I've had my CR-Z for 2.5 years. It's a 2014 base 6MT. I absolutely love this little car! It's mainly used for commuting and around town. The intake and exhaust are aftermarket and sound quite good. She puts down roughly the same number for HP and torque, 120 for both. Yes, I confirmed this on a dyno. Pros: great fuel economy, manual transmission, and good looks (mainly compliments on the North Shore blue pearl paint). Cons: no back seat (would it be big enough for adults anyway? no), terrible rear visibility (backup camera included), "disconnected" steering feel, and harsh ride over rough roads. The CR-Z can actually haul quite a lot too. I've had the back packed with nearly 30 bags of garden compost. She was sitting low but handled it no problem. Here's to hoping Honda makes the CR-Z again!
I would buy a CR-Z although I wish they would add the backseats instead of the storage compartments just seems a bit more practical with having extra seating whether they make it a 4 seat or 5 it would make it nicer to buy then the 2 seat
Looking at one of these now many years later for some reason - would be perfect if the backseats extended further into the trunk and still folded down when you need cargo space, but that would probably break safety standards or something.
This car was made for me. I don’t have kids and usually drive by myself or 1 other person. I love the gas mileage and the sporty look. I don’t drive fast and take my time in the slow lane. Betty white ( cars name ) and I love our adventures. Super happy owning this car 🤍
I got a 2014 manual and its up on power compared to the older one I can touch into the 7s at 0-60. and I don't seem to as easly run out of ima battery. also I have yet to pull into a gas station and have less then 42 mpg avg and have gotten up to 45 avg when epa says 31-39. as for traction a drive windy hilly country roads and the car feels very planted in sport mode and was still getting 43mpg. yeah I could have gone out and got an evo or sti but would have had the major down side of maybe 20 mpg and premium gas and high insurance, not to mention maintenance cost. yeah its price tag is a bit high but the prius costs 3 to 4000 more
My CRX averages about 48mpg and my record was 53.1mpg. It's not very refined at all but it's really fun to drive, even with the world's worst tires and brakes. My ideal would be a first-generation Insight. It's not quite as fast as the others in terms of engine, but I've read it's surprisingly sporty in the suspension and gets like 70 to the gallon.
@koolskater5 - The biggest visibility issue is actually the split rear glass. The seam/support between the upper and lower hatch glass takes some real getting used to and does block a clear shot at cars behind you - but it's the most direct carry over from the CRX. We recommend taking one for a test drive and you'll know pretty quick if it's something you could adapt to and accept.
@@tylercrawford1700 check again. I don't like owning a me too car. I rarely ever see a Honda crz like I see the above mentioned vehicles. Have a good day

The CRZ was made for people like me. It's a perfect little daily (with the manual) car for around town, fun back roads, and short trips. The engine setup is where I think hybrid stuff should be going! A traditional petrol engine with an electric boost to fill in the gaps and provide nearly instant urge. I've only been able to drive the CVT models this far as it was incredibly difficult to find a 6spd manual in the area. Now I'm back on the hunt again for one and they've become super cheap to boot. :) great little car
You are correct about asking who is this car for? The Civic gets better MPG to satisfy the Eco-drivers as well as the entry-level tuners. And the Accord V6 w/stick would blow the doors off the CRZ on the track. So I don't really get this car. Honda had a great compact sports car: the S2000, and they killed it. The CRZ is no replacement.
i own the 2007 Honda Fit Sport. I love it, but this car is the clear update/upgrade over it. The fit seems boring when compared to this CR-Z. I hardly ever have 3 people in my car, even though I drive almost all my friends around all the time. For a work and daily use car, the 2014 CR-Z looks to be far better over all than even the Fit. In style. In function. In looks. Not including the new Fit EV. that gets points for not needing "a drop" of oil. However, it looks kinda lame or at least boring. CR-Z FTW.

Guys, the 500 is not a sports car, is just a small stylish car to waft around town. If you want a sport car with this shape, wait for the Abarth EsseEsse version, almost 200 HP in less than 2000 lb. Its looks are a modern version of the original 1957 car, and I think the desing is pretty awesome compared to other ultra obvious retro shapes as Camaro and Beetle.

Problem is that here the diesel equipped car costs a couple thousand more and the fuel is about 10-20% more expensive negating your fuel mileage successes. The diesel cars end up costing more. It's not that we don't understand, but that our economy doesn't work how yours does.
@XSquareStickIt YOU said this: "I'm thinking that the CR-Z is something like the NSX was back in the day".. No- you are completely wrong. it is NOTHING like an NSX. You have to ask why I said that was dumb? That proves something to me right there.
@DaBomb31290 Your right, im not a honda fan at all but an Si model i think would do really well. And hype-brids as you put them are just a marketing gimmic to make money. They dont do anything better, except make the repair shops 3x more money when they break
Vtec and its sold. I love saving the world but a eco mode on sports car kills it. Should had been normal and sport or no modes i prefer. I rode in an integra before and really feel the vtec except in my old ep3
@bdub232 I'm thinking it's similar to the NSX in the sense that they bring 2 concepts together that no one thought of doing. In the NSX's case it was blending comfort with performance. And the CR-Z blends economy with sport. Learn to read the entire comment before you claim it's stupid, stupid.
There's a plague of under-powered cars (like Toyobaru twins: it's not Maketing over substance/function but still..) .. CRZ looks good (no shame to park it next to CRX:) but where's the POWER ?!? (at least in Type-R option from producer.. why leave it to tuners ?!?) You can't have SPORT and ECO in one car (and that's Maketing over substance/function...) FIAT 500, even a little bit shmancy-fancy, is basicly a honnest car ...
@halflifemasta - Well, we're sorry to have you go. Care to share what you're disappointed about? Especially if you "don't want to"... why not stick around?
it'll be decades before Americans understand that 30-35 mpg is nothing compared to the mpg's they make in europe.....over 50mpg has become the average norm over there.....they just don't understand....if you want a sporty eco car, buy a diesel BMW 320d M sport.
uhhh... whatever- it's wrong. I read it already. Mid-engine aluminum super car has nothing to do with a craptastic hybrid front engine, front drive, steel car.
Why not just wait for the 2012 skyactiv Mazda 3? It will get up to 40 mpg, cost less, actually be fun to drive, be faster and more engaging, offer a manual as well, have three more seats, twice the practicality, and it won't have the annoying stigma of being a hybrid. This car is poorly executed and kind of pointless to me.

I have the European sold 4 seat version, the back seats are useless for any kind of adult. Just small kids which I don't have so pointless.
Looking at one of these now many years later for some reason - would be perfect if the backseats extended further into the trunk and still folded down when you need cargo space, but that would probably break safety standards or something.

Make a review on tha dodge challenger
@DaBomb31290 Your right, im not a honda fan at all but an Si model i think would do really well. And hype-brids as you put them are just a marketing gimmic to make money. They dont do anything better, except make the repair shops 3x more money when they break
Vtec and its sold. I love saving the world but a eco mode on sports car kills it. Should had been normal and sport or no modes i prefer. I rode in an integra before and really feel the vtec except in my old ep3
The CRZ has vtec
They both are going to pick the mini cooper out of the 3. The End.
Dear Honda:
MAKE AN SI CRZ WITH A K20!!!!!
kthxbye.
Diller2 they really should’ve. It was a missed opportunity
Love the CR-Z but I would take the Mini over it.
they made it for me
@bdub232 I'm thinking it's similar to the NSX in the sense that they bring 2 concepts together that no one thought of doing. In the NSX's case it was blending comfort with performance. And the CR-Z blends economy with sport. Learn to read the entire comment before you claim it's stupid, stupid.
XSquare StickIt I agree with that. Car reviews have said that about both.
Every month driver lol, 3.21-3.26 i thought my phone was about to get a text or call
i think these 2 guys should replace the current top gear america host. these 2 guys are better reviewer then them...IMO
honda fanboys..... who could like this car or the si?
There's a plague of under-powered cars (like Toyobaru twins: it's not Maketing over substance/function but still..) ..
CRZ looks good (no shame to park it next to CRX:) but where's the POWER ?!? (at least in Type-R option from producer.. why leave it to tuners ?!?)
You can't have SPORT and ECO in one car (and that's Maketing over substance/function...)
FIAT 500, even a little bit shmancy-fancy, is basicly a honnest car ...
3:45 Casually just a dude on a horse...
@halflifemasta - Well, we're sorry to have you go. Care to share what you're disappointed about? Especially if you "don't want to"... why not stick around?
Driving over yellow line! I'm going to report you!
are you joking?
it'll be decades before Americans understand that 30-35 mpg is nothing compared to the mpg's they make in europe.....over 50mpg has become the average norm over there.....they just don't understand....if you want a sporty eco car, buy a diesel BMW 320d M sport.
uhhh... whatever- it's wrong. I read it already. Mid-engine aluminum super car has nothing to do with a craptastic hybrid front engine, front drive, steel car.
its a aluminum body and yes its a hybrid
the long haired hippie would like hybrids
Base model price is too expensive. Honda should have asked for $14,000 starting price. Then they actually would have sold.
+Xenophene01 I have a better idea - why not give it away! Wait....or even pay you to take one!
@XSquareStickIt That's the dumbest thing I heard all day and I talked to a drunk guy earlier.
Not digging the styling...go retro never gets old...I can see how this styling will get old after a couple years.
