Unfortunately we are not left with many options in the Android world and I am definitely not going to Apple any time soon (if ever). It might have to do with the fact that the population globally is ageing (people live for longer whilst birthrates are going down, hence more older people in the world) and people need bigger screens to see better.
This was a great comprehensive real world comparison. Probably the best I've seen on UA-cam. I'm typing this on my Pixel 6 looking to upgrade soon. Would you please do a comparison between the Pixel 9 pro and the XL? Google claims everything is the same except for the battery and display size so I'd like to see if that makes much of a difference before I upgrade. Or maybe just wait another year for the TSMC made chips for the Pixel 10 series?
Sure thing, the problem is Pixel 9 Pro will be released mid Sept and I'm waiting for mine. Other channels get the phone from Google directly, so maybe check their reviews first. I had Pixel 6, Pixel 9 is a significant jump in terms of quality, camera, and battery since your phone is a bit old. At the same time I agree the real value will be with Pixel 10, it depends if you need a phone now or can wait a year :) Also if you wanna get one, go for Pro, better cooling, better camera, and better LTPO display.
That is a big difference in usage time between the two. I was hoping for the S24 to be more efficient, but i guess the much smaller battery does matter. Wish they would make it just slightly thicker to fit in a 4500 at least in the S25.
Thanks Mo. Great real-world test, and huge bonus points for using the base models! Do you think the S24's battery is just a bit older, hence not a fully fair test?

Also like this real outdoor test. All techreviewers talking about how many nits the displays have but they forgett the most important thing. Could you please test the displays in sunshine for a longer time? Most of the phones are utterly useless after 5 min because the displays dimming.
Surprised about the new Samsung modem of Pixel 9 (hence the battery difference), seems that the next TSMC Pixel will be a beast. 5-6 Euros a doner in Bucharest.
Thanks for the comparison, waiting for my Pixel 9 Pro! The basic dürüm kebab in my area (Prague), which I have just across the street, is 5.20 EUR and with cheese it's 5.60 EUR, so pretty much the same, but with the average salary in Vienna being double that of Prague, you can probably afford twice as many :D.

Are the problems still there in the Galaxy S24 Exynos variant after updates? Please make a updated video about the changes in camera , heating , battery life etc. if there is any change.
The only complaints I've really seen about the 24 are the battery performance when people are melting it using benchmarks, which aren't actually a good way of measuring real world performance. All I've seen are positive threads about the s24 so far, the only issue I've picked up on from people is using 5G has led to noticeably more heat and battery drain
Are you processing the ai things on the s24 on-device? There is a setting where you can get much faster and more accurate results by using cloud computing. Google pixel uses cloud computing for ai stuffs, unlike Samsung you can't really control what is sent and what is on device
Every time I see this standard Pixel 9, I can't get it out of my head that it's just a Pixel 8 Pro in a new chassis and a compact size, but mostly without the 5X zoom sensor and without the Pro Camera 📸 features 🤔 And as much as I can't justify the iPhone 15 with its 60 hertz screen in 2024, I can't justify this Pixel 9 at its price with its processor at the level of processors dating back 3 years (8 Gen 1 / 8+ Gen 1 / A14) . And for me, iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max and S23 / S23 Plus are currently much better deals than both smartphones I mentioned above, especially the S23 Plus whose size (unlike the standard S23 and iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max) is much closer to that of the standard Pixel 9. 🙏🏽 Ps: use the Google Photo magic eraser on any other smartphone and you will have the same result and speed as on the Pixel 9, it's not a matter of processor, but rather of software.

Even though I agree companies should work on PWM, specially Pixel 9, the rainbow effect is because I'm using ND filter and not because of PWM. Many modern phone screens, especially OLED and some LCDs, use polarized light. When you add an ND filter, which can have its own polarizing properties or interact with light in a specific way, it can create interference patterns, resulting in a rainbow effect. I still don't know how to remove this effect from screens when I'm shooting a video in daylight.

I like the design of pixel 9. This phone looks like from the future. Samsung absolutely messed up s24 by giving it exnos processor. Exnos does run hotter
I don't know what country you live in, but I live in the USA and on Samsung phones, we get the Snapdragon processor, witch is much better, I like the glossy finish on the Google Pixel 9, they have better cameras than Samsung 24 except in zoom and a better user interface, better at getting updates first, but, the battery life is only 2 years before you need to replace it, which sucks, because Google Pixel 9 offers 7 years of updates, what good is that if the Pixel Battery needs to be replaced after 2 years, Samsung Galaxy 24 has better zoom cameras, video, faster processor and the battery life span last year's longer, before replacement, that's what a lot of people are saying who had both Samsung and Google Pixel phone's, I never had a Google Pixel phone, was very interested in getting a Google Pixel 9, I thought it looked beautiful and the cameras were always rated very good, like a Samsung pro max, my Samsung Galaxy 23 is in cream color and is awesome, but my charging port got messed up, I think lent or debris is I I, so I have to use a wireless charger, someone recommend using a case like a otter box with a port cover, especially if I use the phone a lot, and my Samsung 23 will be paid off in February 2025, so, I was debating between the Google pixel 9 and Samsung 24 r waiting for the Google pixel 10 or Samsung 25, the Samsung 25 will be coming out in the first week of March, but when I heard about reviewers complaining about the Google Pixel Phone's battery life span only lasting 24 months, it makes me confused! 📱🙋🤷♂️
Shutter lag alone (not that there aren't many other camera problems) and weak vibration on S24 series makes those devices pretty much worthless. Unusable photos of moving subjects and a lot of missed calls and notifications. On "flagship" devices. In 2024. Should not be acceptable.
Does the s24 still have the infamous shutter lag with the camera? I've had S20FE and the S21FE and both phones suffer from it, so I'm looking to moving to pixel 9 pro for it.
Hi Techmo, which photo settings do you use for S24? I have it but was a bit shocked about some of the post processing it applies (sometimes you think the colors look good, just to watch the processing cirle turn around for a few seconds and then the final result is worse. And it can't be toogled off completely it seems). Between the different settings the results are extremely inconsistent. I tried to find the best settings but there are almost too many to keep track of the resulting photos... (intelligent optimizing Max, Mid, Minimum; scene optimization on/off; Pro mode, Expert Raw-which has its own set of settings...). I just have a feeling the iPhone as point&shoot camera is still far ahead...
I shoot in manual mode, I had the same problem, photos are extremely artificial no matter what setting. Manual mode is slightly better but I don't like the white balance and color science of it. Nowadays I got to the habit of carrying a small camera (Sony ZV1 II) in my pocket.
Shutter lag and weird processing of photos are still (and have been for years) present on Samsung phones. Could not get a decent photo of any moving subject with my S23U. Pixel 4a I used then was miles ahead when it comes to cameras. Tried S24U this year - it's pretty much the same thing. All of those settings are just placebo (I've been using Samsung phones for 7 years straight). Switched to Iphone - zero problems. Finally I can almost always predict outcome when it comes to pictures and videos.

@@darkgusetdoesn’t matter anyway, the new smallest pro iPhone is 6.3“ too
The Pixel 4XL had massive bezels though. If you go by the overall dimensions, it's actually similar to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The Pixel 9 is smaller than the Pixel 6 and only 2.5 mm wider than the Pixel 1, while the display size increased from 5“ to 6.3”.

Hi Techmo, just got S24 based off your recommendations. For some reason I am always getting jitters especially in panning video. Do you have any tips?
Maybe test Pixel 9 pro vs S23 ?
Great review, i loved the kebab lore part. I appreciate the hard work :)
I like your composition, but I think the S24 should be compared to the Pixel 9 Plus. These two phones are similarly priced.
Does the s24 still have the infamous shutter lag with the camera? I've had S20FE and the S21FE and both phones suffer from it, so I'm looking to moving to pixel 9 pro for it.
Should I buy s23 or meizu 21 note or oppo Find X6 Pro ?
Oneplus 12 is the best bag for buck Android phone - and it's 7 months older than the Pixel 9
First one to comment. Great video as always ❤
What is the case for s24?
