Denny kept a surfboard in my dads garage on The Strand in Manhattan Beach. He was all of about 14 or 15. It was a long bike ride from Hawthorne, towing then still the longer boards.

Wow this group. The stories they could tell and the people they met! The Manson link is frightening. When I was little my mother used to buy me 45” singles, one I knew and one “to see what it was like”. She was a music lover, from Tom Jones to The Loved Ones! I remember she bought The Beach Boys “Hawaii” the same day she bought David Bowie’s “Sorrow”, which was one of our favourites. And l really liked “Hawaii”, it introduced me to a different kind of 60’s music. I was a complete Elvis Presley nut as a little girl so everything before 1970 to me was Elvis ❤.
Just wanted to also say kudos for how you get the pronunciation of some gnarly names right in all your videos, it’s not always easy!❤️

Thank you Deidre for being here and your lovely comment 🥰 Yes it gets tricky trying to get the right pronunciations sometimes. And yes I had a mother that played her 45" singles daily which helped me learn so much about music also. I loved The Loved Ones song The Loved One ❤️

My mom watched the documentary and she told me Dennis sadly got affiliated with Manson. I felt so bad for him. He had great potential, all the boys did, and that father of theirs. What a terrible man even going as far in selling their own rights, his own sons.

And on a side note, some similarities between two very different groups from different eras:
The Beach Boys and N.W.A. Both from the southland of Los Angeles, Beach Boys from Hawthorne just down Rosecrans Blvd from NWAs Compton. The Beach Boys original songs were about surfing and racing while only one of them Dennis Wilson was about that life, he surfed and occasionally street raced. NWA rapped about the gangster lifestyle while only of them Easy E was truly about that lifestyle. Both groups would rise up the sales charts and then implode but leave behind a legacy of music.

Dennis sure was a handsome man. I get the impression that there are a lot of “demons” in the minds of The Wilson Family. 😞

It’s difficult not to look at that last year with Shawn love and say what’s wrong with this picture? Dennis began as a very successful womanizer. His good looks and charm had his pick of beauty queens. His first three wives were all gorgeous models. Christine mcvie was quite a catch. And then this foolish naive teenager? What was once seen as exciting and rebellious in a younger man was now just tiresome and pathetic
