Back in the day, when I lived in Toronto, I called Q107 to ask them to play this song. The DJ told me I was a f**king loser who had no clue what Styx was and what they were about. Overlooking the fact I had their entire catalogue on vinyl, and really liked them all for quite different reasons (band evolution, popular styles and taste evolution, personal evolution, etc) I was actually interested in a discussion as to why he was so virulent about hating this song. But he simply hung up. It was, admittedly, a pretty divisive tune for the band as well as its fan base. Nice to see they've made their peace with it - it really works well live. And, yes, Dennis DeYoung probably enjoys taking the checks to the bank.
I have to tell...Gowan here is magic as always! I don't mind to put down silly comparisons but I just want to say he's a great performer and fits perfectly in Styx, even for these songs written back in the first Styx era. Also Todd, Jesus, what can I tell???...he's an incredible talented drummer, he just sets the bar higher than anyone else. Pure gold! More than this, it could be having Dennis back for a tour together with Lawrence. That would be a dream.

I think it did a much better job on this song than singing many of the others, but no one sings it better than Dennis. Dennis was also the guy that wrote all those amazing Styx keyboard parts. I read long time ago this band hated this song! It was Dennis DeYoung’s attempt at a concept album. I read they swore they would never play this song live. Then I was at a little casino about 6-7 yrs ago and they played this live! It totally blew me away. I thought I would never see this song performed live! I wonder why they changed their mind. I love this song. I know many STYX fans hated it when it came out

1 of most entertaining concerts I ever seen. The original Kilroy concert. I worked at the civic center, attended hundreds of shows. Kilroy was ahead of it's time.
Kilroy was Platinum. They are the only Rock band with 4 DP records in a row. Still no RR HOF? Another band that is deserving: STEPPENWOLF... I am a musician and imho the HOF has become a JOKE...

I wouldn’t go that far! 😂 I’d add, Dennis Deyoung tours as “Dennis Deyoung and the Music of Styx” and his version of Styx, dare I say it, is better than the official one. In that, attendees get all the the Dennis songs sung by Dennis and the 4-5 Tommy hits sung be a qualified Tommy replacement. Deyoung’s Tommy is a better “Tommy” than McGowan is a Deyoung. That said, the set list is more appropriately collaborated, with about 90% Deyoung songs and 10% Shaw songs, as it should be. Let’s face it, we go to a Styx concert to hear the Deyoung songs. Tommy Shaw is fooling himself to think otherwise. Truth be told, if Deyoung tours with Styx catalogue, he can get by with 98% songs where he had lead vocal. All he needs from Shaw’s songs are Fooling Yourself and Renegade. Everything else is a treat.

Also, it's terribly hypocritical of the band to be performing this song, considering they tore everything apart because of it.
That's the latest gimmick it seems... Iron Maiden welcomed back a departed guitarist without firing his replacement, Helloween has its original vocalist and guitarist return to the fold without ousting the other 2 axemen, and even brought back the 2nd vocalist (1st replacement) for a total of 3 lead vocalists. It's getting more common. I suppose it adds a richer sound with more options for harmonizing and solos, without having to lose a continuous riff in order to do them?
Even though original singer Dennis DeYoung was awesome, Gowan does an AMAZING job as lead vocalist. And I LOVE Gowan too, he's an incredible talent. I once met him in Calgary at our Stampede grounds after his summer concert there.
Who is the extra guitarist ? I think they did this to stick it to whining Dennis. I kinda like it, but I'd never complain if it wasn't on the set list at a Styx show.

It's his fluidity of motion. No tension, just loose and laser accurate. NO ONE has that level of flair balanced with economy... 11 stars out of 10.

@@xoxxobob61 It's not uncommon for bands to invite a friend or two to tour with them to help that friend earn some money. A lot of bands do this. But I agree, he's not needed. Also, it's terribly hypocritical of the band to be performing this song, considering they tore everything apart because of it.
That's the latest gimmick it seems... Iron Maiden welcomed back a departed guitarist without firing his replacement, Helloween has its original vocalist and guitarist return to the fold without ousting the other 2 axemen, and even brought back the 2nd vocalist (1st replacement) for a total of 3 lead vocalists.
It's getting more common. I suppose it adds a richer sound with more options for harmonizing and solos, without having to lose a continuous riff in order to do them?

Even though original singer Dennis DeYoung was awesome, Gowan does an AMAZING job as lead vocalist. And I LOVE Gowan too, he's an incredible talent. I once met him in Calgary at our Stampede grounds after his summer concert there.
