My Grandpa’s 07 GMC Sierra 1500 has an estimated 700k-800k on it, the odometer stopped working back in 2018 when it was almost at 500k. I inherited my Grandpa’s truck back in January 2024 when he passed away. My Grandpa & Grandma lived on a farm where they did foster care for multiple children me included, on top of that they also custom fed/raised a 1000 head of cattle, (from 2 weeks old to 400 lbs) for a larger feedlot here in Alberta. In which they did a tremendous amount of driving each year, at least 80k to 100k a year. Ever since I inherited the truck I’ve driven it pretty much every day, and it’s never left me stranded lol. Everything on this truck is original, besides the transmission I replaced it 3 months ago, when I decided to do a burnout 😐
A couple weeks after that ordeal the engine started making a new noise not a tick or a knock, but a metal on metal type of sound, it’s coming from the bottom end by the flex plate & torque converter. I’m hoping it’s the flex plate or the torque converter and not the camshaft. It sounds like a camshaft but it’s not coming from where the camshaft is located. I’ll be posting a vid of it on here soon, for those who want to have a listen to it. Also you can’t hear the noise from inside at all, only from the outside you can hear it, that’s why I don’t think it’s a knock, but other than that the truck runs fine.

Question, I bought a 2013 Sierra. I really like the truck but seems like the transmission does better if I leave it in manual mode especially helps it from shifting into 6th back to 5th constantly.
My question is will it cause damage to leave it manual full time and just keep it at 5th until I possibly get on the interstate then I’d just up it to 6th

Towed cars with it with the only issue being the original front brakes were weak. Aftermarket pads and rotors helped. I disabled the AFM and fuel mileage actually improved. No oil consumption issues. Got t-boned and the truck was totaled. Bought a 2013 Denali 1500 crew cab w/6.2/6L80 in 2019. My favorite body style. Love this truck. Thats why I picked up a 2013 with the 4.8l and a manual 4x4 shifter, and the 4 speed trans, 77k miles, just breaking in. Last year it was offered with those options. I don't have to worry about any of those major issues the 5.3 and 6.0 have. I also use fluid film heavily in all the areas where rust is an issue as a result the truck has no rust. The few other small issues mentioned are easy enough to deal with if they arise. My truck also has the basic work truck trim, so none of the buttons are worn out either. Last year of the 2nd generation which shares almost the same platform as the first generation as well as the same drivetrain. So its the more modern version with the more reliable 1st gen. With that, on that specific model, I give it a 9.5 out of 10. If you have the 5.3 or 6.0 disable it and you should be okay. Great trucks otherwise.

My 2007 Sierra is still running strong. One issue that you seemed to overlook is the lousy attachment of the side rear view mirrors. Mine became loose many years ago. Many automatic car washes refuse to allow these trucks in because they have broken off so many. Even the auto train from DC to Fl won’t allow these trucks on because the mirrors have to be folded in which is tricky to do without completely breaking them off the truck

If you take care of them and change synthetic oil regularly they run great! I have a 2011 5.3l ext cab 107k miles. Just replaced the rear brakes and have never serviced the front brakes. Outside of oil pressure sensor it’s good. I have never drained or flushed the transmission, my mechanic looked at it and said it looked close to stock and still shifted very smooth. Mechanic recommended a coolant flush soon, heater hose replace, and oil coolant lines (preventative maintenance). I do have to say the dash cracked at probably 90k but you don’t really notice it. The buttons on climate control have gotten rubbed off. Other than that it’s a great truck!

Had a 2012 i bought at 80k miles and put another 100k on it as my dd over 5 years. Only light i ever got on the dash was a MAF. Never had the infamous lifter faliure these trucks are known for but the torque converter ended up comming apart and tore up the transmission. To be fair i beat on that thing like it owed me money.

My Grandpa's 07 GMC Sierra 1500 has an estimated 700k-800k on it, the odometer stopped working back in 2018 when it was almost at 500k. I inherited my Grandpa's truck back in January 2024 when he passed away. Ever since I inherited the truck l've driven it pretty much every day, and it's never left me stranded lol. Everything on this truck is original, besides the transmission I replaced it 3 months ago, when I decided to do a burnout
A couple weeks after that ordeal the engine started making a new noise not a tick or a knock, but a metal on metal type of sound, it's coming from the bottom end by the flex plate & torque converter. I'm hoping it's the flex plate or the torque converter and not the camshaft. It sounds like a camshaft but it's not coming from where the camshaft is located. I'll be posting a vid of it on here soon, for those who want to have a listen to it. Also you can't hear the noise from inside at all, only from the outside you can hear it, that's why I don't think it's a knock, but other than that the truck runs fine.

I have an “07.5” ( came out half way through the year 07-13) NBS Silverado 1500 4.8 z71 . I bought it used with 100k. Paint and body were in great shape, brakes were shot all around, Has Rear Drums which I dont really mind but some people do. Immediately replaced spark plugs looking to fix a rough idle and poor performance (which it did). Only thing I would change is the TERRIBLE 4l60e . Had to rebuild at 119k (bought it at 106k). If you have the means to put a 4l80e in that’d be the way to go! Besides that I had leveled, nitto grappler on 18” wheel, TB ported, Installed S&B CAI, Corsa performance 3” exhaust and “blacked out” mostly all of the truck(still working on some of that). I recommend the truck for sure, If you have AFM, you can get it tuned out as long as the damage is not already done. For the little 4.8 with a street tune it moves and is very responsive. If your on the fence about buying a Silverado I say go for it, Just Be careful with those 4L60e or plan to get a solid stage 1 rebuild right away. Take care of it and it will take care of you. See my truck @tacticalchef on instagram.

Gm is literally getting sued as we speak for the previous 2 gens of this truck. The oil consuption issue is not only a problem on this truck but many other gm models of that era. There is also a "chevy shake" problem on the 14 and later models because of a garbage aluminum drive shaft. I love when people tell me they only buy chevys because there reliable. My sister thought that too, right up until she had to replace a blown engine in her 09 silverado with less than 60k on the odometer. Im sure the one at my work is a 2008. I wish we had a better mechanic because he only fixes the problem on why it won't run and not the other problems. Pretty much all the lights are lit up on the dash 😂 it has a loud clicking that sounds like it's in the front driver side wheel area. It misfires like crazy and when you floor it, I'm pretty sure i saw a snail pass me leaving me in the dust 😂. Emergency brake doesn't work either. Its also throwing code for knock sensor and the IAC valve or throttle body position sensor. Im sure the voltage regulator or alternator is bad because you can watch the volt gauge from all day go from between 14 to like 12.5 volts. The headlights you can see slightly pulsating when you pull up to a building. If the hazards are on, the inside lights fade really heavy when the hazards light up. Theres been times I've floored it to get up to speed when pulling out onto a highway, it'll tach at almost 6k RPM before finally shifting. I told my coworker that I'm waiting for one of these days for a head to lift, valve get bent or for a piston to shoot out the sidewall.

It only has sixty-six thousand miles on it now 10 years later my dashboard is cracked horribly. I've gone through three sets of door switches. And I currently keep a range device plugged in so it stays in V8 mode now the rear end is starting to get noisy and I'd have to swap out for a locker. But it's still cheaper than buying a new Silverado. My daily driver is a 2006 V6 regular cab short bed Silverado there's only a hundred 26000 miles on it. My 2018 F-150 is not perfect, but it does what Ford says it will do and does get good MPG (23-24 city and 25-27 on the highway). Plus, no rust worries.

A GM with no rust is like seeing water that's not wet.

I have a 2007 (not Classic) Sierra SLE
This truck was apparently designed by jokers.
    Some annoying things for me:
    - Control buttons painted black but cast in green plastic. WTF? Why not cast in black plastic?
    - Seat back pivots only about 3". WTF? How is anyone supposed to reach behind the seat? You need to slide the seat forward to get access.
    - Jack/spare tire tool package located in the middle behind the center console. WTF? Unless you are skinny, you will have a hard time removing and (especially) re-stowing the tool set.
    - Pressing the air recirculate button automatically turns on the AC (even in winter with the heater active). WTF? There is already a button in the center of the fan speed control to control the AC. Also, I live in Florida, so I always run it on recirculate because (1) it is humid as hell here and I don't want to get blasted by 100% humid hot air and (2) I don't like sucking in exhaust fumes from other vehicles.
    - Accessing the spare tire requires assembling and inserting a crank tool to lower the wheel by cable. This means no struggling to remove and lift the wheel manually. It also means if you have a camper in the bed that you will need to jack up and remove the camper (by driving the truck 15 feet with a flat tire) to access the hole for the wheel hoist.
    - No covers for the cigarette lighter/power jacks. WTF? Dust and debris, not to mention fingers, can easily enter the holes -- I bought a pair from China for $4.
Also, the clear coat has significantly de-laminated, especially in the tail gate.
The best way to fix cracked dash plastic requires removing the entire plastic dash cover (not a quick or easy job). Join the top with tape and flip it over. Then use metal staples or wire mesh and melt it into the plastic. Why didn't GM do this when manufacturing this part? (Because they are cheap bastards?) The engineers had to have known when the stress points would be. It would probably add $50 to the part. Now the consumer, must pay $300 or more to have this done.
Every time I order parts, I must confirm that the parts are not for the 2007 Classic model. So now when I search for parts, I search for 2008 model parts to avoid the confusion.
This truck makes me miss my 1989 Ford F150 -- even though it was a clunker.

As owner for 2012 Silverado, this guy is absolutely corret. Also remember remember that it is very important to have Synthetic Oil Change very often and check it every other week. I also installed oil catch can, That AFM must go though and it will cost about 3500$ with parts and labor.

They make a device that plugs right into your OBD2 port that disables that feature for $200

a catch can is only beneficial for GDI engines. this generation is port injected since they were still vortec. the next generation when they changed to ecotec is where a catch can may be beneficial
