Why should I need a house with more? More bedroom and more bathroom than you need, more garages to have more cars than you can drive. All need to be cared for and taxed, and insured. If you are more happy like this then very good. It doesn’t hurt me. The wind still blows my sails. If I am just this happy with something smaller, and I keep more money to do other thing, this isn’t any more smart or foolish. Just is different only. So very true! I refinished a mahogany race boat when I was 16. Sanding and varnishing the entire thing so many times. Grew up in the '70s on 30-40 foot yachts on lake Michigan. So much work on those old boats (that weren't so old back then)
Someone told me years ago that to own a 50 fert boat is twice the cost of a 40 feet boat , and to own a 40 feet boat is twice the cost of a 30 feet ? I have never counted on it but like mooring fee in Barcelona for my 35 feet was almost 350 euro a months, and as i now live in an apartment its a bit to much for me. My newer 23 feet will cost about 140 euros a month , not to bad.

Renting an apartment in California is very expensive, and I plan on staying there for a few years (10-15 years). In your opinion, is it a good idea to buy a sailboat?
It would be easy for me to live on that boat! I've already lived 2 yrs on a 33 ft and 7 yrs on a 38 ft sailboat. What I probably couldn't do or at least wouldn't want to do is keep up with the maintenance. 😂

It looks like the systems are relatively straightforward, so hopefully the ongoing maintenance is relatively easy! I'm sure it's a lot of work on a lot of detail and very worthwhile.

Sailing is easy. Can be learned in a few days. I know, cause I did that. Bought a boat, learned to sail on my own.
Couldn't imagine the running and maintenance cost for that giant old boat.
