Spiderbeam's Light 7m Antenna Mast Review.

  • Just like its big brother the Spiderbeam 12m mast, which I have been using for years and almost every time I operate portable, the much lighter and shorter (collapsed) 7m model does not disappoint. There is a 10m model also. Those two are perfect for traveling, much stronger than a fishing pole while still quite affordable. Thumbs up from me!

    Two things.
    1. UA-cam isn't notifiying me when you put out a new video, seems like I've missed a LOT of your videos - this bothers me, since I really enjoy your videos.
    2. THANKS for doing this review, I'd been considering buying a fishing pole, however, not any longer, looks like it will be a Spiderbeam for me now.

    Greetings from Lake of Constance ! I use a 12m glas fibre mast also. Lenth makes sense, as the feeding point of let's say a half wave, end fed antenna for 10m band = 5,3m vertical beam , needs to be a quarter wave lenth above ground plus some reserve for fixing the antenna at the top. In total approx. 9m required out of ( theoretically) 12m mast length. Note, the top segment is missing rigidity because of small diameter.
    Conclusion: anything shorter than 12 mast is not satisfactory.

    • @richardwesterman5773
      @richardwesterman5773 3 роки тому +1

      Your conclusion is misleading. It all depends on what antenna one wishes to use. It sounds to me like you are building too heavy antennas for use with Spiderpoles. I hang a 6-Band dipole on my 12m pole at 11m height. See: www.dj0ip.de/wrtc-2018/my-wrtc-2018/

    You keep spending my money. I seem to have a MAS problem (Mast Acquisition Syndrome) and missed this one, I have the SOTABeams Carbon6 that lives in my backpack because it fits in my backpack, but it bends so much. I can strap this 7m mast to the other side of my backpack, I just made a sheath for my CHA MilWhips and spike (V1, I’ve had it for years and rediscovered it this year).

    Great looking mast. Still way to expensive for me. You can get 9m fishing pole for ~20€. Which makes ~8.2m mast (without top section). Granted not as portable since it's typically 114cm collapsed. But it's still the best option for people on a budget. There's one caviat though. You do need to pay atention to "casting weight" when buying one. And compare it to weight of the cable you intend to use. My personal rule of thumb is that the weight of a cable should not exceed 2x max casting weight. So for example typical H05V-K 0.5mm2 weighs 8g per meter. So for 20m of it, we need fishing pole with minimum casting weight of 80g. In that case there's very little chance it'll break provided the pole itself is not mechanically damaged.

    Your antenna masts living in your car? I don't think so! You have reported previously that automobiles in your parking area at your home/apartment have been burglarized. I own the 12 meter Spiderbeam and I really like it even though it is heavy and difficult to handle if you don't treat it respectfully. Great mast though. I would hate to lose it or the 7 meter mast that you now have me interested in buying. The pandemic, God willing, is subsiding and daddy wants to go outside and play radio. Great review. 73 de AE5ZX

    Hello Gil... the 10 metre pole is about twice the weight of the 7 meter pole (approx 2kg vs 1kg). If I need say only 8 metres, is it possible to remove sections easily from a 10 metre pole? Thus saving weight. As you say... collapsible length and price are not an issue. Thanks for the videos be the way! 73 Paulo, F5VMJ
