  • After leaving Swellendam we arrived at Bontebok National Park. We always have a competition to see who sees the first animal and I always lose. We saw Red Hartebeest and a Tortoise. The Bontebok were very far away. It was raining the whole time while travelling through the park to reach our campsite. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica

A very very nice park that I really love....very nice camping facilities. And so close for a day drive to Malagas on the Breede river. And now that we saw a tortoise...do you know that with all the tortoises...big or small...those "blocks" on their backs....count them next time...always 13 blocks...not one more...not one less...

We agree, we love this park too! We were very comfortable in our tent and we thoroughly enjoyed camping there, despite the odd drop of rain. Those campsites down by the river are absolutely gorgeous! 🏕️ A tortoise is one of our ultimate favourite animals and we never knew that about them. Thank you for the interesting info, love that! 😍🐢 We visited Malgas and the Pont on the same trip, it's a gorgeous area all along the mighty Breede! You should get to that video too sometime. 😊

Pity that the weather didn't play along when you were there! Do you reckon it's worth spending a full day at the Bontebok National Park or is it too small to justify an entire day for overseas visitors?

We have no choice to take the weather just as it comes. It was actually quite a cool experience to drive around in the drizzle. 🦌🌧️ We can for sure easily spend a whole day there, but then again we're totally happy hunting for the little things like tortoises and such. It's a tiny park, so one can cover it a few times in one day. 🚙🐢 If you're done early, you can also explore the historic neighbouring town of Swellendam, the fourth oldest town in South Africa.

@@DustBugsTravel Baie Dankie! This is very useful to know! Given its historic value, it may be an idea to stay over night in Swellendam (although we don't have a Bluetti).
