Twisted Yogi hope after a few years or I should safely say a half decade that you've found more and other proper gutty, producers and deejays to fuel your passion...
F**K MY LIFE!!! Ive just made a mixset with the first mix on here also on my mix :/ I had no idea!! Check my mix out on my profile to see who's is better ;)
All early breakbeat genres originated from mainly sampled 60's funk, soul, jazz etc. these breaks were added to certain types of house around the same time hip-hop producers were jumping on the old records aswel. In the UK a lot started experimenting with just the break alone aswel as those who were still using the solid 4x4 kick and breaks, this grew to be known as hardcore. With each year the limits of speed were pushed and the typical piano happy vibe started to branch to a more (and better in my opinion) darker side. 'Jungle tekno' still flaunted the 4x4 kick along with breaks but with a more serious, atmospheric vibe going on. By '94, the 4x4 beats had shifted back with the 'happy' and true breaks remained with the 'junglists' pushing a far more powerful sound on the floor. The influence of later Jamaicans taking interests in the genre is what brought about the term 'Drum & Bass'. Those pissed off with all the ragga sampling and toasting far away from jungles earlier forms starting making heady atmospheric beats again, coining the genre 'drum & bass' :) slowly but surely break beats deconstructed to what I call the 'kick snare' pattern and tracks were more evolved around bassline rather than a good old fashioned amen break. If anyone listens to a jungle track and a dnb track the differences are very clear. That said though jungle gave birth to all our beloved forms of d&b :) I am from England by the way, we are old skool mad! BIG UP ALL THE JUNGLE MASSI'!!!
Well said!! And might I add, very informative and well put together. Currently on a diet of DnB and old skool rave, I was just thinking myself that the amen break is in dire need of a comeback!!
its still pretty cool i just think that it would sound alot better if the drums transitioned more with the song instead of doin the same shit every 4 bars
Quite a random comment, DnB has always followed a 2 step beat, the kick drum and snare. It won't change now, thats the entire format of it. It's like me saying on a house mix "I can't stand these hi hats"
I here ya bro, that's why I'm still an obsessive junglist. Never been able to get on with that kick snare pattern, very unimaginative. Would sound solid with a good old Amen break driving it forward!! :D I'm here because my mandem are bang into this new stuff n I'm trying to share their fascination. Shouts to aaaall the jungle massive!
TheUKGDani the thing is they added Amens over Techstep a long time ago, at one point it was getting boring. Take a look at Ray Keith / Trace. They revamped the amen break and it was being called a Tramen break. The more movement a break has, the better imo. Switch it up at the end of bars, change the time signatures of the breaks and go for it ;)
This shit is insane!!!
DnB is at the best is ever been Thanks to the likes of Audio, Frankee, Mefjus, Fourward and many more keep it coming!
Now that's what I'm talking about. Gritty, like DnB should be. Shame I've had to look at that geezer's boat for half an hour.
