Sometimes projectiles with ap cores, or "I" materials will start to wobble at higher speeds , even the good old U.S. black tip can only go so fast and is only designed to go 2800 fps , it can wobble out at 3200 fps . Could have been a hot load .

@@bwolfe9040 "We" may know what they mean, but there is still an important distinction to be made because words have actual definitions. The moment you start letting words mean whatever the hell you want, you end up with people saying that "a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman." Can you imagine what would happen to our society if between 25-50% of people couldn't define the word "woman" without a circular definition? Oh wait.....

If you have any spare time you might want to try 300 win mag with the old silver tip API, pretty impressive ,and the Israeli AP is very good at superfast speeds as the core is seated up front in solid copper . I have punched holes in 3/4 " armor plate. (A nice piece of battle ship hull ) thanks for the show.

Btw, I like the way how sandbags are getting messed up (torn or punctured) behind the plates, especially when bullet does not go all the way through the plate. It gives a nice overview and more understanding on how projectile’s energy is being transferred to the body behind armor.

I always thought that the 1928 Thompson was the drum magazine one famous,or infamous, for the gangster era and there's also a photo of Sir Winston Churchill with one. There was a WW2 one, I think the model 1941,with stick magazines as I believe that the drums where too heavy and unreliable for wartime use. There was a 1921 too which had a stick mag, presumably designed in 1921.I think various other one's too and the 1919 might have been the first?

    • @redmist6131

Most could use both stick and drum mags and yes the drums where to heavy and had feeding problem hence why the military used stick mags lighter and more reliable

I think that there is a great application for the various levels of armor quality. Obviously, someone who needs to rely on armor consistently and frequently (such as military personnel who engage in combat and police officers who are much more likely to encounter a gunfight than normies like myself) should be far more concerned with the longevity and overall performance with multiple impacts as well as the comfortability/versatility/mobility of the armor they use. And, because I'm a "capitalist pig," I believe that people who WANT this level of performance but don't necessarily NEED it should have access to it. But for rando civilians like myself who want level IV performance for a level IA price, these alternatives can be totally adequate.
Personally, I grabbed a couple different "level IV" (not NIJ certified but supposedly perform similarly) plates to see how they held up. I ended up settling on a set of LA Police gear "Level IV" plates in a budget carrier. These plates are made of a polyethylene/alumina recipe and EASILY withstood multiple rounds of 308 AP from an 18" rifle at about 15-20 yards. I didn't have access to any 30-06 AP (like they're supposedly rated) but the 308 AP was VERY impressive considering the steel the managed to penetrate. In total, I have a relatively comfortable, quick detach plate carrier with single contour panels and a MOLLE quad mag carrier that weighs about 25-30 lbs loaded for about $280.
I won't tell you that you should get anything I've bought because you need to prioritize your gear for yourself. What I will say is that, for someone like myself who has this for a SHTF budget setup that I've personally tested, it makes me happy. If I had more money, I would absolutely consider getting something a little better. But I'm not relying on this armor everyday. It's just an insurance policy that I can either throw on as needed or throw onto my wife/son if we need to dip out in a hurry. Personally, I think people should get whatever they want but should definitely test stuff out before they begin to trust that it will do what it is supposed to.

From my understanding exposed tip penetrators accel at ceramic armor penetration.

@@BuffRANGE Oh so you’re saying a round like m855A1 but with tungsten instead of steel will defeat level 4?

@@user-oy9zy4ds9m essentially without seeing US Mil testing yes. XM1158 is a tungsten whiz bang round in 7.62 NATO and it’s a clone of M80a1. It supposedly beats M993 out of the water. It does use new tungsten processing tech which may help it. The 6.8 AP rounds are again supposedly designed around that.

@@BuffRANGE I doubt XM1158 can beat M993 under the same velocity. It might match the m993 due to new processing technology but I don't think it will beat it because XM1158 only has a tungsten tip whereas the M993 has its entire core being tungsten.
