Thank you so much for this. I was having a really hard time planning how to improve my kids fluency without memorizing. This made so much sense!

Totally agree with the order of teaching facts. I taught 3rd this past school year and am moving to 4th in the coming year (different schools). I'm eager to see how my new group of students learned these facts. My district uses the Zearn curriculum (which is the same as Eureka math), and the grouping of units is around teaching facts like this and then builds on that for the more difficult facts (6,7,8,9).

The order math facts should be taught? I'm sorry, I am of the opinion that math facts should never be taught. If you have to resort to telling children that 4+2=6 IMHO you have failed as a math teacher.

I am looking for strategies for my daughter she is in second grade. Unfortunately your system doesn't offer the help I can help her with. I struggled understanding your charts. My problem is that I am color blind. Can you offer any strategies. Thank you Donny

Shade the chart with lines (e.g., diagonal). Use thick lines in the dark colored cells and decrease the width of the lines as the colors lighten. You can ask a friend who is not color blind to help you identify the colors. Once you have inserted the lines, you will be able to work with the chart on your own and with your students.
