The Explorer 1 in the 40mm case is perfect! Such a nice-looking watch, and one that is also so versatile to be dressed up or down. The proportions are simply fantastic! I've always wanted a Sub, but I think I could be very happy to get the Rolex Explorer 224270.
I am glad they came out with this size, because the 36mm was too small for me. I tried on the exhibition 40mm model recently and loved it on my wrist. I do think the male end links Rolex likes to use will limit the fit on some smaller wrists, but there is always the 36mm model if that is the case. I will stick with my Explorer II 226570 for now, but maybe I will pick up one of these somewhere down the line.

The 40mm is an outstanding watch. Great size. Dress it up or dress it down. The Air King is a strong contender as well.

I tried on this sized at my Ad and I just love it . I own the mark 2 version 39mm it’s a toss up but I might go for the 40. Thanks for sharing Edgar you are the best my friend

why would any one go for the 39mm anymore? it has matte dial which is ugly and the bracelet is more dainty than the 40mm.
It looks huge, like a 41/42mm, too much wrist presence for what it needs to be. However, it works better for guys with wrists bigger than 7 inches. It’s perfect for guys who prefer larger watches. For me the no nonsense low key aesthetic 36mm is the proper Explorer. However it would be perfect at 37/38mm with a 20mm lug width.
The submariner im wearing is the past version 40mm
@@edgarthejeweler Yes compared to the submariner, the dial looks huge side by side. Unfortunately the 36mm version is more of a 34mm in actual measurement. A true 36mm with bracelet a mm wider would be the perfect entry level sports watch.
@@Milofchg I’m a 7 1/4 inch wrister… I’m on the 40 mm list. Tried on both multiple times. 40 just seems right.
@@David-m8z I will say if I wasn't a watch guy or a REAL TRUE one watch guy. Maybe the 40mm Explorer (without ever knowing/trying a 36mm) would be perfect for a one and done. Just like back in the day the 36mm Explorer was the only option. However, I do have a few other timepieces that vary in size and functions. A Speedy Pro hesalite 42mm, Panerai 1312 Luminor Marina 44mm, JLC Reverso Tribute to 1931 27mm W x 45mm L, Submariner 5513 maxi dial 40mm, IWC Pilot Mark XV 38mm. All black dials, all mono chromatic, all strap monsters, all different sizes. So the 36mm Explorer fits perfect in my collection. If I want to rock a small discreet watch (which the Explorer and Speedy are the pieces I wear the most) the Explorer is always a go to watch. I think for me a 40mm Explorer would not fit into my collection because it looks just as big as my Speedy, my Sub. If I were to get something else in the 39-42mm (black dial stainless steel/white gold) range it would stand the same. It took me 20 years get to where I'm at as far as collecting watches. LOTS of mistakes, trial and error, money lost, and some sellers remorse for a few that I sold.
If you actually knew what you were talking about, you’d know that the 36mm isn’t even a true 36. It wears like a 34, which is too dainty for most men. 40 is fine, the lug to lug is essentially the same as the 39.
Gracias por el vídeo, me ha gustado, como también es una preciosidad el Sub que llevas. En cuanto al Explorer, los 40 mm, o los 39, poca diferencia hay, si los tienes juntos, si se podría apreciar, creo que es más una cuestión de marketing lo de ese milímetro, quito el 39, continúo con el 36, y sacó una versión nueva del reloj en 40. Yo, desde mi modesta opinión, veo un reloj GADA, un reloj, que como su nombre indica, es de exploración, es un reloj, incluso de campo, lo que ocurre es que esta marca, sólo sabe hacer las cosas bien, es una marca de lujo (como le sucede a Omega con el Aquaterra), pero es un reloj, de "aventura", si quieres un reloj de vestir tienes el Day Date, Date Just ..., este, es un reloj herramienta, como el Sub que llevas, eso no significa que no se pueda llegar por la calle, sólo faltaba! Pero que ese tamaño no está mal, otra cosa es que tenga el usuario una muñeca pequeña, entonces ok, al 36, pero le pasará con todos los relojes.
Un GADA, de 39 a 41 mm
Exploración/campo 38 a 40
Un Diver de 42 a 46
Flieger 42 a 47
Cronómetro marina 42 a 44
Vestir, 36 a 38

Como digo, es mi opinión, y lo más importante es como se sienta uno con el reloj, no a mí, sino al que va a comprarlo, y ese Rolex (salvo su precio), me tiene enamorado, ese, y el Aquaterra de 41.

Ludicrous having the word Explorer at the top of the dial, murders symmetry, put it back ffs.
I feel like the 3-6-9 bring a lot of weight to the bottom half of the dial. So I like the Explorer text better up top. Where symmetry is lost, balance is gained. Plus, it makes it the same as the 36mm variant. While there's slightly more black dial space on the 40mm, the dial is only a couple of mm bigger on the 40mm. I like it.

Why? The 40 has about the same size .05 difference and shorter lug to lug so actually wears smaller than the 39?
