Lammy has the most realistic way of speaking. All the other characters speak like over excited videogame characters (crazy, I know) but Lammy just sounds like a regular girl. Something about that makes her a much more endearing character
It looks like Sony thought “UmJammerLammy” was going to be a worldwide, iconic classic if they put this much effort in promotion and extra content all for 1 game
It's so strange to think that there was so much content made for this game that barely anyone ever saw. over 20 years later and i'm only JUST now seeing this, even after being such a fan of the game back then. great stuff!
It's bizarre that this machine was never even intended to leave Japan too. If it wasn't for the person who grabbed one of these cabinets we'd probably NEVER have gotten to see any of this
As I recall, back then, the interviews were short, 20-30 second clips (this was before UA-cam) that you could just download in your browser. Like, it would have the question written out, and then "Lammy_Responce1.mov" or whatever the files were called, in whatever format was popular at the time. Like the laptop answer did _not_ lead in to the commercial segment, it just ended. Every single kilobyte in bandwidth counted in those days, and these videos were seriously tiny and optimized. I had them all saved, but then lost them all in a computer crash... :( You see, "colon parenthesis" is what we used to type, because no emojis existed at the time. 🤘🎸👩🎤🤘
It’s insane how much world building Lammy had for the time, especially for how somewhat niche it would end up becoming. Here I was I thinking that the guide books were like the best of the best for learning about the characters and stuff but these cutscenes filled a void in my soul I didn’t even know was there.
There was a surprising amount of stuff made for Lammy. For some reason, there's an insane amount of Lammy merchandise. Not only do you have normal stuff like plushies, keychains, clothing, toys. . You also had stuff like shot glasses, alarm clocks, actual guitars, guitar lesson books, and even rings. I always wondered why there was so much merchandise for such a niche game
@@Don_Porculio good luck on your search man, unboxed Lammy merch of that caliber is so hard to find. I have the shot glasses still in their packaging and not being able to use them makes me so sad sometimes
There's even more than that. The character on Lammy's shirt may be a reference to a character, Stinkabod, from a previous game of Rodney Greenblat's called Dazzeloids: ua-cam.com/video/iR2k81L1gRA/v-deo.html
I love how the How To Play sequence is in Japanese but the rest of the game is in English I also love how it's now canon that Joe Chin just rules over everything on TV

The Got to Move video has been posted onto UA-cam a long, *long* while ago, but there was no source for it, so people assumed that it was fanmade, because of the more laminated paper look to the characters. It's really interesting to know that it is an official music video from the cabinet version of Um Jammer Lammy.
It always amazed me that out of the three main characters of this game, the voice actress that went on to be on Broadway (Spamalot, I think) didn't get to do any singing in this franchise. As for this game, that was a lot of great Joe Chin stuff that would otherwise have been lost to time had this game not been preserved. He's the unsung comic relief of this franchise, and he'd only be relegated to a couple scenes here and there in the Parappa game trilogy without these. You have our undying thanks.
Sara Ramirez was also Dr. Calle Torrez on Grey’s Anatomy. They came out as non binary later in life too. It would be interesting if Sara would ever do another Lammy or Parappa project again. It’s sad that Katy’s VA passed away.
Its amazing to me that they want all aboard with making the extra material for the arcade conversion, when DDR, Beatmania and other games, were just showing you a demo of the game, title and the scoreboard. I think this is my favorite attract loop
It's so weird seeing how much Parappa/UJL media existed back in the 90s and early 2000s, especially when I assume a lot of the games' fans (including myself) barely knew about this series until less than 10 years ago
You should post this in the lostmedia and obscuremedia subreddits. Great work this is awesome. I picked up a copy of the ps1 game for 4 dollars at a pawn shop like 5 years ago and it’s such a great game in a series of great games.
As a big fan of the Parappa series (UJL being my favorite), this is incredible to witness as there's been very little information online regarding this specific version. The commercial with Joe Chin's music store was funny and it was nice to see Rammy on level 1, as I previously heard she was intended to be playable at one point for that stage. Awesome upload!
I never knew this existed, nor did I know that Joe Chil and Chop Chop Master Onion share the same voice. I miss this series so much, Sony drops the ball on almost all of their properties that isn't God of War.

The fact that Lammy has her own interview, and that she revealed she: -May have trouble talking to people or looking at them in the eye -Almost often wakes up late -Gets shy often, even in a way she was talking to the camera I have a feeling that people (especially with autism) relate.
