  • We have a PD4045KA Progressive Dynamics Power Converter in our 2020 Lance 1575 Travel Trailer. By default the power converter comes from the factory setup for Lead Acid batteries, but the PD4045KA can be easily converted for Lithium batteries, allowing them to charge much faster.
    I have a 12 Volt 170Ah Lithium-Iron Phosphate Battery.
When the PD4045KA is set to Lead Acid, max charge current = 10 Amp @ 12V
When the PD4045KA is set to Lithium, max charge current = 30 Amp @ 12V
The PD4045KA didn't have a switch, but was very easy to do. Skip to 1:40 in the video to see the actual switch over.

You just saved me $300! I have a 2019 Lance 650 with a 200ah lithium battery and the PD4045KA built-in unit and NOWHERE in the manual does it hint at a magical Li switch! I was literally about to buy a new converter today and decided to google this Progressive Dynamics unit one last time before clicking buy to see if there was any way to make this thing work with a LifePo. Sure enough, my charging current went from the usual 10-12 amps to 44 amps!! Thank you!

Thanks! Was looking for the switch per the instructions and I wondered if it might be that little black thing that needed to be moved. Can't believe I found your vid. 👍

Thank you for this. I was looking all over for the darned switch that the PD website showed needed flipping. They did not even have the right picture of the panel in the PD4045KA. Now I can plug it in after swapping out my lead acids for two Battle Borns. Next is to finish the solar upgrade from 1 100W panel to three 190W. Looking forward to the furnace working all night now.

This was extremely helpful and I will echo others in their frustration in the manuals not matching our PD4045KA boards. Thank you!

Thank you! I looked everywhere in the manual to determine if this was all I needed to do in an effort to change the charge profile. The manual is not clear about this and implys you need to change the converter to a LI version. Why do they not have any info in this simple change in the manual? ( Frustrating ) And of course the RV Sales establishment ( Barber RV / Ventura CA ) knew nothing about this and installed the 1000.00 LI battery and never commented or even knew this should be done. Take nothing for granted DUE DILIGENCE'S !!! Brother I hate slackers! Again thank you for the video!

Agree it's had to find people who are in the know - especially when it comes to RV equipment. I've found the following very useful : community.lanceowners.org/

I will be picking up the PD4045ka so was good to see your video because I’m using 2 ampere time 100ah batteries and I would have been searching for a switch, thank so much for the info

Hi, I have the same power control module, and I really appreciate you doing this video. I opened mine up and mine is labeled the same as yours, the jumper states "on for gel", I'm assuming this is for a gel battery charging profile. The typical gel charging profile does not require the equalization mode (14.4 -14.8V) because the battery acid does not get stratification, and the bulk and Float voltages are slightly different in gel mode. My question here is have you ever noticed since you've been running with the jumper on any voltages higher than 14.6 volts? Thank you in advance for your time and posting this information because it is mentioned nowhere in my documentation.

I haven't really kept an eye on the voltage to know for sure. But I've been running my system like this since I made the video and everything has been working perfectly.

So weird, my board does not have that jumper, I guess I’m stuck buying the new one for 250, thanks for the reply and the video!

Great video. This isn’t covered anywhere else 🙄 😂

What is the charge voltage when you switched which IMO is the most important factor, thank you, I have the same coulometer and am surprised with such a good video you didn’t hit the voltage button.

Sorry, I never checked. I just made the change and crossed my fingers, and it's been working great ever since. Not the most scientific method, but my 12V battery seems happy enough

So that’s the jumper ? My manual says my jumper is on the other side

Switching the pins is enough to ensure no equalization is attempted?

I only have a single battery so I'm not sure unfortunately

What year was that controller? Is this mostly the newer gen?

I purchased the Lance new in 2019, so it's whatever they installed at the factory.

Manual says a switch!?! They must have changed it recently. So the WIZ is for lead acid and LI is for lithium? Thanks

    • @joshseal2000
      @joshseal2000  3 роки тому +1

That's what I assumed and the results speak for themselves. Just change the jumper to LI and the controller will switch to its lithium profile.

I’m about to upgrade to lithium and this confirms what I need to do. Thanks!

Will this work with the PD4135KW?
