This seriously is the coolest Thing since the release of the o3 airunit!!! Thank you so much for your time and effort! I love it! I think every quad manufacturer has to come out with a frame Design for this Quickswap System! Do you think it is possible to make a Design that has the same degree of mounting strengh but with toolless Installation (eg. Clickin mechanism)? Or a two piece Quick Swap Design to mount the airunit in the back? All rc Models will benefit from this! (Rc cars, boats, airplanes, Wings). I can See this as the perfect fake drone camera for no flyzones. Your Design mountend on a mounting plate with active cooling and USB-C Power paired with a gimbal on a Monopod (eg dji om 5 or the Medinedrone headtracked Gimbal) would be better than anything on the marked right now (because of the combination of glyroflow and gimbal stabilisation)
Thanks so much for your kind words, Christian! I've literally been thinking about designing a quad frame system of my own with this concept in mind. Of course it will only be compatible with the line of frames that I come up with, but perhaps people might like to switch between 3 inch to 7 inch from the same designer. And if the system is popular enough, then some manufacturers might catch on. I was gonna say I don't think it's possible to have a toolless click in mechanism for faster swapping between freestyle quads (given the abuse they are subjected to in crashes), but I think I have an idea that might work with locking mechanisms. The problem with mounting the camera and main body separately is the mipi connector between them, which is a 30+ pin cable that's finicky to attach and detach (unless I misunderstood you). Yep, would be great to try this on other styles of RC, like my little basher rock crawler LoL can't wait to give that a go. Great idea on the fake drone shots on a pole, the only problem is the full power mode only works if a Betaflight "Arm" command is transmitted. I guess you could mount a dummy flight controller along with the whole system just to perform that action. Thanks again and I'll upload more videos of upgrades etc. Cheers! 👍
I am so much looking forward to New content from you about this topic. A special framedesign would be dope! It would be so genius if you could design a sturdy click in mechanism for your O3 hotswap System! The idea of two hotswap Modules was not to detach the camera from the airunit but to have more mounting options eg camera in front than battery than airunit for antenna clearance and weight distribution. The camera would not have to be dedached from the Airunit for this. But you would have to have two locking mechanisms which may add more weight. I was thinking about a Dummy flightcontroller as well. In the case of the fake drone shot gimbal this would mean a tiny gimbal would be possible and an big heatsink for the airunit because the gimbal would not have to carry the airunit. Like a dji Pocket 3 on Steroids because of gyroflow or rocksteady and with a low latency videofeed to the goggles. If medlinedrone actually comes out with a O3 gimbal you could have actually 3 usecases in 1 airunit. Gimbaled drone, Action cam, dji pocket 3 camera and because of your hotswap solution all of that with just one airunit purchase how cool would that be!? 😉 a little bit like insta360 but opensource.
Thanks for your support! Content might take a while, given this isn't my full time thing, and I've got kids haha. I see what you mean about the two modules now. I'll see if I can incorporate it into the design somehow. Thanks! Indeed it would be a cool system! Interesting things to come 👍
Great job, i was actually thinking something like that to use for a spetactor, since i have the goggles 1, so i will fly with my goggles 2 and the spectator keeps the goggles 1, nice to see that im not the only one thinking about this kind of setup hehe...just one note, for example, on your 3 inch quad you could do a new design with the O3 unit on the rear with the antenna coming out more in the rear and the camera on the front. i dont know if i was clear...it would lower all the design... on the 5 inch you could also do the same but then you would have to run the battery on the botton of the quad...but you would improve the antena position a lot.
Hey @Nuno Cruz. Thanks for your support! Your idea to have the antenna more on the rear makes sense. I might play around with that idea and let you know. I kind of steered away from that in the design I showcased, due to the fact that the 5 inch would also need the battery to be mounted on the underside, but it could work for others who are already used to that - such as racers. I haven't noticed any issues yet on video reception for the flights I do. I have tested it out to +250 metres with consistent 50mbps, but of course that's no real long range at all. I don't fly far 😆
Unfortunately I don't have a five33 switchback. Can you give me the exact distance dimensions of the screws on the top plate? ie, distance between two front screws, two rear screws, and distance from front screws to the back screws? I'll model it and upload.
Yeh. That's the usual way and how I was doing it with analogue video system because analogue is cheap - $20 each quad. But going to a digital video feed system, that would cost an O3 Air Unit in each quad - US$229 ($400 in Australian dollarbucks). Using the SwitchBlock I only have to buy one and get to use HD Digital on all my drones.
Good job. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks! 😁
Definitely brilliant
very interesting design, i kinda like it! even though this is nothing for me since i have to fly with a gopro, i still like the idea :)
I like you man! Some good stuff buddy! I seen another guy with a similar idea!

Thanks Robert! 👍
actually this is a great idea..

Brilliant! and chance you can design a set where the antenna sits vertical? id like to ba able to attach it to a fixed wing aircraft too.
Have seen you on JB.
Haha cool!! Yeh I asked him to review it and thankfully he thought it was a good idea! 😁😁 I was very glad and happy with his response 👍
can you make one for five33 switchback

@@nxp200 hey top plate is rectangular design with 20mm and 51mm dimensions
@@notyet_fpv cool. I'll upload the STL soon and let you know.
@@nxp200 thank you so much man
@@notyet_fpv no worries. I'm pretty sure, but just to confirm, it's M3 hardware screws, right?
it is a cool idea. it just seems like you should just get a gopro or another action camera instead.
