  • Characters and eyes can be difficult to create on cookies, but this simple wet on wet technique used for the eyes makes the cookies pop! Here is what I used to make them:
    Edible food pen: emmassweets.ca/collections/co...
Eyes (medium consistency royal icing) - I mixed chocolate brown and black to achieve the deep brown. Read more on consistencies on my website here: www.emmassweets.ca/royal-icing...
    Tipless Piping bags: emmassweets.ca/collections/co...
    Scribe tool: emmassweets.ca/collections/sc...
Brown icing for eyes and hair outline: I used a warm brown and mixed in some of the dark mixture from her hair
Skin colour: I mixed warm brown with ivory (and a touch of chocolate brown).
I place the cookies in front of a cool fan to dry in between each step. Before using the edible food pen to add facial details, ensure cookies are completely dry. 8 hours to overnight.

Hi can I ask how you store your royal icing please to stop it going hard? And can you store it and re use for different projects over a few days once you've mixed different colours? Thanks so much x

Hi Fiona, I store my royal icing in an air tight container and keep refrigerated when not using. I usually use mine within a week!

+Natalie Rivera I place in front of a cool fan for at least an hour before moving on to the next step. Just be very careful when handling or you can damage the icing!

your work is beautiful! You make it look so easy. How long should you dry the icing using a fan, I’m wanting a shine to my icing and have been told the fan helps.
