Just as a heads up, DeDRM tools will not remove DRM for rented books, library books, Kindle Unlimited, books from your friend, or anything you don't own on Amazon. Brilliant!! Followed this for an old Dell Laptop running Win10 Very well explained with examples, complete coverage. I follwed your instructions explicitly. 1. De-registered the latest version of Kindle. I couldn't find V1.26 from Github, but I downloaded the V1.17 2. Installed that.Downloaded my Kindle books to a new "Content" folder. All books in one folder. 3. Updated my Calibre to latest version, created a new library folder. 4. Downloaded the DRM Tools v7.2.1. 5. Converted to EPUB as that's more universal Thanks so much.👍👍👍

worked like a charm! I left the kindle environment ages ago but could never convert a few books I left there. Now I can! I had to do the conversion with calibre in wine in linux. Thank you for your help on this.

The Plug-in on the calibre app needs to be connected to the Kindle app. If the kindle app is located in the separate directories for the emulated apps, then the plug-in may not be able to find its location. By using calibre with wine, you make the kindle and plug-in in the same directory, that way the plug-in can locate and connect to the kindle app. From this point, the operation can just be carried out in Wine, and then you can move the files out afterwards, but easier is to grab the locator file created by the plug-in in Wine, and use that for the non-Wine calibre app. The file just points to where the kindle app is located, and that's all that is needed. The Wine version of calibre can then be removed, and the operation can be done with the linux calibre.
Yes!! Thank you!. For anyone having issues with V1.17 I found advice from the Calibre team on what you need to do. I was trying to sign in with 1.17 but it wasn't working. Fix: 1) delete the content in the My Kindle Content folder. 2) Deregister V1.17 (if need be); I deleted the Kindle content first, then went to DeRegister V1.17 to find it was not registered; I then registered V1.17 and downloaded the content. 3) Start Calibre and import the Kindle book(s) and convert. Works perfectly!
Worse thing is using DRM crap they geoblock your access to book. Like you bought in Amazon US and moved to other country and bingo you can't access any of the books. So this is a very practical thing that you keep a DRM free copy as backup regardless. Plus if you wanna share your book with a friend or family like you can with physical book you can do that too.

Another way to do this, is by double-clicking the de-DRM plug in, you are then able to enter the serial number of an old Kindle e-reader. Have the ebook sent to the Ereader, then import the file into Calibre after connecting the Ereader to the computer with a USB cable.

After a little bit, I finally got it to work! Turns out you can’t do it with ebooks you’ve borrowed from the library 😅. But with Amazon bought books it still works as of July 2023!

Eric, I fixed the KFX-ZIP problem; but I'm not quite sure how? :) What I did was I deregistered and then uninstalled the version 'Kindle reader' I had installed on my PC. I then did everything in your video - installed Calibre and added the two plugins - but before I did anything else I deleted the folders in C:/users/"my name"/documents that said 'My Kndle Content' I then installed Kindle reader 1.17, registered it and then right clicked on the book thumbnail (in kindle 1.17) and re-download it! - it then came in as a AZW3 file rather than a KFX-ZIP file. (It seems the book remained as a KFX-ZIP on my PC until I manually deleted those folders and then manually asked to download the book) Thanks for all your help, Eric

good video it is saying that it is locked by drm. in the kindle content folder on my pc I have this file BOBTDVLPQF_EBOK. I do not see a .azw file in my kindle content folder. I have the plugs-in installed on calibre. I have kindle reader installed on my laptop. Any ideas what I am missing?
I have followed the steps and manage to remove the DRM lock, but regardless of the file format, I get lots of junk. So I get no clear text at all. Only the Cover page is as it should be but everything else is just rubbish text. I have tried installing different Kindle versions. I bought my book on amazon on 29.07.2023 and I can no longer use version 1.17 or 1.32 of the kindle app and download the book and the kindle app does not allow it, it asks to update to version 1.40 and when I use the current one, 1.40 the app EPUBOR can't decrypt and asks to downgrade to version 1.32 and so I can't get rid of the DRM. What do I do.
1) I added the DRM tools to Calibre but there are 3 .AZW files which will not convert. Nor can Epubor convert them. Any way it can be done with a tool giving more control. 2) I also got Kindle 1.17 but the very latest book I bought cannot be read by it! Amazon tells me to upgrade the reader to a more recent version
hey it didn't work for me. My Kindle file from 1.17 Windows Kindle has a file type of MOBI initially. The conversion to AZW3 does indeed work, however the encryption is still there when I try to view it. Any help?
Hi! Idk if you already solved this issue, but you can try converting this ebook using Epubor's Ultimate software to solve this. It worked to me on this matter.
Nothing in the DeDrm folder will populate in Calibre plugin upload. I did exactly what you said. Nothing is working. I'm going to the exact same links, and Calibre gives me an error saying no .pyi file is found in the folder.
Great video! Can you please do another video that shows how to remove the DRM on Kindle AZW with TOPAZ format? That is a format that CALIBRE doesn't recognize, even with the DeDRM plugin.
So I'm working on my graduate project and amazon decided to lock my account without warning for no reason. I could not access my books on kindle and received no communication of when my access would be restored. An account specialist was supposed to get a hold of me but never did. F these guys. I paid for the books I want to use them, especially now when I need them the most. I'm trying this out TODAY. I gladly pay for the content and support the creator but damn it if the middle man restricts access to something I own.

But there is one book (the one that got me here in the first place) that after removing DRM and converting to mobi (tried pdf also), I open it and it's the image from the cover and the rest is strange letter codes. I'm using 1.26 and it didn't work even with all the plugins I installed and everything. I wonde rif I'm picking the wrong zip folders but I don't think that I am I followed your video. It would be great if you could include some scenes in your video where you're going to the website from a blank tab and then also opening it up from a new windows explorer window rather than the preset windows you already have pulled up. Can you help me understand why it's not working? It's in a AZW file but when I run it through the converter it says it can't convert the file.
Is it just telling you that it can't convert the file? You could try using a different version. Some others in the comments have had success with 1.17 when 1.26 didn't work, for example.
the reazon 1.17 did not work is because you had a newer version installed ( I am assuming you did ) I had that happen and it wouldnt let me log in. But I had no problem using it in my vm machine :)

What if the hash is completely different? I have tried multiple kindle versions from different sites but the hash never aligns with the one from your site. Are they all corrupted?
Hello, I followed all of your instructions step by step. I reinstalled Kindel 1.17, the old model from Colibre, DeDMR, KFX. I blocked updates. Not only does it not work but I can't even delete the books I put on Colibie anymore. It says: SQLE Error. SQLE Error: not such module: fts5. Can you help me ? Thank you

But anyway, it's not working still... getting a popup that "this book is locked by DRM" (when copying from another device) or "Failed to open the book at..." (when copied from Kindle app on PC). Works perfectly on books published prior to January 2023. Anything newer it won't work for PC/MAC. I don't think this has been cracked yet

You can always just drop the hash into VirusTotal to see whether it does contain malware.
i'm really foreign to the subject but don't you need very big amounts of computation to modify a large a file and match the hash?
MobileRead is not a sketchy website though, it's the birthplace of Calibre and a bunch of other e-book software, they're pretty trustworthy
Well, got to the bottom of it. Just switched from Kindle ver. 1.33 to ver. 1.26 and it worked. It is tough job!!!!!

Just remember to disable the auto-update feature on your Kindle.

hey it didn't work for me. My Kindle file from 1.17 Windows Kindle has a file type of MOBI initially. The conversion to AZW3 does indeed work, however the encryption is still there when I try to view it. Any help?

Hi! Idk if you already solved this issue, but you can try converting this ebook using Epubor's Ultimate software to solve this. It worked to me on this matter.

Nothing in the DeDrm folder will populate in Calibre plugin upload. I did exactly what you said. Nothing is working. I'm going to the exact same links, and Calibre gives me an error saying no .pyi file is found in the folder.

Great video! Can you please do another video that shows how to remove the DRM on Kindle AZW with TOPAZ format? That is a format that CALIBRE doesn't recognize, even with the DeDRM plugin.
Found a Solution. You have to use older versions of Calibre (4.23) and DeDRM (6.8.1).
So I'm working on my graduate project and amazon decided to lock my account without warning for no reason. I could not access my books on kindle and received no communication of when my access would be restored. An account specialist was supposed to get a hold of me but never did. F these guys. I paid for the books I want to use them, especially now when I need them the most. I'm trying this out TODAY. I gladly pay for the content and support the creator but damn it if the middle man restricts access to something I own.

But there is one book (the one that got me here in the first place) that after removing DRM and converting to mobi (tried pdf also), I open it and it's the image from the cover and the rest is strange letter codes. If you know anything about it, I would be extra thankful XD

I'm using 1.26 and it didn't work even with all the plugins I installed and everything. I wonde rif I'm picking the wrong zip folders but I don't think that I am I followed your video. It would be great if you could include some scenes in your video where you're going to the website from a blank tab and then also opening it up from a new windows explorer window rather than the preset windows you already have pulled up.

Is it just telling you that it can't convert the file? You could try using a different version. Some others in the comments have had success with 1.17 when 1.26 didn't work, for example.
the reazon 1.17 did not work is because you had a newer version installed ( I am assuming you did ) I had that happen and it wouldnt let me log in. But I had no problem using it in my vm machine :)
the kfx can be installed officially too directly in the plugins

What if the hash is completely different? I have tried multiple kindle versions from different sites but the hash never aligns with the one from your site. Are they all corrupted?

Not only does it not work but I can't even delete the books I put on Colibie anymore. It says: SQLE Error. SQLE Error: not such module: fts5. Can you help me ? Thank you

Amazon et al do not sell books but rent them. They are not bought. This is the point to debate and criticize.
I tried, and tried, and tried this for hours a few months ago and it wouldn't work... gonna try again later today or tomorrow.. I hate how when you buy an ebook on amazon you don't actually own it.

Yes, as long as they're tied to your Amazon account it should work fine

But anyway, it's not working still... getting a popup that "this book is locked by DRM" (when copying from another device) or "Failed to open the book at..." (when copied from Kindle app on PC). Loosing my hope :/

you should use kfx format for your kindle as it is more superior than azw3

because you never bought the actual book as an ebook, but just the right to read it. if you buy a hardcover book, you really own it.
Crazy that you can't automatically download a book that you've bought. Doesn't make any sense
