Kate Wolf was an incredible female folk vocalist and instrumentalist and also a composer. Once in a lifetime, it is a privilege to witness and listen to such talent, and it is a great loss to all of us that she is no longer with us. But, when she was with us, she gave us her beauty in her heart through her infinitely wonderful art.
when I returned to CA from Nova Scotia I discovered Kate's music and feel in love... soft, sweet, honest.. tender.. like I was then. I got to meet her thru a friend and found we were both Native American, me with my blue eyes...still sing her songs and cry for the loss of her earthly body... she was my sister in so many ways and I know we will meet again and sing again in another time and place... greatest of all women who sing or sang.. the greatest heart and lyrics that pierced me to the depths of my reality. gayle
I understand, Ms. Gayle. Kate Wolf was my favorite ever. I LOVE her and her music. In the early 80's I waited breathlessly for her record company to send me every new order. I know you will meet her again, no question about that. I feel the way you do about it, right from the first song of hers I ever heard on a late night folk show on the radio. I introduced her to my wife- who is Native American- early on, and she loves Kate Wolf, too. But not like you and me! God bless.
A simple masterpiece, to say it is romantic would be an understatement. The sincerity is so pure and obvious in the song. These days we don't hear too many songs which express a woman's love for a man, real or imagined. There was never a hint of feminism in her music, just old fashioned love songs, real or imagined. Real or imagined.
Purple-colored daffodils settin' off your hair, Blushin' roses in your cheeks know I'll soon be there. Smiles that thaw the winter snow, bringin' on the spring, Sparklin' eyes that dance above ruby lips that sing. There's no flower anywhere that has yet been found To compare with such as you; there is none around. Tulips blossom; roses bloom; lilies* pokin' through, None bear the beauty of love I have for you. Tulips blossom; roses bloom; lilies* pokin' through None bear the beauty of love I have for you.
Prachtig nummer gebracht door Kate Wolf, ze heeft vele van die nummers uitgebracht in haar korte carrière. Kate overleed in december 1984 op 44 jarige leeftijd, ten gevolge van leukemie.
After seeing her records for so many years where I worked I find it strange that I never listed to her music. Especailly as she was in the folk/country category. Now I find her so many years later, she has become one of my all time favorite artists! typical of me though.
I found Kate’s music a few months ago and am hooked. I keep thinking the latest find is my favorite....and now it’s You! Stunning, haunting, ethereal singing and gorgeous lyrics.
La tua canzone Kate in questa mattina umida,ha piovuto stanotte, è un piccolo raggio di sole che 'apre"al nuovo giorno con un umile serenità. Grazie"dormi"serena su un cuscino di nubi... ciao
I agree 100 % with your wonderful thoughts and words about Kate Wolf. I only wish I had got to see her in concert before she passed - but just glad that we at least have all these great videos of Kate here on UA-cam. I sometimes wonder if now (with medical advancements since she passed) if she would have been able to have lived longer. We miss her.....so very much!
In a lyric search I learned that this song may have been written mostly by Lionel Kilberg (the object of the song is a woman, for one thing). It's on Kilberg's Vol 6 release, "We Walked By the Water." It was a collaboration between the two plus Don Coffin. Haven't heard the rest of it but am curious about it. Kilberg here is really into flowers. This predates Kate's songs on Another Sundown Publishers. Regardless, I love the melody and also the sentiment.
The song lyrics were written by Lionel Kilberg & Kate wrote the melody and it was originally released on Kilberg's LP album as noted above in 1973. Gadfly acquired the album from Kilberg in the 90's, rereleased it and changed the title of the album to Breezes. Kate had already been writing songs using her Another Sundown Publishing Co (BMI) at the time of this recording in 1973, performed them mostly around Sonoma County, CA and then released her first album in 1976 Back Roads
