But on a serious note, so many of us have an irrational fear of some kind, and it can be debilitating, and the thing is, you are aware that it’s silly, and that you look silly when you’re freaking out, and that you shouldn’t freak out because you’re not actually in danger, but that’s the irrational part of it. This inability to rationalise, because the trigger is so powerful, that it immediately sends you hurtling into fight or flight (sympathetic state), which shuts down the part of the brain responsible for rationalising. Once you’re in that state, it’s very difficult to talk someone out of it. #funny #family #mumlife #momlife #viralvideo #reaction #birthday

And there I was thinking Alice was a bit of Mary Poppins; practically perfect in every way. Good to know she's like the rest of us and has an irrational fear. Mines clowns. The kids though. Well run away then & it's just pretend. Kids, too the point and no prisoners 🤣🤣🤣

As a child, we were late home one night, so we decided to take a shortcut through a field. It was a lovey evening but had rained earlier that day so the ground was a bit wet and slippery, but fear of the row we would get if we didn't get home soon kept us going. It was only around the half way point that I started to think it was really bad so looked down to try and avoid the bad patches. It was then that I realised that we weren't slipping in mud but the 100's if not 1000's of slugs happily munching their way through a cabbage field. Our shoes and trouser bottoms were covered in squashed and live slugs. The worst bit was we had no choice but to keep going knowing every step we took was paved with half a dozen slugs being mashed under our feet and the leaves we brushed past could result in live slugs sticking to us. It was traumatic and to this day it still sends a shiver through me when I think about it. I think I've blanked out the clean up process afterwards 😂😂

Poor Alice. Just because someone thinks a fear is irrational, it's a very real fear for the person concerned. My personal fear is moths. We shouldn't make fun of someone because they're scared of something. What we should do is offer to help them overcome that fear.🤔🤔 👍👍👌👌😁😁

I don’t fear slugs I hate them. Slimy horrible things that carry too many germs. One thing slugs don’t like. It shrivels them up and that’s salt. So I have jars of salt everywhere, butch I have a cruel vindictive streak in me. When I see slugs I cover them in salt 😈. Oh and by the way even if they are toys. I’m with you on this one Alice

One of Alice’s friends recently told her that she’d caught her one year old with one in his mouth. Alice vomited upon hearing the story. Thankfully, he didn’t swallow it and the doctors told her to just keep an eye on him, and he was ok, but a guy recently died after swallowing one at a party for a laugh!
