Sadly, I only discovered Mary a couple of years ago, what have I been missing all this time? Played Dubliners version then others popped up on UA-cam and I immediately fell in love with Mary's voice, all her songs are wonderful, play them every day. Hope to see Mary in concert when I am able. Beautiful voice, beautiful lady! Thank you Mary.

My daddys father worked his life in the coal mine, his children became educated as Doctors,Teachers Dentists, as well as being great parents, - all because one man who had a dream to stay in Ireland couldnt and went back to the pits in liverpool to make sure his children had a future, im so proud of him- could you imagine if he didnt? He died of empysema /total slow lung disease and he did this for his children and his future children, i will always admire,honor and love this man xx And yes he was IRISH x

I was there! I was very moved when she sung Working Man! She gave a great performance! It so happened her band couldn't get visas to come so she had to use a local band, but they did a great job!
@huppypuppy My father and I were at her show yesterday at Warragul, Vic, she was outstanding once again. Glad to hear she'll be back in March next year with Daniel O'donnell
First time I've heard this great tribute to coal miners song sung by a lady. It was great to hear it in concert with Daniel O'Donnell in Harrogate in October this year.
Mary Duff is probably among my top 5 female vocalists of all time and although Rita MacNeil probably isn't in my top 50, it is pretty hard to beat Rita and the original Men of the Deep with the "Working Man" but thank you Mary for keeping that song alive and well.
I drove to Branson Missouri, and I drove to Halifax Nova Scotia, and I drove to Halifax Nova Scotia again, and finally I drove to Saint-John New Brunswick, every time to see a Daniel O'Donnell and Mary Duff concert. My mother loved Daniel O'Donnell, and wanted to see a live concert... four times, the last time she was battling cancer. The first time we heard Mary Duff sing Working Man (by Rita MacNeil) in Halifax, she would have received a standing ovation had she waited a couple more seconds before the band began the next song. I could see people rise up from their seats as Mary turned towards the band. This song has so much meaning to the people of Nova Scotia (Canada), their tragic coal mining history, and their love for Rita MacNeil, one of Nova Scotia's many musical talents. Our mother is now gone, but we have the memories, pictures, and autographs to last a lifetime. Thank you Mary, Daniel, and the band, till we meet again.

@huppypuppy I didn't know it was Daniels last tour, I've looked at his website and there's no mention of it there. That's terrible news if it is his last. I've been to quite a few different shows and Daniels in Melbourne last September was the best of them all. Daniel and Mary together will be amazing.
Ah, I disagree with ya, Wayne. Mary has a much clearer voice than Rita, also she does the song with a more smooth tempo. This video is not her best rendition of it, but the song is one of my favorite Mary Duff tunes. I have seen her sing it live and she is AWESOME!
Rita Mc Neill wrote this song and made it her own.Her version will not be bettered But Mary has to be a close second she has such a great range in her voice.Lovely.

Wasn't familiar with this song or Rita McNeil or Mary Duff. While listening to this I read your response. I had to check out Ms McNeil's version afterward to compare. Duff's version can't be beat..... I thought..... My friend, I must agree with you. Ms McNeil truly does "own" this. The feeling is "there". this song was played at my Dads funeral. it was one of his favourites when he went through the cancer period. Miss him lots and lots
