I purchased the Mini 2 for the ease of use and hot weather flying, Mavic 2 can not fly reliably above 95°F. The Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 2 say 40°C (104°F) but both have issues when it is hot.
It always depends on everybody needs and purposes. You can choose DJI Mini 1, 2 or 3, each have their own capabilities and accessories. I still think Mini 3 Pro is slightly overpriced because it shouldn´t be in that place, it canabalize Mavic 2 and Air 2s, so Mini 3 Pro position and price are misplaced. Dji couldn´t make the upgrades without increasing too much the price so they took the safe way by increasing significantly the price with fewer units, thats why the base version is already sold out, and people who order now will get their order in months from now.
@@troublemaker1829 Thats my point, both Air 2s/Mavic 2 and Mini 3 pro currently are on the same price category with similar capabilities, its a bit confusing. Thats why Mini 3 pro shouldnt be in that position, it should have been named "Mini 3" and have a bit less features and be a little cheaper from what it costs now.
@@3DModelsToys we gout the same thougts. Lets remove the backward firing sensors, normal small controller for a mini and it could allready cost a 200 less and skip the pro because pro should just be for 1inch or higher. Bigger sensor means more room for light and less noise. I mean these drones or for movie capture. Not to toy around in the garden like a fpv drone.
just got the mini 2 about 3 weeks ago. Was kinda bummed at first but now tbh I don’t really care. Extra 500CAD just for HDR which u cant even turn off as of and some sensors. Not a-lot of lenses yet. Sensor arent all around so it can still smack stuff. And DJI active track is trash and not worth 1k USD. Rather get a better DJI drone or the Skydio 2 or another drone with beacon tracking. Guess no need for AEB, only really good part abt the mini 3 is the larger sensor on the camera and 4k at 60fps
definitely worth it just because obstacle avoidance... its a must for me since my mini 2 crashed with an antena in a construction site... never saw it again
I understand that the mini 3 can withstand some rather strong Winds. That is important for where I live, which is in a valley running north to south, which attracts wind.
Great video. I was looking to see if I should get the Mini 2 or 3, and it seems like the 2 is more bang for the buck for the simple hobbyist stuff I'll be doing. I'd love to have the new remote and obstacle avoidance, but at double the price it's just not worth it. Keep up the good work.
believe me! that obstacle avoidance is not worth it since you're going to fly your drone most of the time forward and sideward, take note that mini 3 don't have sensor in the side, I probably going to appreciate the sensor more if they tried to put it on the side instead of the front. Also all those feature that the mini 3 has can be done using Litchie app.
As with most DJI upgrades the main focus is on the camera. I enjoy flying my drone and later looking at the videos that I have taken but, I am not a photographer and do not post videos to media. I do not possess a 107 license nor do I want one. The only advantage I see for a person like myself would be the controller. Is that worth $500 to me? Also optical avoidance front back and down seems like it would have been better to have it on the sides as that is where you are most likely to have a crash. Other than that I enjoy my mini 2 and will not upgrade until I see upgrades in the app and a controller w/video feed that will work with all DJI drones. By the way I still enjoy flying my spark that has optical avoidance.
As much as I want that 4K 60fps and 1080P 120fps, I just spent $600 on the Mini 2 fly more combo one year ago. The new one by itself is $800 and the flymore is still an additional $180 to 250. Im going to wait til next year and get the non pro mini 3 I’m sure they’ll release, maybe it’ll just have the upgraded camera without all the new sensors. We know there’s still a market for cheaper drones without collision avoidance.
Odds of another DJI drone without collision avoidance is slim to none. They lost way too much money replacing crashed mini 2’s through DJI Refresh. Don’t hold your breath on a non pro model.
Hello i bought the mini 3 pro but it does not activate and local salesman told me that i should wait till 17th as it would be officially launched on 17th and activation will be done. Please advise?
great review! I'm a hobbyist wanting to start shooting international documentaries (just as a hobby). I have the mini 2 and really like it. I love DJI but yikes, the cost is easily double what you can get the mini 2 (fly more combo) for. I see that the images are "better" but not that much better. I'm planning on using the mini 2 until it's warranty is out, then, depending upon how much I actually end up using drones for filming, would consider the mini 3 in a year or two. Thanks again for a very practical review.
When it comes to the price increase over the Mini 2 , one has to keep in mind the current high rate of inflation globally. Did anyone really expect DJI to add all these extra features while keeping the price close to the Mini 2?
Not sure what I would get for my now "ancient" DJI Mavic Pro 1 AND the outdated Autel X Star Premium at this point...but I'd sell both and put it towards this drone!
Mini2 was a game changer when it came out. Incredible quality and capabilities for the price. Mini 3 may be a bit better, but it's not the Incredible value the Mini2 was.

Does the "HDR" function work when using the D-Cenelike gamma? Or,...does DJI simply "bake-in" their pre-color graded HDR look into a normal contrast rec709 profile? This is important because HDR leaves room for color grading but only if it's baked into a flat profile. If it's baked into a high contrast profile, then there is nothing that can really be done to it in post.

A Daniel Defense M4V7 rifle outright with all the optics etc (that added up over a couple of months to over 3k), and then my nephew got into flying WWII RC prop planes. The Mini 3 Pro was out of my budget. Went with the Mini 2, with fly more, aftermarket cables, filters, props etc.
I really like the Mini 2. Think it's hard to go wrong with it. Best ever? No. Is it a potato? Far from it.
EDIT: And in case you're wondering. The wife doesn't care. The truck is for her. The rifle is for us. And the drone is for me.
So I really would love to upgrade to the mini pro 3, but since the price is so close to the Air 2s. Which would you pick, size, weight doesn't matter.
I have the Refurbished AIR 2 Fly More Combo, I purchased with the Care Refresh Plan for $714 shipped, I would argue that the current Refurbished Mavic AIR 2 Fly More Combo from Drone Nerds $669 is the best deal out on a awesome drone.
Thanks for the informative video. I've been using the mini 2 for 18 months or so and love it. Still seriously thinking of getting the mini 3 pro for the extra features and larger batteries. Glad we don't have the weight restrictions here in NZ.
If you have no weight restrictions, why not just get, The Mavic AIR 2S or Mavic AIR 2? You can purchase a Refurbished Mavic AIR 2 Fly More Combo for $669, I only paid $714 shipped for the AIR 2 Fly More Combo & 1 Year Care Refresh Plan. it's the best deal out, on a awesome drone.
Thank you very much. As a mini 2 owner I prefer to wait few months for the price to drop and accessories to be available.
I'm finding mint condition Mini 2s where I live for $300, whenever I look to find a mini 3 they are $900+ I think I'm good with the mini 2 for now
I’m sticking to the mini 2 till something drastic happens to it
What I would like to know is when and if DJI is going to add support for the Mini 3 on the RC Pro. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
My guess would be once the sales slow down on the rc with the screen then they will update the firmware for it to work with the rc pro
In my opinion, mini 3 are packed with capabilities on air2s which means it seems like Air2S mini. So I think it is not misplaced.
The mini 2 does have forward obstacle avoidance and two sensors right there on the front smaller, but in much the same place as the mini 3.
Now that's great info... Thanks Aldryn
No brainer upgrade. Not having to gimp / tether my Phone is reason enough, but the myriad of other updates on the MINI 3 is just a given upgrade.
Can you please make a review video about DJI ND Filters
Love the relevance of your videos, this is what I have been struggling with. Thanks for the valuable insights!.
Bought my Mini 2 last year. If and when I plan to upgrade it will be for a bigger drone
Would downgrading from a Mavic Air 2 be worth it or no?
Please make a short video of the MINI3 using RCN1 remote control. If we were gonna get the aircraft MINI3 only option.
just got the mini 2 about 3 weeks ago. Guess no need for AEB, only really good part abt the mini 3 is the larger sensor on the camera and 4k at 60fps
love my mini 2 but if something were to happen, it's nice to know I have a controller and can just swap it out with the mini 3 drone only purchase
definitely worth it just because obstacle avoidance... its a must for me since my mini 2 crashed with an antena in a construction site... never saw it again
I'm new to this drone stuff, what would be a better choice?
Thanks that was helpful as a Mini 2 owner. One thing I think you forgot was the mini 3 is also more more quiet if flight.
I think I'll stick with my Mini 2 for now. Got everything I need right here.
I understand that the mini 3 can withstand some rather strong Winds. That is important for where I live, which is in a valley running north to south, which attracts wind.
Outstanding. Thank you. I can hardly wait!
I’m still on a dji spark and I hardly ever use it but I would like to get this new mini 3.
I just want the RC screen remote! Do you know if they will be selling it, bare tool only?
Short, sharp, to the point. Great video
I like the mini 2 design more than mini 3, mini 3 looks kinda derpy with that huge sensor infront
great review!
I just got mini 2. I love it. But I would love to use the mini 3. It's so prefect!
Really worth it if I have MA2?
there is no asteroid quickshoot feature in mini 3 pro
Does the Smart controller (not the pro version) Work with the Mini 3 pro?
Not sure what I would get for my now "ancient" DJI Mavic Pro 1 AND the outdated Autel X Star Premium at this point...but I'd sell both and put it towards this drone!
Mini2 was a game changer when it came out. Incredible quality and capabilities for the price.
Mini 3 may be a bit better, but it's not the Incredible value the Mini2 was.
Hi can you program way points for this drone just like the phantom drone?
still not sure about some probs I’ve seen in several videos!
1. weak signal at not very far distances
2. battery load warnings
Probably a firmware issue
@@babarmasood4770 hopefully! But it is strange, that non of the pre-testers and UA-cam-reviewers are talking about - although it really obviously often appears…
@@Chorge1972 Check Rainmaker out he kept losing connection not to far away, Thing is others are glossing over things, Some are saying it tracks fabulous really? Watch Captain Drone with the air2s tracking whilst driving around the back of a school whilst another guy was on the controller outside the school gates, That's Tracking!
Also the video of crashing into a school bus that obstacle avoidance didn't work ua-cam.com/video/E3wzUMIj5fk/v-deo.html
@@tonyrobinson362 it’s not only in DC Rainmakers video! You see it now and then also in other reviews happen - even much nearer! Bummer!!
I will buy the Mini 3. Not now, though. I mean, the thing that I miss in Mini 2 is the active tracking feature. But I will not buy that new drone now. Maybe in 3 or 5 months. Until then I believe that I can still create great footages with Mini 2. And who knows? 800 bucks? I hope they will make it cheaper eventually...
Yep i'll wait, until they have the refurbished, Mini 3 deals out, & I can save $200. I have a 9th gen iPad for my Mini 2 & AIR 2, & can use either controller, so I'm just interested in the drone without the controller.
I have a mavic air 2. I am planning on getting rid of it and going with a mini 3 or mini 3 pro for one simple reason: FAAs Remote ID rules. I can't really justify spending $2K for the Mavic 3, especially considering I can't really travel internationally with it.
I'll stick with my Mini 2 for now. Maybe in a year or 3 I'll get the Mini 3. I hardly use the Mini 2 as it is. If I were in the EU/UK I'd consider it strongly though. As always; good food for thought.
as somebody looking to buy their first drone within the next month would you recommend the Mini 2 or Mini 3.
Thanks for taking the time as always.
Happy Flying!
Front obstacle avoidance sensor should have been placed as like inavic 3 pro which would help in side ways obstacle sensing also
Hey I have the mini 1 I still love it ! I’m no photographer why would I upgrade .
Why you don’t test range? Compare Mini 3 and 2. Mini 3 Pro has signal problem
Fantastic breakdown. You answered every question I had about whether to upgrade or not. Thanks!
That was some good info right there!
Didn't knew about a couple of features of Mini 3 Pro, but now, it seems that it is a great deal with plenty of astonishing features!
I am 14 currently, and flying my Mini 2 since a year and two months, as of now!
Reached a max distance, flight experience and total takeoffs of 475 km, 71 hrs and 875 takeoffs respectively!
Looking forward to have this amazing invention!
I can tell you are 14 haha
@@vg6761 What does that mean?
In which sense are you telling that?
I think they mean your enthusiasm/excitement (not in a bad way) 👍
@@bigboibenz Thanks, I hope so
I'm not clued up on sensors but my understanding is the mini 3 pros camera is better than the DJI mavic 2 zooms?
I have the first Mavic Mini I bought a wee bit more than two years ago and been enjoying it very much. But now that there is a significant amount of new features with the Mini 3 Pro, I will definitely be getting the Combo soon. I have lots of accessories for the Mini One and in looking at the camera gimbal on the Mini 3 Pro, it doesn't llok like the filters from Mini 1 will fit the Mini 3.
Useful video. Thanks. Correct me if I'm wrong. You really need to buy the Fly more kit if you want to fly cos the package doesn't include a battery charger? Also, is there an option to buy the charger and extra batteries without buying the kit? To me this package that doesn't come with a charger sounds a bit tricky. Not sure if I want to upgrade to 3 from 2.
I don't have the mini2 but have the Nano+ but the mini3 still looks enticing. What are your thoughts?
Doesn't the mini 3 pro have all the Litchi/other 3rd party app features built in? So you're not missing out on anything with the 3 not being supported by 3rd party apps...
Ignacio, my Mini 2 does all I need, but I would like to upgrade to the DJI RC controller. Have you heard anything about DJI making the Mini 2 compatible with the DJI RC? I am hopeful that they have plans for it. Gene
I bought the Mini 3 Pro. I upgraded from the original Mavic Mini. If I sell the original, is there anything I should do to protect myself? As in is anything stored on the drone that could be used to attack me or my identity?
Great video, will the mini 2 battery be compatible with the 3
I have an iPhone 13 pro max, should I get the Rc-display controller or just the standard rc-n1? Is the brightness in daylight good on the new controller?
As DJI MINI 3 is also a small drone with less than 250gm, will this be having the having the same restrictions like altitude limitations ??
I am upgrading from my old Air 1. Upgrading as the footage on air one is to grainy for sunrises. I sell stockfootage and early morning footage is unsellable. I would got the air 2s but for me its way to big i often hiking days at a time and need keep my camera gear weight down,
would love to upgrade, but the price point is just to mutch for how mutch I use it.
Do you have to have a license and register the mini pro 3? In the USA
I'm still waiting for my dji mini 3 pro I have free order thank you for the blog I learn more and really excited I can not wait 😂
I HAVE THE MINI 2 NOW THINKING IF I WANT TO UPGRADE TO THE MINI 3 PRO OR THE GET A BIGGER DRONE THE AIR 2S WILL BE KEEPING THE MINI 2 WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHT ON MINI 3 PRO OR AIR 2S
Thank you for the great comparison.
When you were talking about Occusync w 2 and 3. Are you saying that if you use the Mini 2 controller with the Mini 3 Pro craft are you limited to Occusync 2? The reason I ask is that I thought that the Mini 3 pro uses and is selling with the same controller as the one for the Mini 2?
Thanks.
Thinking about it..will my smart controller that I use on both my Mavic Zoom and Mini 2 work with this new platform?
Always great videos. Thanks for sharing!
I have bought mini 2 fmc few months ago on the 2year loan there is no chance I'm getting this one now, and for my small once a year travel few mi from home on vacation, it more then enough. Mini 3 Pro is the best mini drone out there.
I have a DJI Mini 2, What program would you recommend to make video, thank you in advance
