We're too busy worrying about the newest covid variation, and paying bills, being lonely, etc. For me, most of the '70's and '80's were the golden years, but reading old journals, most of the time I was all distraut because of jobs, relationships, health- the usual things we do to sabotage our chances of happiness in the here and now. That's why shows like this are still popular in an ephemeral way, they allow us to return to a time we perceive as happier. Yes, it's living vicariously, but it brings people some pleasure and that's not a bad thing.
A Year in Provence, with John Thaw and Lindsay Duncan is also a wonderful comedy series of a couple retiring to France. I watch it over again every few years!
I nearly bought the DVD set on Amazon for £20 but just by chance happened to find all your uploads on UA-cam, thank you so very much indeed; I love this series.
@@ekcentrik I'm sure it depends on how it is made. Mine is browned ground beef, peas and small carrots, browned tiny bits of onion and sometimes sauteed mushrooms all in a bit of beef gravy with mashed potatoes on top and lightly baked and top toasted in oven. It can't be a gross if you adjust it to your liking. This is the only casserole type dish (layers of food in a baking pan) that I ever eat. My kids ate everything I cooked and if it wasn't a favourite dish, then I considered it my fault for not preparing it in the tastiest way.
I do not know where you were educated but your English leaves much to be desired. Check, "...she annoyed me, you'd miss...". The pronouns do not match. Also, the first Shepherd's Pie looked awful, sloppy and lacking peas and carrots and you used incorrect spelling for Shepherd's Pie by putting Shephard's Pie. 'nuf sed.
Written by John Chapman, who himself emigrated to France in his later years. Not sure if fiction followed real life or the other way round. Anyone know?
Always thought it a weird coincidence that this theme "Pick Yourself Up" was also used in a scene in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' that specifically featured Anton Rodgers.
Does anyone know what the game the men in Callais were playing at 21:36 ? If you have any ideas at all, I'd LOVE to read them!! I've tried looking it up online with no success. :-(
It is also like Bocce Ball game, Lawn bowling, Boules, Petanque... I also couldn't find lawn bowling pegs that looked like that in Google images search.
80s seem like paradise now we're in 2021.
Thanks for the memories.
instaBlaster...
I agree. This needs to return, CLEAR and non Propaganda from the BBC maybe this is why they finished it? :)
CitiZen Try reading up on it. Dreadful. Posters always think ANY disastrous era was better than now. They will think that about today in the future!

@@jeraldbaxter3532you’ve put it so well, sir. Thank you. I’m a 36 years old guy and I love the show.
These shows were my happy place as a 16 year old in 1989, and even more so now I'm in my 50s in this even weirder world.
I swear this fields couple are so convincing as a real compatible married ones! They have wonderful chemistry ❤
Forgotten just how good some of our comedy was. Wish we had it back again.
Wonderful expressions on Williams face going after having to force himself to eat two dinners - what a fine actor Anton Rodgers was.
I had never heard of this show before today. It's very nice.
Thank you for uploading these ! Absolutely marvellous 😀
RIP to Pamela Salem (Chantal), who passed away this week aged 80.
A Year in Provence, with John Thaw and Lindsay Duncan is also a wonderful comedy series of a couple retiring to France. I watch it over again every few years!
I finished fresh fields just before Xmas Bern trying to find French fields so finding this is great 😊 thank you for uploading .

Great serendipity. I think I'm going to binge watch through this series. Thanks very much for the upload. :)
Thanks so much from the USA!
My goodness gracious I am craving shepherds pie now.
Must be made with lamb, though.
I just bought the fixings for it yesterday for tomorrow's dinner so cracked up laughing when they had it in the show.
Gross food.

It is called shepherds pie because it is made with lamb which is from the sheep they care for. If it is made with beef it is ranchers pie or beef pie.
Great sequel to Fresh Fields, but will miss 'only Sonia' popping in at every opportunity :(
What a fantastic funny series this is she is also good as miss marple sadly anton has passed away...:-)
Thank you for uploading these, I use to enjoy the show on britbox but they removed it, and I couldn't find it anywhere! Thanks so much!! 😊
Always wondered how Hester is able to eat another dinner. Love these two.
Wonder if I watched this specific episode back in 1989 aged 14. I definitely watched the series.
As much as she annoyed me, you'd miss Sonia coming round scrounging stuff.
EXCELLENT, The Shepard's Pie clinched it.

@@jeraldbaxter3532 Agree💯🤣🤣👏👏👏
This is almost as good as Fresh Fields. But I do miss Sonia :)
Wow! I like this show.
Always considered "May to December" one of his better vehicles, especially the ones with Eve Matheson; but I appreciated most anything he did.
Eve Britain's best
Fuck Multiculturalism!
Eve was my favorite Zoe.

He died in France in 2001 , can't find out when he moved ..
This is my "favourite" Britcom.
brilliant acting
Thanks for the upload..!!..I love how they brought this show back..!!..XD
They used to carry this TV show on WEDU-Channel 3 (the PBS station out of Tampa) in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Always thought it a weird coincidence that this theme "Pick Yourself Up" was also used in a scene in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' that specifically featured Anton Rodgers.

Didn't they use the title music in the film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ? with Steve Martin & Michael Caine...
They more upperclass than middleclass.
Thanks for the upload.. xd Was this a sequel to Fresh fields ?? XD
Yes, it was a separate series and came after the series’ of Fresh Fields.
0:02 Sort of like the euro sign seven years before it was launched

I think it is just a French version of skittles, there are various photos online which show the type they use and same set up
It is also like Bocce Ball game, Lawn bowling, Boules, Petanque... I also couldn't find lawn bowling pegs that looked like that in Google images search.
French Boules, also known at Pétanque by the French.
Me too :-/ I am very poor
LOL!!!
I have a French penpal who's ugly looking.Wish he looked like Jean Michel Jarre.
Oh la la la !!
