Hi Sandy. Nice video. I like your retaining wall at the stream crossing (1:06). It has a nice lean into the slope. In my area if the base is not properly prepared, and the blocks are not sufficiently large, and the pitch into the slope is wrong - then it soon comes tumbling down (freeze-thaw). "There is never enough time to do a job right, but there is always enough time to do it over." 😂 Nice 2X2 stick, too.
I know that feeling Tom! That took some good effort to get that into place but turned out real well I think. Been up for years now. I like that saying!
Hey Sandy, thanks for the trip to the red pine forest today, enjoyed going along with you! Nice work getting that load together an ready to go to the mill! Take care! Andrew from NB :)
Getting more building materials is just a matter of cutting and loading. Nice way to get back into the forest. Those frogs will be croaking soon, if not already.
Good morning, Sandy! There is nothing like employing the K.I.S.S. principal. Great idea using a story board/stick, I do it all the time with any scrap wood that fits the bill. Cool day today down here in Peterborough, 10C.
Sure is a bit of a shock with the tmeprature drop over night. I'm hoping for the warmth again although the blackflies are about ready to carry me away haha
With the overhang ends it’s a start for log scaffolding. Place couple Logs across open end, they will give the overhang plus help stabilize wall. You are a very determined person it is close good luck
one quick idea, use your tape and mark a thick line 3.5' back from the end of your 9' stick. Then lay out from the end of the log, keep an eye on the spot it ends at, and scoot the 9' board forward till your 3.5' back mark meets that spot your eye is on, then you've got it marked to 12.5'
Good morning Sandy it sure seam nice that you didn't have to drop the trees but just cut the length by the way you must of put the log hauler on second gear it sure was moving and even yourself was faster ha ha ha was pleasant watching and i also notice the bridging in the mud hole now if you can put other debris to cover those pieces they will last longer it would be better with any kind of dirt but branches saw dust bark all that stuff works to raise your road and cover that wood have a nice day
Hi Robert. Yeah those white pines are some of the biggest I"ve got. They're certainly older than I am by probably 100 years. They sure are great seed trees I bet
Hi Sandy. I was just wondering, I'm not sure how it would work but could you just load full length making sure your butts are even and then just buck the whole load at one length. Then on your next load just pick up the tops. It may not work for you, I was just thinking out loud. That trailer is all kinds of cool. Makes me yearn for my self loader log truck days. That was the most fun you could have with 80,000 lbs if steel and wood. 😂 There's a joke in there somewhere. Hey have you seen that Stihl has a fuel injected saw now. I watch another guy that got one and I was very impressed. I'm a Husqvarna guy but that might sway me to buy one on my next saw purchase.
I hate dragging logs to hard on mill blades if I have to. I always lift one end, which should go without saying as it's too hard to drag a log full out on the ground. Hate to, but clean logs with watering I have to. That log trailer sure makes sense. Time saver.👍
I wonder why there are roadwheels on that (and many other) trailer? Why not atv/implement 12"-15" wide wheels instead for greater floatation and load index? If height is an issue smaller ∅ rims is the answer. Wide tires and low pressure 👍🏼💪🏼...
My late father used a length of 1/2” copper pipe. Painted the increments of 8’, 4’, 2’, and 1 foot. Worked great until I left it standing in our woods over night and someone felt they needed it more then I did. 😡
Hi Dora! All is well thanks! Hope your'e doing well. To be honest I'm not sure how much the load weighs. The trailer is rated for the 5k load so I'm just guessing it's within that range but not entirely sure.
Glad you're doing well. Maybe when those logs start falling off or you get stuck in the mud, it's a good sign it's reached capacity. 😅 But seriously, maybe a suggestion to the company to add one would be beneficial. And safer.
@@sawingwithsandy pump the tires up to full rated pressure, if they pop or go flat, you are overloaded!!, lol, more than likely, you will overflow the trailer with wood before you break anything, as you drive the tractor you can ''tell'' if you over loaded it, you can just feel it, experience is a good guide
I have a 13 acre red pine plantation that was passed down to me. My grampa said he use to get it thinned. When do i know its ready for thinning for best profit? Any advice would be great. Im located in Michigan btw.
Now I used to be sad that there was no large trees about... that said, unless you don't own the trees that you drove by going out to the different piles already down.. there is nice stuff standing that has met its prime in life and ready for harvest if needed.. and actually some looks too big for the size mill you have. Curious as to why not harvest them as well.... thinning is a great thing but leaving larger trees to just wait till a storm to knock down is a odd thing to me
Hi Morgan! Thanks for watching. The big trees you may have seen included some big white pines. Reason I don't cut those down is because they are the seed trees for many other white pines in the area and since I've got so many red pines that need thinning to help the health of the rest of the red pine stand I figure I"ll use those ones.
That log trailer sure makes it handy in narrow spaces and speed things along very nice. Great video Sandy.

The log trailer is a game changer for you, glad you have it! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
Thanks Mark. I'm very happy to have it for sure
Nice. I like that you're putting the log trailer to use more and more. Sure beats the snot out of dragging logs through the mud. Good vid. Thanks
Absolutely! The days of cutting muddy logs are gone!
Hey Sandy, thanks for the trip to the red pine forest today, enjoyed going along with you! Nice work getting that load together an ready to go to the mill! Take care! Andrew from NB :)
The trailer definitely will back your saw blades last long without dirt in the wood.
I agree with ya there. Sure saves me on the blades
Getting more building materials is just a matter of cutting and loading. Nice way to get back into the forest. Those frogs will be croaking soon, if not already.
I'm fortunate for that for sure
You are getting better with log loader Sandy
Thanks Rodney! Coming right along
Howdy Sandy- that trailer has really come in handy for you. Glad you got it. Take care and God bless
HEY... you're getting pretty damn good with the hoist on that log hauler, Good show, Sandy........
Thanks for that Carl!
👍👍👍💙💛❤Buna SANDY ! Faci o treaba buna.💙💛❤👍👍👍
Thank you!
good video and job the log trailer has made life much easier. take care, be safe and well.
Sandy your getting pretty good on that logging trailer
Thanks Gotti!
THIS LOOKS LIKE "SAWING WITH MUDDY"! GREAT BRIDGE!
Thanks John! Sure is slick out there
You sure got those controls nailed down quick with the trailer! Nice work
Another great episode Sandy!
Love your log trailer
Thanks Murray!

Always picking up new learnings. Keep it going!

That would do the trick Right there. Thanks Dave

Thank you !
Your getting more skilled with the loader.
Nice load of logs!
Nice ole Jag for sure!
Really enjoy watching you work.....Loved the sawdust spray into the camera lens....! Your loader kinda reminds me of the 'claw game'.....
Your equipment use has magnified you labor! Good use.
Thank you !
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you!
Notice few older growth trees on the drive out couldn't tell if they were alive but hopefully reproduce seeds for future plantings

LOL escargot without the shell, Pass the salt...
Hahaha
Thanks Sandy..

Hey Mike!
It's Muck boot season.
My grandfather Would cut a small sapling 6 foot 3 inches and make a ring around it at 2 foot so we could measure any size log.
That would do the trick real nice!

I hear ya there Del!
You sure don't have to worry about running out of timber to cut anytime soon.
haha that's for sure
Those smaller tops would make nice window trim. You know what I mean.?
That's a good point there Ken
marking out an additional 1 2 3 4 ft marks on your name footer will allow you to cut any length
That would do the trick!
Just put a 3 foot mark on your stick and slide it up for the 12 foot cut
That's an easy solution. Wonder why I didn't think of that haha
Im thinking about setting up a pressure washer to clean my logs before milling them. Thoughts?
I think that would work real well
I wonder why there are roadwheels on that (and many other) trailer? Why not atv/implement 12"-15" wide wheels instead for greater floatation and load index?

Are you happy with your cart/loader?
Keja bagus pak
Thank you!
Baik pak, terimakasih kembali
Hey Sandy, how goes it ? Curious, does that Wallenstein trailer have a weight gauge on it, or does your experience give you an eyeball on the load ?
Hi Dora! All is well thanks! Hope your'e doing well. To be honest I'm not sure how much the load weighs. The trailer is rated for the 5k load so I'm just guessing it's within that range but not entirely sure.

Are you going to plant replacement trees?
In my case the thinning will allow the remaining trees to grow bigger so won’t be replanting
I have a 13 acre red pine plantation that was passed down to me. My grampa said he use to get it thinned. When do i know its ready for thinning for best profit? Any advice would be great. Im located in Michigan btw.
what is the common diameter of red pine that you process on a regular basis?
I row thin so end up taking every tree in a row and they range from likely 4" to 12"

@@sawingwithsandy I sure never included that in my noggin... good thinking to keep seed going. I thought tho they needed a fire to open their cones..
No te sale más a cuento una batería recargable en lugar del generador a gasolina
That’s a good jag of 🪵👍❤😊
Real nice to have that behind the tractor for sure
