    Nice to see and done skilfully - but please add "Don't try this at home, kids!" 🙂 A technique that can be good for daysacks or light packs.
    As a former Para and personal trainer (REPs 3, done the thorough way - 6 months at proper college), I'd first point out that, with an infantry soldier's normal load, that's doable - but you'd run a real risk of unnecessary injury, which often shall be delayed onset.
    Unlike our proper load carrying rucksacks ('72 pattern SAS/Para bergens) which PLCE replaced (and fell short of), it matters how you put hard items into the sack. Hard, heavy items like Clansman 351 batteries can't just be thrown in, you need to ensure that they are padded against your back to prevent undue friction/injury. Which challenges the principle of keeping the heaviest weight against your back...
    Anyway, my point is that ANY lumps from hard items will definitely cause injury when the pack is donned in this manner. And sometimes, a rucksack carries ONLY hard, lumpy crap...
    Just a caveat for anyone trying this. You need a strong back to try this as shown - and even with a strong back, as you get old (like me), you are less likely to get away with it...

    Some other kid in Army Cadets taught me how to do this back when I was 14. Never gets old, boring or useless. Absolute satisfaction when you've done it enough times that you never get it wrong and it's never a fuck around.

    Does the weight of the bergen sit on the webbing? or do you also fasten the hip belt above your hips/the webbing?

    • @scouseoutdoors5649
      @scouseoutdoors5649  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi mate, thanks for the comment. With the webbing, the weight is on the shoulders as there is no hip support/ and the bergen sits on the webbing so all combined weight is on the back/ shoulders and subsequently, your knees. The hip pad on the bergen sits around the kidneys but when fastened, it does help stabilise the weight in against your back, so again, even the bergen on its own rides on the back and shoulders whereas, a decent civvi hiking pack is designed to sit away from the back and the weight distributed between the shoulders and hips.
      With the infantry set up, it's more for load carrying rather than comfort. Does that help?

      @@scouseoutdoors5649 That's exactly the answer I've been looking for. Would you also carry an 'assault/day pack' for lighter carry with the webbing, or would you just run the webbing needed to be more mobile/engage an enemy force?
      Thanks for the quick response!

      @@Gideon920great, glad it helped. I also use a British army northern Ireland patrol pack (35 litre and it's a great piece of kit) though I don't use it for military applications but for an overnight wild camp, it works as a great set up. I suppose in a contact situation, the bergen would be thrown to the side and stashed for the reasons you've mentioned 👍🏻

    Hey, how is the back hip support on that thing? A lot of civilian bags come with some kind of metal structure.

    • @scouseoutdoors5649
      @scouseoutdoors5649  10 місяців тому

      Hey, thanks for the question. OK so the main difference between the bergen and a civilian pack is night and day. A normal hiking pack is designed for comfort more than load bearing and the hip support on a civvy pack is designed to distribute the overall weight onto the hip and away from the back. The hip support on the bergen doesn't really sit on the hip, more so the kidneys. The bergen forms part of a wider PLC (personal load carrying) system and would normally sit on top of the webbing yoke so the pouches on the webbing would take some of the weight sitting directly underneath. As far as carrying it goes, when you sinch the shoulder straps in place, I find it's sits firm but as far as hip support goes, I can tell you that there isn't any. All weight carried by an infantry soldier is carried directly on the back and shoulders. Anatomical torture lol but they are a durable and relatively cheap bit of kit!
      Anyway I hope that has answered your question.
      Thanks for stopping by 👍

    Hey, nicht. I got a short question. Up till this Video I' think you can wear the webbing online by using the short back bergan. But I think you wear a long back bergan with the webbing. Is this an option with long back bergan. Do it work?

      It depends on your height mate, I am 5ft 10 and so the long back with the webbing works perfectly well for me as seen in the video. The bergen is designed to sit further up the back anyway to accommodate a webbing belt. It really does depend on your height from what I understand.

      Manuel:
      When the army adopted the PLCE system, the official advice was that Longback was for soldiers 5'11" (180cm) or over and Shortback for people shorter than this. However, everyone's different so it's better to go by back length (top of shoulders to hips) - best done with the help of a friend and a tape measure. I was 172cm tall and needed BOTH sizes: Longback WITHOUT webbing ("CEFO"), Shortback when wearing webbing.
      I was issued the Longback which was impossible to wear with ANY comfort with webbing and had to buy my Shortback. But, without webbing, the Shortback accelerated fatigue and aches and was never as comfortable as the Longback. I handed in my Shortback when I left service and STILL use my Longback for shopping - still going strong after over 30 years! (I don't wear webbing anymore 😊.
      And don't apologise for being Deutsch - no need. Besides, "Tommies", today, like "Jerries" - and their engineering.
