Folks say not to buy combos, but i got Abu Garcia Joradn Lee bait caster for $90, really light weight 7' med. Heavy rod.... Its by far my favorite to use.
Got the same rod from y’all two months ago and love it. Launches a mile much better than my mojo inshore from St Croix. Unless you’re willing to spend 250+ on a rod it’s hard to beat this rod.
Oi Lads! i introduce people to Gulf Fishing for the first time up here in Pasco County and before i do they watch your beginner videos. thanks for your knowledge, dedication, and love of the lifestyle. tight lines....
I have 3 x TFO IS TAC Rods (1 x 6'9" & 2 x 7' all MH Fast Action) all paired with Daiwa Saltist MQs. But I just ordered a TFO PRO S 7' MH Fast Action to pair up with my Ballistic MQ LT. Very nice set ups; super smooth indeed. Thank you Salt Strong for all the good insight & recommendations
If you want an entire setup for less then 100 that will last , the Penn pursuit 4 3000 and the lews Xfinity inshore you can get both at Walmart and I have fished it a lot and caught 20 plus lbs reds the lews has great backbone and cast great, the only thing I will note is it's a split grip so that might be a deal breaker but if you are only throwing lures and not going to set your rod in a rod holder it's well worth it
I fish the same Penn Pursuit 4 with a Berkeley Amp Saltwater 7'0'' Med Action Rod. Also both available from Wal-Mart. Very happy with it, and comes in around $75 total.
If you are in the market for a great crossover rod & reel setup that can handle inshore fishing as well as freshwater the TFO Professional Spinning rod should be at the top of your list! I bought the 7'FT Medium last year based on a Salt Strong review and have been very pleased with the performance. I paired it with a Shimano Spheros SW 3000 (SP3000XGSW) that I picked up at the Bass Pro refurbishment center in Macon, GA for $60... which was a steal since that reel is basically the previous generation Stradic (with two fewer bearings) and retails for $119. The reel is perfect match for the TFO rod and is well balanced. I loaded the reel with 15 lb. Power Pro Super 8 Slick V2. Overall the casting distance, sensitivity and power are on par with setups costing twice as much or more.
Great setup, I'm a fan of the Daiwa reels and powerpro braid. Have never owned a TFO rod, looks like a solid rig for our light inshore trips! Very decent price point as well.
Where I fish the creeks in New Smyrna there are Blues and Jack also. What size Fluorocarbon leader would you suggest without taking away the swim action of the Slam Shady?
There's one problem with the open-ended hook keeper: line can snag in it when you're casting. I lost a lure when it snapped off due to the abrupt stop. After it happened again, I taped the keeper shut to close the loop. It was convenient but getting too expensive.
6' medium heavy one piece Ugly Stik.... $40 delivered..... I've caught 40 pound reds and 60 pound tarpon on it. I've caught palm size brim. 10 years old and still going.... Thousands of trout and reds. The "medium heavy" is most important for casting. If you cast a 7/8th oz Top Dog with just a medium tip or lighter.... The flex in the tip absorbs the energy you put into the cast and you can't cast as far. A longer rod can off set that a bit, but it has less finesse for working the bait. Best cheap rod ever built. I am RICH as Jesus and I still use a 6' medium heavy Ugly Stik..... 3000 reel. Any brand will do. Good ones last a little longer. I use Shimano Stradic. I use 20 pound Berkeley Fireline. But any braid is fine. I like heavy test. Power Pro is popular but its very difficult to get wind knots out. Fireline is easy.... To get a knot out... Use two barbless hooks and start pulling the knot apart from the middle with the two hooks.... make sure they are barbless hooks. I use Mirrolure exclusively..... 52-M Catch 2000 Color doesn't matter...EVER.

Odis’s cameo appearance at the end of the video was hilarious!
One that’s also good to mention if you’re on a budget is and the ugly stick inshore select/diawa BG
I feel like this video was made for me!! This is my next set up since I just bought a Penn combo.

This is my preferred set up, not expensive and the TFO rod will whip an 1/8th oz weedless hook and Slam Shady out there!

I’ve been thrilled with that set up. Works great on bass as well.

Otis in the back with the video boom while taking care of his business, lol!
I like that keeper. I use soft plastics almost exclusively and will check out that rod.
Awesome setup Luke !!
Love the videos with Luke
Good stuff, Luke

Lol that dog taking a poopoo

Great tips .
The dog seen in the background thought that was a crappy presentation.😀

15-20lb leader will do it!
Is this setup rig good for night fishing under pier and dock lights.
Does the slam shady work for nightfishing

This just happened to me last night! Damn man good tip there 🙌🏽
My ONLY complaint with the rod! I've considered cutting it off and adding an aftermarket hook keeper.
Bro how long is that leader line on your set up ?
What do you think about rear handle length? Some long like up the elbow vs shorter like your current TFO?
what size hook are you using 3/0? 4/0 ? for the weedless twist hooks for the slam shady
Great question! Make sure to ask this over in the Community (www.saltstrong.com/) where the coaches spend their time.
You mentioned the power but not the action plus the reel is critical for efficiency in casting
Otis couldn't hold it until after the video ended? !@#$%&* great info Luke!

I’m so confused if this rod is medium light or medium heavy..
Hi guys, is there an equivalent of this TFO rod in St Croix rods ?
Mister Otis is making some sh… on the vid 😳😅
St Croix Triumph but just save up more and get the Avid Inshore or bull bay rods well worth the price.
$225 plus for a starter rod and reel, lol yeah hmmm...... I wish!
So much misinformation in this video 📷 yeah I'll pass SMH 😂
