Charlotte quite literally gives me life!! 💃🏼🤩 But seriously, this vlog was brilliant to watch! The amount of details that you always give us Shawn, definitely doesn't go unnoticed!! 👏🏼🫡 Thank you both for bringing us along all of your journeys around the world!! 🌍❤
I just wanna say when you were walking around Rome and showing the Colosseum you and Charlotte are one of the best bloggers you’re very descriptive and I love the detail that you give you’re my number one choice there’s other bloggers online as well that do the theme parks, and that kind of thing like ordinary adventuresbut you guys are my number one choice
The Colosseum is an incredible place. Been myself, and it was really worth paying the extra for a guide because you find out exactly what things were for. Whilst it is a stunning structure, it can never be described as beautiful. It was a place of unspeakable brutality. When you consider how many people were killed in there over the years, a figure estimated at approx. 400,000 it should be treated appropriately. The guides around the forum are a must if anyone wishes to go, the information they impart, and these are local historians and experts makes it one of the most interesting places in the world.
I do agree with you completely in regards to being cautious about how this structure is expressed in words!! You mentioned the number of people who were brutally murdered here & I was trying to remember the number we were told when we visited 6 years ago. If I'm not mistaking, it was closer to, at minimum, half a million people who were killed here! But also, over 1 million animals were brutally killed inside The Colosseum as well! I think that speaks to the original part of my comment with regards to being cautious about the words chosen to represent The Colosseum. Nonetheless, it is a fascinating structure to see! I think for me, there's a couple of things that make this experience so unique. The amount of years ago that this structure was built is crazy when you think about it! But also, the fact we can still, to this very day, touch & walk across this piece of history, is pretty phenomenal. With the difference being that so many other artifacts in history that we read & learn about, we'll only get to do just that- learn while reading. To me, that's one of the main reasons that seeing The Colosseum in person is an absolute must do if given the opportunity! ✌🏻
Rome is beautiful 😍 we spent a wonderful week there & loved how accessible everything is. It was so hot 🥵 though. We used to go out early, come back for r&r and air con & then go out again in the evening! Great vlog 🇮🇹
I loved exploring Rome. Such an amazing city with so many amazing things to see. All that work going on around the Colosseum and the big white building is for a new metro line. It's taking far longer than expected as they keep coming accross all sorts of history. I too went in July when it was really hot so those free drink fountains are fantastic.
Great vlog shawn. I liked your videos. It brought me back memories from 2020. I went to every place you went to. I would like to go back to Rome one day. Its so beautiful at this amazing city. Hope you enjoyed your day there. Thanks for bringing us all the amazing content for UA-cam.
I have been waiting for this one! What a great way to end your honeymoon. I love Rome. 🇮🇹 The Forum is my favorite spot, and the Colosseum is a close second. It was great to see them again with you. Glad to see you back on this channel. I would be interested to see a video about what you have learned over your epic travels this summer.❤
46:11 Fun fact: That black square at the top of the Archway used to be the entrance to a barber shop in the Middle Ages. No, they didn't have to climb up there; tons of sand, dirt and rocks covered up the whole Forum Romanum area during the past centuries. So back when it was a barbershop that tiny-looking entrance was on streetlevel and underneath it was the full Forum Romanum without them knowing it.
I'm so happy you guys are seeing the beautiful Roman sights I hope you enjoyed as my as me and my partner did, We went to rome in November 3 years ago it's alot less busy then so you can enjoy the sights more, When we went to the trevi for the first time in the morning there were only 3 other people there it was lovely we could appreciate it alot more, I'm like Charlotte watching Sabrina and the Lizzie films made me want to go to Rome, One of the most annoying scams we had was the friendship bracelet men they will try to grab your wrist by shaking your hand and will place the bracelet on and demand money some get very aggressive, I can't believe that person left their phone unattended 😮, Shame you couldn't spend longer walking around Rome
The coliseum has one of the earliest elevator systems on the planet and the terrain switch system. The arena floor would open up and change into two modes a flat arena with injury traps everywhere or a chariot racing track depending on the day. The traps could also individually be raised or lowered as needed. The current state of the coliseum is that you see the underground maze that gladiators used to get ready and the workers getting dangerous animals to the floor. The actual ready rooms were on the cardinal directions north and south. The floor and doors have long since rotted away.
"It's such an old movie . . . . from the early 2000s" . OMG ! - you youngsters ! That's only a few years ago to me ! The Audrey Hepburn film "Roman Holiday" is what I'd call an old movie !!
Amazing place! I was there in July 1989 ,it was over 100F that day too. Was also in Athens Greece that summer, another great city to tour ancient buildings :)
Rome looks incredible definitely a place me and my husband want to visit cant wait for your other vlogs looks like you had an amazing time glad you both had an amazing honeymoon 💖 love both your channels
Lovely vlog as always. We visited Rome last year but unfortunately it was a national holiday so was too busy to get tickets for the colosseum. So thank you for the tour ❤
I've visited the largest colosseum in North Africa in Tunisia called El Jem, that place is just as impressive though a tad smaller than the one in Rome, still a great place to visit 😊
That VLOG has put Rome high up on my list of bucket list places to go to. It looks amazing and so refreshing to see after the all the theme parks. Thanks so much. Quick question which would you sooner visit, Dubai or Rome?
Great video. Do you know which is the link to the official website for the colosseum tickets? as going next month and as you said theres so many different ones!
I had my 1st wonderful spaghetti in Rome and the poor gentleman on the table opposite, was struggling in a WHITE shirt bless him. At least he tried and didn't cut it up he ate it like an Italian
There is a roman stadium in Nimes which is basically fully intact that is actually used for concerts. Can't really do that at the Colosseum, might put a stage up outside so its used as a backdrop
I saw someone dressed as King Julien outside of the the palace in Aranjuez (outside of Madrid) back in 2022. Don't think its as common outside of Time Square in the US. Maybe LA or New Orleans, but I think a lot of that is just busking
I think the giant McDonalds/Minions poster next to the Trevi Fountain was a real shame. Rome should have rules over things like that. Love your video's, surprised you didn't say anything with your love of history and architecture.
Those statue heads are actually past champions of the coliseum. Unfortunately their names are lost to time. Arenas always had a hall of champions somewhere inside. The warriors of coliseum were of many nationalities hence the different faces. You saw Roman, Egyptian, Persian, and number of early gothic or English faces. Boudicca herself was immortalized by fighting Rome in Britain. The people at Ubisoft were out in Rome and Egypt a number of years ago to do very detailed scans of the ancient monuments. They actually analyzed them and fully virtually reconstructed a very plausible picture of the ancient sites of how they were used and possibly may have looked. The teams at Ubisoft were in Japan especially Iga prefecture in the center of Japan two years ago scanning various shrines and reconstructing villages. They are supposed to head to England next for the Hexe project which will scan sites of the English witch scare.

Rome has a lot of history especially during the height of the renaissance. It was the Borgia vs the Medici in all out war. The Borgia lost most of their power with most of them dying and lucuzia becoming a political plaything of the Italian nobility. Ceasere the leader was banished to Spain and him dying in battle with Italian forces. The pope at the time was either killed by ceasere or banished off the seat as history just says he was replaced. The renaissance also brought the book burning and rebellion which was put down quickly over a year. Rome has gone through a lot but has recovered. It’s never peaceful for too long in Rome.
Walking around Rome, in July, in 40 degree heat, bumping into headless chicken tourists who are fixating on taking the best ever selfie, is my absolute WORST nightmare.

Where's Maximus from gladiator I loved that movie

Wonderful Hope you had an amazing honeymoon xxx

The Trevi fountain looks as good as it does because fashion houses FENDI and VERSACE spent millions $$$ restoring it about 12-15 years ago.
Hi Charlotte I’ve seen Lizzie McGuire movie it’s really good and it’s on Disney+ i might watch it again at some point Hilary Duff so funny
