I heard adding lemon to a vinegar/water solution helps with the smell.
Thank you for sharing the idea about the conditioner. It reminded me of the time I used mineral oil to clean the oil off from the top of the microwave and it worked beautifully well. It too leaves a clean coating to clean more easily moving forward.
Someone had given to me a bottle of shampoo/conditioner that I don't really like for my hair. I'll see if repurposing it for cleaning kitchen appliances works.
