Absolutely! Why are so many patients reporting that the show doesn’t actually pay their medical bills? That’s the whole point of them taking part of the show.
I do not know much about the subject. I would say that on the face of it, that assistance both physical and mental should be provided to those who need it, especially at the conclusion of the show. I am only saying this because here in the UK so many people who have participated in reality TV shows have had trouble coping. If the terms of the contract promised certain things, then both parties need to ensure that they abide by the terms unless BOTH parties agree not to be bound by them. Contractual terms must also remain clear and the contract should be made in terms that the average person can understand. There is a HUGE imbalance of power in respect of the contracting parties. Breach of contrctual terms will liekly result in damages and most of the people featured on the show likely do not have the resources to pay for any damages, should the contract be breached and they probably do not have the resources to take a huge company to court. Thus, it is difficult to state whether or not they are being exploited. It is also a case on consent --> Do they all know what they are consenting to, for example does being on the show mean that you MUST do a shower scene? This is tricky. The extent of the Duty of Care must be examined and if a Duty of Care is established, it must then be determined if there has been a Breach of Duty.
I read some where that they were suppose to get paid for their story, but the moving, the Dr. visits, surgeries, etc., was all on the participant. Whether they had insurance or not. Uggh, for the life of me I cannot remember where I read an article about the show and if the participants had too pay for anything themselves or did the show pay for it? But yes, I think anyone who has been made to strip down to nothing, use the restroom and then shower in front of a camera is being taken advantage of. Horrendously so!! I don't know why any of them would do that too themselves, because I can guarantee you that NONE of them was happy to do it! The viewers can guess how difficult it is too take care of themselves in that regard, we don't need them to be humiliated or see proof of it for gosh sake! I feel for all of them, but also glad that they finally decided to get help. For whatever reason. Just my thoughts anyhow, lol.
No. I think the cast members are confused on what Dr. Now, the psychologists, hospitals, the production company and TLC etc...will or will not pay for. There are multiple entities involved, insurance would never pay for non-medical expenses, they barely cover some medical expenses if at all. And vice versa. All of the entities have lawyers draw up contracts that the patients have to sign, it's their responsibility to read the contract and know what it means. If they don't understand all of it, they need to find somebody who does. It's a business transaction, the production company gains and gives up something and the patient gains and gives up something. It's the person's responsibility to know what they're giving up, not just what they're gaining out of the transaction.

Drugs, police raids, dirty living conditions, half a dozen animals… and her most common phrase is “on my own”. Yet there are always people around for her to blame everything on. She’s a nightmare.
Her dad was not in prison "as long as she could remember"...her dad went to prison for 2 years. Which is awful, and awful circumstances from bad decisions...but I actually thought her dad seemed like the parent she had that cared the most. He seemed like a nice guy that just made some bad mistakes and choices.
She's seems like a strong beautiful person. Shame on the network for forcing to her to share the shower scene. Like I feel like they do the same to hoarders. Its almost exploitative at some times.
I agre with you. I have only started to watch tese episodes and I feel that all of the toilet scenes and some of the shower scenes are a bit too intrusive. I do not know what type of contracts they sign and the clauses involved, but for the most part the show needs to remember that some of the people filmed are very vulnerable (ie survivors of abuse). It must be absolutely humiliating. At least. the production crew was nice, according to her.

From what I understand, they all get an extra $1000 for a shower scene. Not all of them opt for the extra grand. It's a choice they made, probably long before the shower scene was even filmed.
She did it for the surgery. This sort of surgery plus a nutritionist to get a person healthy enough for that surgery is extremely expensive. Plus the network tries to get many of their subjects into psychological therapy since many have suffered trauma. That’s expensive too. Many people couldn’t afford it unless they have good insurance. So the network is giving them what is seen as elective surgery.

It's interesting how this show always manages to get an entire camera crew to the person who is on the show's house ..in order to get shots of this poor woman naked in the shower, when she's just as fat with clothes on as she is with them off..yet she is expected to somehow at nearly 700 pounds get herself to Texas ,and find a place to live with an apparently very limited amount of money?..excuse me but all else aside for just one moment ,because I know her temperament under all of this stress is all anyone is supposed to pay attention to..god forbid she express the tiniest fragment of distress at facing potential homelessnesss in a strange city that she is only even in to be on this tv show..because they have no money..my question is a simple one.. Why? They are there to be on the show and the show is guaranteed to get every exploitation oriented moment they can on camera..evey shot you see of her and her family is there because of the camera crew being there ,filming them..im sure those people are compensated for their actions as its their job..but these people and her in particular are relentlessly filmed and often at the worst times yet they are supposed to scrape by financially entirely on their own?..the very least tv shows have ever done in the past as to provide financial support for their participants that is reasonable to provide a reasonable way in which they can live while on the show , she uprooted her entire life to travel on her own dime crammed into a car too small for her for 3 hours to get to Texas ..just for the show..she and her family were left to fend for themselves with no home or income in a strange place as the show continued to make money filming her and her family's distress and hardships..then we get to watch this doctor accusing her of being irresponsible and not taking responsibility for her situation and weight loss..even though she is in fact living out of a motel room that doesn't even have a kitchen..and live with a degree of fear and stress that could and should have been avoided entirely if the show only cared about doing anything other than exploiting these people, setting them up for drama and failure by expecting them to do something they hadn't managed to ever do on their own before..under an entire slew of new strains stresses and anxieties they need need not have had to experience..If they really wanted to help these people, they would pay them and provide everything they actually need to get through it all with a fair opportunity for success ,it's shameful that these people are put through so much unnecessary strain,like that..when the show is making millions off of these people.
I would be among the first to make fun of someone, but i don't when they actually work on their weight and make a good effort. She's looking 10x better now.

i never did drugs but i know people can die if they dont get off drugs correctly the right way but nobody died because they refused to overeat.
