Video is killer David, good work on the test too! My guess is that the first test you had you were on a good day and this test was on more of an off day power-wise. I know that from riding with you, your FTP is somewhere between those two numbers. You've gotten so strong, I am very excited to race with you this year!
Thanks Kanten! Your vids are a big influence on why and how I make mine. Regarding FTP, I think you're absolutely right in that I'm somewhere in between 300 and 330. It could have been a few reasons, but probably just an "off day" like you're saying. Based on my numbers from the gravel race a few days ago in Milano, I feel confident my ftp is >300. More on that soon to come.
as for the ftp test...there are pros and cons to indoor vs outdoor. however this season i'm doing my testing outdoor because i want to know my true potential to apply to races. my indoor potential is different. arguably it's lower inside because AC and a fan usually don't have the same power as the cooling effect of the wind on your full body. The trade off is that you really have to find the right road and conditions. I think the tail wind negatively impacted me as I spun out a few times. But no excuses! Either way, I recommend you do some FTP baseline testing to see where you're at at the start of the season. Then test again later to see progress! Keep ripping dude.
I have zero trainer miles :) But do think it would be the best controlled environment for testing. Knowing a baseline FTP is good, but knowing how you feel and why is a huge part too
