I am from Germany and I would say we are quite strict in certain things, for sure. And I think especially in sports German clubs are quite focused. For myself, I did a year abroad in Australia and I loved the open and friendly culture there and since then I feel like Germans are mostly focused on themselves
and just care if they have a deeper connection with someone. Of course not everybody is/feels like that.
Christina Becker I mostly agree. It takes longer for people to warm up to foreigners or others in general. But after that “hurdle” I think us Germans are quite open minded. At least where I’m from.
I actually had the complete opposite experience when I spent some time abroad in England. The people there weren’t really welcoming and I had a hard time, but I guess I didn’t have luck with my guest family or something. Others had a great experience in other towns.

@@jofuji8255 I was often in Britain and I have to say besides the German and the french wasn’t not the favourite visitors, is was before brexit votum not so rude or easy to spot as it is now. But I still love London and Scotland as well.
With the who put the moves on who first. I can believe that it was all Viv, but only because when Lisa arrived at Bayern Viv was 18 years old and had a boyfriend (26 year old team mate of Viv's brother). Lisa was a very out and open lesbian and would have been conscious of the age gap and that Viv appeared straight at that time. Even if she was attracted to Viv at that time there is no way Lisa would have put the moves on someone who was so young and apparently straight. Thinking about how long it was between the relationship starting (Sept 2015 confirmed by Viv saying it was Oktoberfest) and the pictures of them together starting to appear I am guessing that was the time when Viv came out to family and friends. Right from them going public it was clear that both families fully supported and accepted them. We know from posts on Lisa's Instagram posts in November 2015 that Lisa's close friends knew about the relationship but kept it low key and not making it obvious that they knew about and supported the relationship probably because that early in the relationship it was possible that Viv hadn't come out to her family and friends at that point, I would guess though that Lisa had said to Viv that a relationship would only work if Viv came out to her family as Lisa would not hide the relationship indefinitely and was very publicly known as being a lesbian.
I was kind of shocked that Viv made the first move. Lisa just seems like she would be much less shy about asking someone out (IMHO).
@@elccollins99 when you factor in that Viv was 18 when Lisa joined Bayern and had a boyfriend and Lisa had just had her 23rd Birthday it doesn't surprise me that Lisa didn't make a move on Viv.

I was really surprised by Viv's Scotish accent, but it's understandable when being together with Lisa and also quarantining together in Scotland.
I'm from Austria and the German mentality is usually quite strict, especially when it comes to a club like Bayern, which is, at least what men's football is concerned, the top address in the Bundesliga. Also Bavaria has the reputation of being the most conservative German province.
I also listen to German LGBTIQ podcasts and according to them coming out in Bavaria is for many very difficult, especially in the very Catholic countryside.
Ohhh!! that is very interesting!! I know even here in the states The North Carolina courage in the past refused to participate in LGBT pride night and such and they were not gay friendly at all (now its getting better) and I was told that was due to the owner being Conservative and the team being in the south. Just goes to show whoever is running each teams let bias out in the coaching which is unfortunate but not surprising.

I thought the “date night” question was interesting. Viv talked about watching more football and Lisa talked about meeting up with friends. The Arsenal girls seem like a pretty social group, I wonder if Viv and Lisa go out with the rest of the team?
I’m a bit late on this but I don’t think it was necessarily the German way of life that is so strict, I think it has a lot to do with being in Munich and Bavaria in general. The north of Germany is very different and much more open, however I can imagine it was also just the football surroundings and the trainer that kept Lisa in check.
I agree partly with u. In this case it’s a special thing of bayern Munich, they are in all teams (Even basketball etc) very strict. But it‘s a habit in Germany the coaches are more strict and harder. I played and worked in am. football for different teams in Europe and some in Germany (north, middle and south) and with the German and American coaches/ assistants I had the hardest times for sure. (Best time I did have in Scotland... and yea it’s a wonderful country).
Fun fact... the interviewer is Katie's girlfriend's twin sister... Katie was 1st up on the podcast and it's also worth a listen.
Lisa has known Shebahn (interviewer) since Lisa was a teenager playing at Glasgow City with Ruesha (Katie's girlfriend). Viv and Lisa have looked after Shebahn's twins a few times before lockdown. I think that's why this interview is so good and relaxed, because it was just three friends chatting as opposed to a formal structured interview.

I'm from Holland, football is the biggest sport here but the regular club competition the eredivisie for women is not very popular yet. But it is growing and a lot of international players and players from the oranjeleeuwinnen are coming to the clubs here. The national team is way more popular, the players almost every person knows (even when they don't follow women's football) are viv and also lieke martens.
I so want to go see a game there! I have a family friend from the Netherlands she is the sweetest toughest person I know.

Its good to know that Most everyone know the big players on the national team that sounds like here in America most ppl can tell you Alex megan maybe Carli. Its just so sad women sport around the world is not respected overall. I think its changing which is so awesome!
I'm from Germany.
I've played soccer for almost 10 years now and I would say that coaches can be quite strict because they want us to succeed. Germans are also very uptight and focused on mostly themselves. If you are a bit bubbly like Lisa I can imagine it being quite hard to fit in at a club like Bayern Munich because it's a club that's focused on throphys and succes.
I am from Scotland and Scotland is amazing and got incredible views, sheep's and others stuffs. Also they are more friendly including Scotland women team. I totally understood where is Lisa coming from because being in Germany are litterly different from Scotland. Germany can be more strictly, focused and high standards performance. In Scotland and London are more friendly, fun and open minded and have a great laugh with fun games in training and open to LGBT community as well. Just like Arsenal did Halloween costumes on the training day aha!
Different parts of scotland have stronger accents than the rest like aberdeen has a stronger accent to glasgow

I am from Germany and I don‘t thimk everybody in Germany is that strict. I play football myself and we are a really crazy team. And i think if you look at Lina Magull from Bayern Munich she makes fun all the time. So it must be the choach.
There is a different coach at Bayern to the one when Viv and Lisa were there, the previous coach did come across as very strict and as a result a lot of more outgoing (loud & fun) players left during that period (Eunice Beckmann, Laura Feiersinger, Vero Bouquete, Mana Iwabuchi) there does seem to be a more relaxed vibe amongst the Bayern team now and that has to be a good thing.
@marcus grey Definitely does seem a more fun place to play now, it must have been especially tough for Lisa at Bayern as although her coach at Potsdam was strict with regard to training he allowed the players to be themselves so that wasn't a problem. The Bayern coach at that time always came across as super strict and controlling which was never going to work with the more outgoing and fun players.
@marcus grey I don't think it helped either that the Bayern coach was obsessed with playing defensively with counter attacks given the players he had when Lisa moved there, it seemed that in the course of the two years Lisa was there and as her and Viv moved to Arsenal almost all of the really creative more attacking minded players left. The Bundesliga is looking in a better place playing style so far this season and I hope it continues that way.
@marcus grey I know, especially when you looked at the squad at Bayern when Lisa moved there, it was full of creative and attacking minded players so to defend most of the game and just hope to score on counter attacks was just crazy. In contrast at Potsdam Lisa was given the freedom to express herself and the playing style was very fluid like it is at Arsenal where most analysts say Lisa is crucial to that style because of how she reads the game and seems to be able to predict where players are going to be that it creates so much space for the rest of the team to be more open and attacking. I like to turn commentary off and just watch the game and see how the players move on and off the ball, it gives a true perspective of what's going on rather than just listening to a dialogue that only says about who is on the ball.

In our cricket t20 against New Zealand two of the players have a baby well under 2 I think they have her with them our women's cricket team is just as or even more popular than the men's team! Poor Alex Morgan left on the bench all match showed vision of freezing her well off? T s the spurs lost stay safe etc👍👍👍👍👍🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
I was lucky enough to go to the t20 game on Sunday. The girls were giving each other grief or hanging s%$t. It was a good game but with the crowd was sparse which is odd.

They didn't show much pda in public which is not the most important thing btw but relationship wise I hope they stay together forever. Football wise? They gonna be huge one day.
Their body language and the way that they look at each other leaves no doubt that they are in love. Not being people who put on lots of pdas means there can be no one complaining about them making people uncomfortable and actually makes their relationship just a normal loved up couple without anyone focusing on their gender. They just do them being their selves and it really shows that love is love without making it about being a same sex couple.
They seem both on the same page with each other! THey are adorable! it also seems like Fame wont get to them like it could in some couples. They are soulmates!
Viv is already world class. Lisa has been voted most under-rated player, by Arsenal fans. Plus... Viv's forward roll at the WWC 2019!
I always find it funny that people mainly say about how good Viv is and forget that Lisa was a huge star in Germany before she moved to Bayern and met Viv. Also for Arsenal fans that think Lisa was only signed because she's Viv's girlfriend, they should know that their club had been trying to sign Lisa from 2012 onwards so it could be argued that it was more a case of Viv being signed because she's Lisa's girlfriend.
For the question is it German or the coach I think the answer is a mix. Because I‘m from Germany and play soccer too. Sport in Germany is very strict and you have to be disciplined. You can have fun but you always have to be focused on the game. But you can dance or have fun at the training but then when your have a bad day or a bad game often the trainer say don’t dance, don’t make jokes...
