- This video can be used to test 5.1 Channel configuration and the test goes as follows:
Phase 1: Inclusive Test, 00:00.00 - 00:58.60
1. 00:00.00 - 00:09.60: Left (L) Channel Only, [L]
2. 00:09.60 - 00:19.20: Right (R) Channel Only, [R]
3. 00:19:20 - 00:28.80: Center (C) Channel Only, [C]
4. 00:28.80 - 00:38.40: Subwoofer (LFE) Channel Only, [LFE]
5. 00:38.40 - 00:48.00: Surround Left (SL) Channel Only, [SL]
6. 00:48.00 - 00:58.60: Surround Right (SR) Channel Only, [SR]
Phase 2: All Channel Test, 00:58.60 - 01:57.20, All Channels [(L), (R), (C), (LFE), (SL), (SR)]
Phase 3: Exclusive Test, 01:57.20 - 02:55.80

Unfortunately UA-cam stopped streaming surround sound (5.1) some time in 2019, so this clip will actually be stereo. If you play the clip you will find the sound coming out of all of your 5.1 system speakers. I do not blame the person uploading who will have taken time and care to create a 5.1 clip BUT UA-cam must face criticism for not telling them that the sound will be downgraded to basic stereo. You cannot easily test 5.1 Channel configuration using UA-cam content, all those beautiful Dolby Atmos clips are also just stereo now unless uploaded by paying companies (for advertising) such as Dolby itself!
edit note: PLEASE NOTE - MY REPLY ABOVE WAS POSTED SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND THINGS CHANGE. THERE IS NOW (in 2024) considerable 5.1 surround content as well as 7.1 and Dolby Atmos. Replies to my post above, for example from Nuna07ngente, claiming UA-cam has not stopped, or that I am simply wrong should recognise timing. UA-cam appears to change policies and handling, so for a period of time it downgraded audio on some clips or for some users/markets and the policy has since changed. This is why it is advisable to look at the age of any content ! :) thanks

No problem if u have a good atmos receiver, those atmos trailer still rocks using DS upmix mode. But these kind of creepy test videos sucks on upmix becoz of poor virtualization.

It is NOT soothing! My computer will get them to play on the test tones correctly. But on YT I'm outta luck. What I get for trying to add a fairly new Vizio smart TV from the trash. LG monitors and Sony 5.1 sound don't like it.

lol bro as others have stated above this is only stereo it's a down mix there's no surround sound on UA-cam so I don't know what did you believe to hear

Just tested my setup thanks, works 100%. Now I am sure its the netflix app on my tv. Have to change from 5.1 english original to english original. As I hear a weird vibration, humming sound on 5.1

Even without the rear speakers working (UA-cam's fault, not the video creator), this sounded amazing.
My Cinemate, S1 reflective surrounds came on when called for.
I have a 5.1 surround enabled PC which works fine for movies played through file manager, VLC player etc, also works fine in Realtek audio manager, but when I run your UA-cam test video the rear channels play through the front speakers. Nothing comes out of the rear speakers at all. Is there a way around this? Thanks.
There's nothing wrong with your setup. This video is misleading, UA-cam doesn't support surround sound, only stereo.

@@1979Weasel I tried this clip through my XBOX one that has the audio connected via fibre direct into a hi-end £2000 Denon receiver, this works fine on other streaming services that supply 5.1, BluRay and games etc, so it's 100% this file/UA-cam nothing else that's not working.

This is actually great for those of us that use Dolby Pro Logic and virtual 5.1/7.1 inputs. A lot of systems can upscale to 5.1/7.1 these days. Plus I love the music!!

I will fix this issue hopefully before an answer. For a Sony 5.1 Blue ray player, I forget....I send tunes to it from PC mostly. I'm thinking the unit does not want windows adjusting anything. That the Sony is the boss. I sick of restarting. Geez I just wanted to reposition things!
@@AF_1892 There's two major problems:
1. the original song was released in stereo sound (studios often downmix audio for music and music videos)
2. If you had access to the original 5.1, then you would have to decode it. Sony and Dolby make it a royal pain in the ass to encode/decode 5.1 audio. If indies could stop the infighting long enough, maybe they could come up with an alternative like they did Creative Commons. Trust me, setting a DAW to 5.1 takes up plenty of audio bandwidth alone, and then the encoding requires special software that's usually Mac-only. Many software decoders can decode DVD tracks into an AAC file, but you would still need access to the raw 5.1 files.
That's what really bummed me out when Sony bought out SRS Labs. SRS was supposed to be an alternative technology that could provide surround sound with any speaker set, and they were fairly unrestricted in their use. They encouraged people and manufacturers to try SRS. The music industry just couldn't let us have anything easily. @@AF_1892

the sound is not coming separately for rear and center speaker. But sound comes from all speaker together.
Yes, UA-cam stopped streaming surround sound a while ago. All clips will be stereo at best. I do not blame the people posting clips as they may have uploaded a clip with 5.1 sound, unfortunately UA-cam will have downgraded to stereo so it will not work. I hate to think of the number of people using the clip who think their soundbar is broken. UA-cam must be criticised for allowing all the Dolby Atmos clips etc to remain, which now no longer actually work!

Sounds great to me. UA-cam it does support 5.1 channel , super happy sounds, and beautiful sounds splitting in my 5 speakers and subwofer as well.

Thanks for uploading this even its downgraded to stereo but you can test 2.1
This video works fine. I tested my Sony HT-S20R 5.1 home theater. The sound came through the speakers individually as shown in the video. So I would recommend to use this for any 5.1 testing.

2023 I have a Bose Cinemate, I guess you can call it a S1. It done, a good job with my “surround”. Like was said, it was pleasant and good quality “considering compression”. Man, I live an compromised, life. But I do enjoy the Bosey sound, and the old school Bose, is just plug and go. Not too many adjustments, if any, only speaker, adjustments.

you can get still get something out of UA-cams that started live in

looks like this video works if you use Dolby pro logic for your surround sound, but it is in stereo if you use Dolby digital or DTS. I just rewired my home theater and was going through all my HDMI cables to figure out which one was not fast enough for surround sound. This video was making me crazy!

youtube does not support 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound formats, it will play surround speakers sound on front speakers !

Correct. MY ONkyo 646 is playing both front and the rear surrounds with this. either left or right . The sound will not isolate to the surround speakers.

This sound experience is amazing
If your speakers work fine with videos/audio on your PC, but you are using Chrome, chances are only your front speakers work. I added "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --try-supported-channel-layouts to the Target in the Google Chrome application shortcut and it works for me. Try googling 5.1 not working on Chrome to find solutions.

UA-cam's 5.1 surround sound is only available for streaming TV and movie content, unlike the typical UA-cam videos (which only feed audio into two channels)

@@HoundDogMech Your actual Speaker doesn't matter (as long as it any supports kind of Surround Sound, though your Sound Bar only supports fake/virtual surround sound). What really matters is the device or platform you're using for playback. e.g. UA-cam itself supports 5.1 Surround (not sure about 7.1, but I guess it does), but most browsers on Windows don't do anything else than Stereo. There are multiple methods that worked in the past or are still working to make Chrome, Opera and other Browsers play Surround Sound. I was only able to make them play surround sound on other websites, but not on youtube. But I was able to play UA-cam Videos, that were uploaded with surround sound, using Players like PotPlayer. It's also possible to download such videos with tools like youtube-dl and play them locally in surround.
I also read that App-based Plattforms will play UA-cam Videos in Surround, e.g. consoles like the PS4.
To summarize it: UA-cam DOES support Surround Sound, when the specific video got uploaded with surround sound. It mostly depends on the Software that plays the Video.
Maybe your Sound Bar supports Bluetooth? Try to connect your smartphone and play a youtube video from it and listen if it plays in Surround?

When I plar this the same thing comes out of left Right but all sound except center & LFE come out of both Surround speakers Same as Front left or front Right Go Figure.

@@legitpixel6966 No it does not. A simple search will tell you this that UA-cam is only stereo and my receiver proves it by stating that pro logic is enabled (Fake 5.1)

This is not real. It's a 5.1 surround test uploaded in stereo! However UA-cam can in fact encode genuine 5.1 surround sound using the E-AC3 codec. @5.1MusicChannel has lots of surround music clips. Definitely works on my system. Make sure the surround sound option is checked in the clip settings.

Through You tube you can only justify or hear 2.1 channel. You tube has no facility to deliver more than 2.1 effect. What ever the file you upload all those will be telecast or the output will resume only to stereo mode.
