  • Thank you for tuning in to this week's episode of Fratello Talks. You join RJ, Timo, and your host Nacho, who are going to be covering a rather broad topic. That's right, this week it's all about watches in cinema. In this episode we'll cover anything from memorable sightings, to examples of marketing gone too far. How much can brands get away with when it comes to blatant product placement? And does it actually have its desired effect? We also cover movie-themed watches and touch upon some of our favorites featured on film.

This is a nice video, but it would have been SO much better if you would have paned to pictures of each watch you discuss

Yup, that should've been done at minimum.
No-one would mind them even scrolling to find the watches on the internet while discussing.

Thanks for this guys, I really enjoyed it and I learned a lot. Watches in movies is a huge subject though, and while a video like this just serves as an introduction, I find myself checking the watches worn whenever I see a movie. 😊

Another top chat video guys. Lots of watches but to include even a fraction of them could have made the video days long. I think of the Pulsar in Live and Let Die, The "Arnie" Seiko in Predator and a bunch of Casio watches all over the place including "Alien" and "Back to the Future". Seiko of course played a role in James Cameron's "Aliens". You covered the stand out ones well though. Thanks for sharing.

The watch in American Psycho was a Rolex. They needed to change it for the film. - A Speedmaster featured also in the film Mechanic with Jason Statham as the watch his father gave him. He gives it to his girlfriend in the film to look after it.

That auction was a disaster, most lots didnt sell. And 4.5 for a gmt is insane.

Missed the opportunity to talk about the watches in Succession and how they evolved as the characters evolved

For Speedy Pro fans and collectors The Adam Project (movie) features this watch as an important feature in the story. For Rolex GMT fans, Magnum PI GMT 16750, which in the story line was handed down to a young Magnum after his dad died in combat during the Korean War ... Yes the version used in the show didn't come to existence until 1981. That said, season 4 episode 1 "Home from the sea" has a lot of great Rolex GMT shots, with and without a ghost bezel. Cheers!!

Abraham Lincoln’s watch in “Lincoln” is the greatest use of a watch in a movie.

It was a a solid gold Girard Perragaux Vintage 1945 that Pierce Brosnan purchased which made his knees shake. You give JLC too much credit.

Ah, I didn't mean to imply it was the JLC from the movie - but to highlight that he actually is a watch guy and that the JLC might have also been his (as an explanation for the blurring). Thanks for adding that fact!

16:15 Talking about period correct watches, most Omega watches used in modern day movies were modern time pieces while "vintage" should have been used.
In 1983 "The Right Stuff" modern Speedies were worn by some test pilots while in 2016 " L'Odyssée " moden Seamasters were used by Cousteau and his divers 🧐Only watch nerds notice this!

40 years ago... The Right Stuff - How the Future began. movie based on Tom Wolfe's 1979 bestselling book on test pilots and astronauts.
The remarkable physical/medical test phase scene with at left "John Glenn " (Ed Harris) wearing his watch with expendable bracelet on the inner wrist. A nice little detail in this movie as we know US Marine Corps aviator Colonel John Glenn often wore his watches this way. Best known is JOhn Glenn pictured wearing his 24 Hours black dial Le Coultre this way. #MoonwatchUniverse

FWIW, I couldn't care less what another person wears, and celebrity endorsement (or 'influencer' promotion) is a major turn-off for me.
