They Perished in a DEADLY Avalanche on Everest

In 1989, six Polish climbers were on their way down from the summit of Everest when they were struck by a massive avalanche. Four died within hours; a fifth did not survive the night. One injured climber was left stranded on the mountain. He was saved couple of days later in a heroic rescue bid. This was the greatest catastrophe in the history of Polish Himalayan mountaineering. The tragedy took place at Lho La, a high pass separating Khumbu and Rongbuk glaciers.

Wow very interesting expedition. So the year he finally returned to climbing, Rob Hall dies on the mountain he had nearly died on. Then he ultimately dies on a mountain over a decade later. Crazy how the mountains usually win one way or another.

With the greatest respect may I say that although your English is excellent, your accent is still very strong. I’m familiar with your accent however I am struggling a little bit to keep up with facts. I appreciate Sir, that you most likely speak several languages, and as I mentioned, your English is excellent, but for me, I appreciate the subtitles. Maybe it’s my settings, I’ll check.

When I listen to these mountaineering tragedies it is most likely for a climber to die than not depending on how frequent such dangerous mountains are climbed. Of course your chances for survival are greater when experienced but one day a climbed mountain can be that specific one too many.

Unfortunately the only survivor from the Lho La tragedy - the youngest climber Andrzej Marciniak eventually died in mountains too. He died at the age of 50 (like Eugeniusz Chrobak) in Tatra Mountains on Slovakian side during climbing on August 7th 2009. 20 years after the Lho La tragedy...
