Incredible insight into childhood: bikes, people and music are just so 00s; real and pure, unrefined and so nostalgic. Kona bikes, Marzocchi Monster, proper showing knee and elbow pads.
@KokoSkuLL Rampage is one of the best things going in sports today ,raw ,cutting edge and lots of characters. Just hope it stays that way and doesn't get all plastic wrapped, pre programmed and confined like some sports I've watched grow since the 70s &80s . Mogul skiing for example long ago was judged on the guy who finished with the most hairy run and lost a ski and a pole but still finished with the biggest crowd roar. Rampage still has that but over time it will probably become as boring as some of those sports now.
Tippy is my fave...ever since Kranked 4 😤😤😤...Bourdon....then Super T....Dave Watson complete animal going hard !!!! 🔥....cheers to all the great riders in this video you all have inspired and moulded a new gen of mountain bike freeriders!!! ...Tippy for governor!!!!
Berrecloth has been a judge for the last bunch of years (Bender also), finished second in this edition, listen to his interview in the coverage here, it is an interesting reference. The problem is, the judges don't set the criteria, the sponsors do, so..... The thing I find most interesting is, the competitors changed locations between day 1 and 2, they had a few hours in the morning of day 2 to scout their lines and adapt them. No build team, no sandbags, no packing with water, pretty much just pick a line and ride it. That is FREERIDE....
Bender represents...everything. 2023 and I’ll never stop wanting more Bender. I should try to get an interview with him. I’d ask him about his biggest drops, because biggest loop-out bails and I’d ask him about the prick who kept yelling “Take it to the finals, Josh!”.
Come to here after see the last rampage, I was looking for real wild freeride. So sad they make a carpet this year, I’m dirt jump rider so a like it, but i miss to see this kind of rider doing that, something different that i use to do.
Send this to riders of the event today! I think they have forgot the core values and ideas! Just to have a two day comp runs and solid!! why have the comp in one day? always wind issues ...
Nothing like todays Rampage where they seem to cater to slopestyle tricking. No so much freeride and tough lines. Sad to see the direction the event has taken :(

Brett Tippie doesn't age, or change for that matter. Stays young forever!
All these runs by current judges would probably get them 10-20 points in 2024
Yes and a model T can’t win the Indy 500. Your point?
@@TheFullKanani Did you watch the comp this year? Free ride runs got scored worse in a free ride competition. You're missing a lot of context.
Should be interesting to have Darren's opinion on his 3rd place run as a juge
Evolution

I was there in 2002, what an incredible group of riders. Film does not capture how big the drops are or how steep the terrain is.
I Love how the lines back then weren't overly engineered, they looked more like natural features
Yess
Now THAT is Big Mountain Freeride!! Can we send Brendog back in time, maybe he could be judged properly.
Agree completely. It's unfortunately turned into a slopestyle event, no longer freeride.
they didn’t had water through out the mountain back then
People were less serious then and more happy. Times have changed.
20 years on, I enjoyed this more than 2022 Rampage. Full on, hardcore, good vibes.
Lance Canfield definitely for the best lines.
Difference after 20 years are incredible.
This sport has progressed so much. Stoked to be watching history be made every single year.
The judges from 2024 should be made to watch this video.
Remind them what the event was about
The hill doesn't even look the same. It's been manicured so much it's not that hard to T2B if you aren't doing tricks.

That is FREERIDE....
Well said. Completely agree. They should have Super T there as a judge!
they don’t care I don’t think. They judge well those runs that will get them the most clicks and shares online. Red Bull is a marketing company
2024 judges should re-watch this, lots of wisdom in there!
Here after Ryders made the interview to Tippie. Nice to see him fly.
This is absolutely epic
At 9:45 you have got a legendary moment, in which Bender himself says, he is scared af.
lmao thanks..love Bender..2021

Big oof coming in from this year
Holy crap, what a throwback. It's been 20 fucking years.
seems bikes back in the day couldnt handle a rampage compare to nowadays
This was actually better than 90% od 2024 edition. Freeride funky freaks. Not silly slopestyle session.
So sick! What's crazy is most people don't even know what they are watching.
Thank you for posting this video.
Thank you for this video! :) Wow, it brings me to my youth times!! :) :) so GREAT !!
It doesn't matter what the judges would give them today. They were at the forefront in 2002!
Old skool bikes! 😈🤘
real, fun freeride, minimal excavations.
Cedric was something else to watch.
Seeing Kyle Strait at 15 in this is wild. Now he's the "old man" in the event, lol
15:42 falls off a cliff and the photographer just gets out of his way and takes the shot
those orange sunglasses thoooo...glad its behind us
i just watched kyle strait compete in the 2024 version. thats insane!
Looks like gnarly freeride and no slopestyle at all. How far it's gone.. into something else.
Legends, then and now
Открылось еще одно воспоминание с детства ) Nostalgie effect
Before their time 'Atleast 10 differnt lines amongst the comp* so much more interesting
LOVE bike since i had 4 years old
.
I love to see how the sport has changed, back then these drops looked huge, but compared to today they are tiny 😂.
Brendog would not have been robbed at this one! Proper freeride going on here!!
Started off gnarly and now it’s neutered down with slopestyle. Monster should do their own since RedBull is failing.
Agree its like rampage turned gay and manicured its nails or smth
cool time!
bro said dont try this at home. I live here this is my home. Im going to do it
The bikes sure have came a long way! #BrettTippie4President
Gotta love the bug-eyed sunglasses lol I had about 5 pair of oakleys that look ridiculous now days.
So 20 years from now Rampage will be all asphalt and bubble wrapped. I can already see it now.
The ideal would be to start over on a different hill with shovels and watering pots. You know, freeride.
I like the Music
22 years ago does not seem that long ago.
golden era of rampage
So cool to see Darren Bearclaw take a Santa Cruz Bullit to the podium !
My '99 Bullit still feels better in the steeps than my Bronson🤘🤘
dope!
When freeride was free
С чего все начиналось. Теперь все валят ещё жёстче
I can't believe they've done this on $50 Walmart bikes!
Celldweller?
If only they could loop Sail by AWOLNATION the whole time. Had to wait a few more years for that treat
12:15 is so sick
And here we are 20 years later, bitching about grams on rear derailleurs and riding 3m wide machine-dug "trails".. ;)
Send this to riders of the event today! I think they have forgot the core values and ideas! Just to have a two day comp runs and solid!! why have the comp in one day? always wind issues ...
🤘🤘Bender
1:27 its forgiving red ground 😮?? how is that ground forgiving 😂
Pffffft, riding down a hill. Gravity does it all for you.
What really need is big tricks, like a slope style comp………..
Yeah they spoiled rampage by making it a slopestyle event 😒. Now monster have to take over because it aint freeride anymore
Josh bender is no way a suitable judge for todays event
Gabriel DH
Nothing like todays Rampage where they seem to cater to slopestyle tricking. No so much freeride and tough lines. Sad to see the direction the event has taken :(
Is a 50 foot front flip a slopestyle trick?
speaker
Worst sunglasses era
Brendog was robbed
De donde sacaste este video ??, yo necesito red bull Taxco 2002 🥹, al parecer desaparecio del mapa
